Searching For A Mouse (Plus A Tip For iPad Users!) | Release Notes Scavenger Hunt

Richard Cooper hunts for actual mice at pet stores to create a thumbnail for a Service Titan release notes video. He also shows how to connect a Bluetooth mouse to an iPad to make it work more like a laptop.
What's going on everybody? It's Richard Cooper here, the blue collar nerd. Now if you didn't catch the last video, let me give you a quick synopsis of what's gonna happen here. Service Titan release notes have internal names and in this series I go out and I find whatever the release is named after and take a picture with it to use as the thumbnail for my eventual release notes video. So this month the release notes are named Mouse. So that shouldn't be too difficult. I'm just gonna go to the pet store and take take a picture in front of the mice, but stick around afterwards because I've got a tip for you guys that also involves mouse that I think is going to be pretty helpful, especially if you use an iPad. Alright, let's go find a pet store. So, fun fact about me, I am super self conscious about filming in public. Just it makes me anxious. I feel like it draws a lot of attention and I especially don't like to do it in a store. There's employees all over the place. Cameras tend to weird people out. They think I'm in there like doing some sort of sting operation or. And so it's a lot more likely that my absolute worst nightmare happens, which is that somebody politely asked me to stop filming. You might not think that's a big deal, but for me, that's the stuff nightmares are made of, man. Alright, so here is what our current situation looks like. I think I'm gonna lose the microphone to make this a little less conspicuous. Yeah, it's a little better. It's a little less noticeable, right? Oh, now that place right there, they had fish and they had birds and they had hamsters, but you know what? They didn't have any mice. Everywhere else around me is closed already. So I'm gonna have to try again tomorrow. Abraca tomorrow. Whoa. Wow. It's tomorrow. It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life for me. Alright, this time we are at a petco bigger chain. I trust that they will have some mice in here. I hope. I really thought this was gonna be easy, but am I crazy to pet stores not have mice? Hey camera, stay still. Oh, got a little rocking going on here. Sorry about that. Anyways, let's go see what we can see. Hey, we did it. We found a mouse. So now that I have visited with some mice, let me try and justify why Service Titan has chosen to name this release Mouse. Hmm. Huh? Mouse. Mouse. Uh, because if you give this release a cookie, uh, It'll move in with you. No. Something about Disney. Disney, maybe. I mean, surely these names aren't just completely random and arbitrary. But I don't get it. I don't see anything about a mouse. This release gives you more precise control, but a mouse doesn't give you more precise control. What does a mouse have to. Unless I got the wrong kind of mouse. That's it. Alright, new direction. This release is named after a computer mouse. And so let me give you guys a quick tip involving a computer mouse. So if you've seen the newest smart keyboard that Apple has come out with for iPad pros, then you know that that keyboard now has a trackpad, meaning that there's a cursor inside of iPadOS. But you actually don't need that new trackpad, keyboard or even an iPad pro to use that new cursor. All you need is an iPad that's recent enough to run the latest software and a Bluetooth MOUs. So let me show you how this works. So first on our iPad, we're going to go to Settings and then Bluetooth. Then we need to put our Bluetooth mouse in pairing mode. Now, this mouse here, this happens to be the MX Master 2S made by Logitech. There's actually a newer version of this mouse now, but the MX Master series is an excellent mouse. I'll put a link in the description below if you want to pick one up. Now, a cool feature of this mouse is that it can actually connect to three separate devices and then I can switch between those devices with this button right here at the bottom. So if I'm connected to my PC, I can press that button to switch over to my laptop and then press the button again to SW over to my iPad. So right now I'm going to push that button to get it to the number three position because that's currently not assigned to anything. And that's going to put it in pairing mode. Now, I see it pop up under other devices here on my Bluetooth menu on my iPad. Then I'll get this little pop up here, asking if I'm sure I want to pair it. I'll hit pair. And now if I move the mouse, I get this little cursor. Now, while this is a cursor and you can do things like right click, I actually find it's better to think of this as your finger because for all intents and purposes, it works exactly the same way as your finger would work if you were just touching the iPad. You'll notice when you hover over an icon, it actually locks onto the icon and the cursor itself goes away. Now, if you also have a keyboard connected, it's going to be really helpful to learn a few keyboard shortcuts because that's going to prevent you from ever having to reach up and touch the screen. This feature, along with knowing some keyboard shortcuts, really makes the iPad more of a viable laptop replacement than it ever was before. Some of the most common keyboard shortcuts are Command H, which takes you back to the home screen, and Command tab, which brings up a menu of all your most recent apps and you can keep pressing tab to cycle through them. Now, some apps have their own keyboard shortcuts that only apply when you have that app open. But wherever you are, if you just hold down the command key for a few seconds, you will get this little menu that shows you what all of the current available keyboard shortcuts are in that moment. Anyways, that's all I got for today. I hope I was able to entertain you, teach you something or idea daily. Bolf Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for my next Release Notes video. It'll be the one with the picture of me and the mouse and I'll catch you guys in the next one. Appreciate it. Peace.
