Blair Singer identifies seven elements that make teams flourish: becoming who you want to be, belonging, trust, loving your work, playing to your strengths, making a meaningful difference, and leaders asking "How can I help you?" He argues that meaning drives performance and warns against misaligning people with their strengths.

Got to give them meaning. Remember, if people find meaning in what they're doing and they feel it's beneficial and they'll become the best they can be, they will flourish. Okay, so we covered a couple things. Number one, can they become who they want to become? Number one? Number two, are they on a team? Number three, can they trust that team? Is there safety on that team? Number four, are they doing something that they love? Number five, is. Is this. Are they playing to their strength? Is this something that they're willing to develop, something they want to study, something they want to get better at? If you've got a person out there selling that doesn't like people, that's not a very bright thing to do. You don't want to put people in the wrong seat on the bus. We know that. Number six, are they. Do they feel like they're able to make a difference being with you on this team, to society, to their teammates, to themselves, make a difference in the world, in their life? Do they have a sense of that, or are you encouraging it? And number seven, is this. Are you asking them questions? Questions along the lines of these things? Number one, how can I help you? How's it going? Do you feel good about what you're doing? How can I help you? These questions show that you care. It's a walking demonstration that this meaning stuff is not just talk. It's the real deal. Because you want to take care of them. You do these things, you will surpass any other team that's not doing them. Make sure you take care of that team. Be amazing.
