Ryan developed back pain after a car accident in his twenties where he hit his head but never got checked for concussion. A head injury can damage the vestibular and visual systems that control balance, potentially explaining his back pain years later.
Now what happened with Ryan was as we dug into his history, we found that he was in a really bad car accident in his early 20s. And this wasn't too long before the back pain had begun. Now in this car accident, he said he got bumped in the head, but he didn't ever really get examined for a concussion or anything like that. So we're not sure if he had a concussion, but he did have a sustained injury to the head, however minor that it was. So that led me to think, okay, well, if it happened in the head, the vestibular system's right there, the visual system's right there, what's going on?
