Pain relief using neurology

Bill from Beyond Fitness Online shows how to reduce joint pain by activating the opposite joint on the opposite side of your body. If your right ankle hurts, flex your arm while stepping. He used this to manage torn cartilage in his ankle until surgery.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online. Today I want to show you a little trick to help you get out of pain. Now a lot of the people I work with will have some sort of injury or pain, and oftentimes that is related to an injury, or it could just be some kind of pain that seems to have come on out of nowhere. So if that is the case, here's what we want to do. We want to figure out what joint it is that hurts and in what movement it is that is causing that pain. So for example, if you have elbow pain and it hurts every time you extend your arm out in front of you, that's what we want to take note of is as we're extending. Now the trick is we are going to do the opposite movement with what we call the opposite joint on the opposite side of the body. So take this for note. You've got the fingers, that's going to match your toes. You've got the wrist, that matches your ankle. Elbow matches knee, shoulder matches hips, and then we can get right into like neck matches the tailbone and so on and work our way right up the spine. So pick what joint is bothering you most, go to the opposite joint, and if it's not on the spine, we're going to go to the opposite side of the body. So if it's your left elbow, we're going to do the right knee. So in our example, we're talking about extending the elbow. On the left side is irritating. So we are going to go into the right knee and we are going to flex that knee. Then when we're holding that flexion in that knee, we are going to try to move that elbow again and see if that pain feels any more or less intense. And it should have a change at some level. It might be minor, and in some cases it will make the pain go away completely. And as a personal story, I had torn cartilage in my right ankle in 2017, and I had surgery. My— now, the pain was so bad I could not walk without a severe limp. And I tried so many different things to eliminate the pain. And what I found was when I was stepping off of that foot, that's when the pain was the worst. So I would go into this movement here with my arm over my head, my wrist all cocked like this. It was the opposite of what my right foot was doing when it hurt, and the pain would completely go away as long as I was doing that. So I could use that as a trick to get through my day, and ultimately the, the tissue damage was too bad and I had to have that repaired, but it was a fantastic tool to help alleviate the pain for at least a little bit of time. So give this a try. If you have questions, let me know below. I can help you describe or explain what movement it is that you need to do if you're not able to figure this out for yourself.
