Learn to move better through your exercise

Bill from Beyond Fitness Online shows how to level up lunges by adding head movements and resistance bands. Start with lunges in different directions, then add a band for tension, then turn your head while lunging to challenge your balance and vestibular system.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online, and today I'm going to show you how to incorporate more vestibular exercise and visual exercise into your traditional exercises. What I'm going to show you today is a lunge exercise, but it's also more for balance and core strength. So when we talk about lunges, there's a lot of different ways you can move. You can go forward, you can go laterally, you can go diagonally as well. You can also go backwards, diagonally, and straight back. So you want to incorporate all those different movements and start to work on where you're shifting your weight because that will incorp— that will turn into what part of the core you're using. Now, start with that and you're just going to do here, shift your weight to the front leg, come back. After you've done a few of those, try the angle, about 45 degrees. Then you can try laterally, still keeping this leg straight the whole time. Then you can start to play with backwards. Again, still keeping this leg straight, bending this knee a little bit. You can do that at an angle as well. Once you've got those down, you can get your band and you can start to add some tension. Get a little bit of tension on that band. And now try the same thing. Straight, angled, sideways, and so on. Once you've done that and you figure out which ones work best for you, then you can add one more layer to this. We're going to move the head into different positions. So we're still in good posture, but now I'm going to take my head and I'm going to turn it that way while I lunge forward. And again, you can still take the same directions That you were already doing. So now you've got a lot of different types of lunges you can do. You can also take this band and make it more challenging by pushing the band further out in front of you. So where the band is in relation to your body matters. When it comes to head position, we can turn left and right, so we could do the same thing this way, right? We could also turn the head Up and start to get that. Now that one will be challenging, more challenging for more people. Okay, so here. All right, you can also tilt the head and start doing it this way. Now some people may have trouble with that one as well. If you find that you're having trouble with your head in any of these particular positions, then you'll want to go back and check out some of the VOR stuff and do the VORs in that position, and that video is right here. I hope you found this helpful. If you have any questions, go ahead and comment below. And if you haven't already, please subscribe. I update— new updates out every— here on this channel every Friday.
