Business owners in skilled trades need a cybersecurity plan. Start by listing all your software, rank what's critical, back up essential systems like phones, and hire a firm like Vigilance Act to guide you through it. Something is better than nothing.
Tell me, and especially for our listeners who are business owners, owner operators, very skilled in the trades, learning business every day. They are not cybersecurity experts. What should they be aware of?
What I always say is go top to bottom looking at all your software products that you have, just go through them and start to tier those into what is so critical. If we didn't have this, we can't operate like the phone system. If you don't have a backup phone system, we all know in this industry, game over, right? You're not getting calls in. So having a backup plan for that, there's just some business continuity disaster recovery there. But when it comes to cybersecurity, to reach out to these companies like a Vigilance act, to get advisory and they're going to give you the right, like step by step, what's your budget? Here's where you need to start. If you only have this much, here's the most critical thing. There's a lot of ways to do it and tackle it, but the one thing you can't do is like not do it.
