Stress Reduction - Reduce stress with this eye trick

Bill Daniels demonstrates a gentle eye-press technique combined with breathing to trigger the oculocardiac reflex, which he says lowers blood pressure and stress. Place three fingers lightly on each closed eye, count to ten while breathing slowly. He claims blood pressure drops in 9 out of 10 attempts.

What if I told you, you can reduce your stress by doing eye exercises? Hi, I'm Bill, owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, and today I want to talk to you about how to reduce your stress using some eye exercises. So what's really cool about the brain and understanding how stress works is there's so many different ways to attack that and actually reduce your stress. One of the cool things about the brain is if you understand the anatomy at all, you've got your brainstem, and then on top of the brainstem you've got what's called the midbrain. If you want to know more about the brain, check out this video right here. But basically in the midbrain lives a couple of your superior colliculi, your inferior colliculi, a couple other pieces, but the cranial nerves 3 and 4 actually insert right into that area. Now, what's really neat about that is when you stimulate cranial nerves 3 and 4 in certain ways, you can actually have a reduction in your stress. So today what I want to show you is a super, super simple relaxation exercise, and it'll reduce your stress. Okay? It's kind of weird, and if you're a little bit freaked out by eyes, Then I want you to go really, really slow with this. But let me preface this with, it's going to be very, very light and easy. Okay? So you're going to take your 3 fingers and you're going to make this tiny little cup right here like this. You're going to close your eye and I want you to be able to relax. Now, if this makes you anxious, this isn't going to work. So you just need to relax. You're going to do this to yourself. With this little hole in between your 3 fingers, you're going to put that right on your eyeball. And you're just going to lightly press. Now the caveat with that is you have to be doing some relaxation breathing.
Do the breathing, do the breathing, do the breathing. Count to 10, mate. That's right, come on.
Hold it. If you want to know more about breathing, you can check out this video right here. So when you can get that breathing with pressure on the eyes, you can do both eyes at the same time, it will actually reduce your blood pressure and your stress response. It's called your cardio— it's your oculocardio reflex. You can Google that if you want to. But if you really want to check it out, you can actually take your blood pressure, do it, and take your blood pressure again, and you'll find that 9 times out of 10, your blood pressure is down, which means your stress is down. I've got plenty more tricks And those are coming in future videos. But if you have any other questions in the meantime, please comment below. And until then, live healthy.
