In this instructional video, Bill Daniels, owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, explains how proper nutrition can maximize the benefits of High‑Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). He outlines three practical nutrition tips: (1) maintain a balanced, whole‑food diet with adequate calories, water, lean protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables; (2) time pre‑workout meals strategically—a full meal 3‑4 hours before exercise rich in protein and carbs, followed by a high‑carb snack about an hour before the session; and (3) consume a post‑workout meal with an approximate 3:1 carbohydrate‑to‑protein ratio to replenish glycogen and support muscle repair, optionally using smoothies or protein powder. Bill emphasizes the physiological reasons behind each recommendation and encourages viewers to apply the advice, ask questions, and subscribe for more content.

If you wanna get more out of your HIIT workouts, then you need to add in proper nutrition, and I'm gonna tell you how. Hi, I'm Bill, owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, where we go outside the box to come up with new ways for you to eliminate pain, lose weight, so that you can live the active lifestyle that you deserve. Now, one of the most popular things going around right now is HIIT workouts. If you're not familiar with that, that stands for High Intensity Interval Training. So it's these really intense short burst exercises. Now, I assume that a lot of people watching this video have done or at least heard of these workouts. Well, what's really important to understand is these workouts can be very beneficial for you, but to get more out of it, you need to eat the right way to get the best workouts and get the best recovery. So my 3 tips today are all related around the nutrition that will help you get the most out of your HIIT workouts. Tip number 1, it's really simple. You wanna make sure you're eating a healthy diet. This means you wanna include whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean protein. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and that the amount of food that you're eating is good. You wanna make sure you're getting the appropriate amount of calories and the nutrients from the food in order to sustain your energy levels. Tip number 2 is to make sure that your pre-workout meal is timed appropriately and you have the right stuff in there. So what this means is you're gonna wanna be eating a full meal probably 3 to 4 hours before your workout. This will be a full meal and it should include plenty of lean protein, as well as a moderate to high carbohydrate content. You wanna make sure you're including those same foods that we talked about in the first tip with your whole grains, your fruits, and your vegetables as well. Now, after you have had that first meal, you're getting closer to your workout time. Sometime around 1 hour prior to your workout, that would be a great time for a snack. And again, with your snack, it should include more carbohydrates. It should be a higher carb meal, more fruits, more vegetables. This is gonna give you the energy from the glucose that your body craves for these high-intensity workouts. So if you wanna sustain your energy throughout these workouts, it's important to get that snack within an hour of working out and make sure that you're getting good, high-quality carbohydrates. Tip number 3 is your post-workout meal. Now, when we work out, especially with a high-intensity workout, we break the body down. It's after the workout when we go into recovery that our body actually gets stronger. So it's really important to give our body the nutrients it needs to start the healing process. So your post-workout meal should be about a 3:1 Carbohydrate to protein ratio. Again, we're eating healthier carbs, healthy lean proteins, but you wanna have about 3 times more carbohydrates than protein. This is gonna restore the glucose and the glycogen that you just used up in your workout and allow your body to get back to the things that it needs to do using that energy. In addition to that, the protein helps to restore the muscle and repair the muscle tissue that you have broken down during your workout. So it's really, really important to make sure that you're getting that lean protein in there. It's also okay to make a smoothie or use a protein powder in that case as well. So these are my 3 favorite tips for HIIT workouts. They do wonders for me. I don't always do HIIT workouts, but when I do, I notice the difference if I'm not eating just this way.
