This is a YouTube instructional fitness video titled "Learn how to instantly improve mobility, strength and balance!" (published 2021-11-12). It features Bill from Beyond Fitness Online demonstrating an exercise with a participant named Jake to improve shoulder extension, posture, balance and strength. Bill gives a brief neuroanatomy explanation (corticopontocerebellar tract, pons, cerebellum, vestibular system), demonstrates a perturbation-based shoulder-press drill to activate midline stabilization and improve range, and closes with typical YouTube calls-to-action and a link to his website.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online. Today I'm going to show you an exercise that's really great for helping you get into better extension or opening up your body, and it's also going to help to improve your balance. Now, why is this important? Because what happens is you have the tract in your brain called the corticopontocerebellar tract. So basically that's just a Think of it like a wire from your cortex, your outside of your brain, through your pons, which is part of your brainstem. And that part of your brainstem helps to facilitate extension. It works closely with the cerebellum, which is the last part, the cerebellar tract. And together, those 2 help create coordination and balance within your body. So if you have any kind of vestibular issues, the vestibular system's involved in this. If you are tight or always flexed or hunched over, This will also help. So this is important because it's going to improve your posture, it's going to improve your strength, it's going to improve your balance, and if you're in any kind of pain like lower back pain, it may even help to reduce that. So I'm going to show you that exercise right here. So I'm here with Jake and we want to improve his extension. And just as an example, I'm going to have him use his right shoulder to see how far back he can extend. You can see he gets about that angle right there. So let's just call that a certain amount of degrees. You're going to take this, go ahead and let this relax. Now he's going to do a shoulder press. When you're doing your shoulder press, I want you to aim for a spot directly above you, and I'm going to add some disruption to that movement. You've got to try and correct to get to that point. Okay, here we go. So as he's doing his shoulder press, I'm just adding some disruption to the arm. I could also do it to his body. And force his midline stabilization to activate a little more, and really make it hard on him to get to that point. Okay, and then have him test that shoulder extension again, and we see quite a bit of an improvement. He's all the way to parallel to the floor now. I hope you found that interesting.
