Helping Trey Cover His Butt | Nerd Vigilante

Sam shows Trey how to use iOS Siri Shortcuts to record audio on ServiceTitan without triggering the camera. It's a quick workaround for technicians who need to document their work without the extra step of video.
This guy's gonna make me get dressed. What's going on? Trey Anison, specifically. So Trey here has an issue. I'll put his post up from the service Titan Mastermind group up on the screen here says how tough would it be to add an upload audio to the camera icon for each job? We present multiple options at every call, confirm it with the homeowner, have them sign the estimate, perform the work, sign the invoice, pay the charge, etc, etc, and still, still we have people call a week later wondering what got done and what they paid for. Our technicians are very thorough. They take all the time necessary to explain this. Our average service call is about an hour and a half. I just feel like it's going to be a never ending battle without some verbal commitment for us to fall back on. After the agreement, I would like our technicians to have the capability to say.
My name is john, technician number 555. I am here with Mr. Smith and he has confirmed that we are doing this, this and this. And the client has deferred repairs of this, this and this.
Trying to stay away from the video function for this if at all possible. I'm sure there are many other benefits as well, but I'm just curious.
Thanks.
So basically, Trey wants to upload audio only to Servicetitan. And if you're thinking, well, just point the camera down at the ground or put the camera down on a table. So it's just black. People have suggested that he'd really rather not have the camera activated at all. So first of all, Trey, have you ever heard people throw around the phrase right tech, right job? Because I noticed at the bottom of your post here, you tagged Chris Hunter and Tom Howard. My guy, my guy. You need somebody to do technical acrobatics here and you tagged Tom Howard. No, no, no, this looks like a job for me. Now look, despite the way you've insulted me, I'm gonna choose to take the high road and help you out anyways. Honestly, Trey, I'm not sure any of this is necessary at all. I think you just need to tell some people to kick rocks. But you know, I'm not here any of that. I'm just here to make it happen. So let's make it happen. Now, I asked you if you were using iOS devices. That's important because the solution that I have for you is using something called Siri Shortcuts. So if you're on the latest iOS version, then Siri Shortcut should already be on your phone. I've already built it out here, this is called Tray's Shortcut. I'm going to show you what it does, but you're not actually going to have to build it anyways. I'm just going to send you a link where you can download it. Now, Siri, Shortcuts is like Apple's built in automation platform for iOS devices. So this one right here, it's a pretty simple shortcut. It's only three steps. Step one is record audio. Step two is we're encoding that recorded audio and we're making it technically a video, but it's just going to show like a blank QuickTime icon with the audio going. And then step three is saving that encoded media to the recents folder of your photos. So that way the camera is never activated and you are able to upload that file to Service Titan. You can also choose a glyph or a little icon for this. Let's see. Martini glass pills. That's no good. Is there like a microphone? There we go.
Microphone.
All right, now I'm going to press this button here that says add to home screen. I could rename it here if I wanted to. I'm going to hit add. Okay, now there it is right there at the bottom of my home screen. So here's what this looks like. Now I tap it says tap to start recording. Trey, don't tag Tom Howard, what are you doing? Okay, and now if I go to my photos, you'll see a bunch of cat pictures and Trey, don't tag Tom Howard, what are you doing? Eh. Eh. Upload that to service site and good to go. Link in the description to download the shortcut. Talk to you guys. Next one. Hey, if you're still watching this video, appreciate it if you could check out the video that I posted yesterday on how to use chat templates. It's a pretty good video. I feel like, you know, not nobody watched it, but I think it should have done a little bit better. So check that one out if you haven't seen it. Catch you guys in the next one. Appreciate it. Peace.
Sam.
