DO MEN HAVE FUN? | WALK AND TALK #8 | WHOLE MAN ACADEMY
October 20, 2022
At the end of November (year not specified in transcript)
Okay, so for today's walk and talk, we are going to talk about connection. Doesn't sound very exciting, but let me explain, it's really interesting. One of the events I did, I mean, we've had this several times, but one of the events I did where I went in to speak to a company and talk to the men in their organization. And we started off by doing something highly technical by basically saying, like, tell us your name and not what do you do, but what do you do for fun? So we went kind of around the room and it also kind of lightens the atmosphere because what you'll find is that often, you know, if you bring a group of guys together, especially if the company has kind of requested it, the men might be sitting there with their arms folded, being like, go on then, entertain me. And you're like, I'm not here to entertain you. I'm here to give you thought provoking content and maybe even help you do life better. But yeah, what we did was we said, okay, what do you do for fun? So we went around the room and it was really interesting to hear some of the guys bring up, you know, things that they do in their spare time. But here was the funny thing. One or two of the guys would say something like, actually, I really enjoy doing art or drawing or playing the piano. And the guy next to me would be like, what? And these guys, we've been working together for maybe years, months, years, whatever it is, but wouldn't have realized, you know, because men don't really talk too much about stuff like that. What else they do for their extracurricular activities. Keep it clean. And this was one of the things we spoke about also via one of the E letters about working from home. Because what again it does is it takes away that kind of those opportunities to talk about stuff that, you know, you might, you wouldn't have a zoom call just to have a chat with someone. But maybe when you're on the train or you're grabbing a coffee or something like that, you know, those are the times that you have a bit of a chat or a lull between work. And I used to find that when I worked, you know, in the financial markets, is that to be honest, you know, I didn't. You were really busy and really focused at those times when the markets were moving, but apart from that, you basically didn't have any other work to do. It was more about cultivating your relationships with clients. And you know, for me, I would have really missed that if you were trying to work from home just sit in your bloody computer all day and missing out on all the stuff that, you know, all the little chats and the coffees and stuff and popping out here and there would have been a big kind of chunk taken out of my enjoyment of the day. And that's why when we talk about on the E letter which again, the link will be below, whether this is on LinkedIn, YouTube or have you for guys to sign up to, this is one of the big things we've, we've covered, you know, for months and months and months now is the value of connecting with guys A, for your own network and B, just for your mindset as well, to be honest, because you'll know how good it is when you connect with other guys who, you know, you can have maybe a chance to let off steam with. So if you haven't already or you know, a guy who might find interesting, feel free to hit the link and sign up for our E letter. And also we're getting very close to releasing the details of our next let's call it Event for Men or Dinner for Men, which will be coming at the end of November. So keep them peeled for that. And apart from that, I just want to show you what a beautiful view it is in the Cotswolds is say it's different to working in a city, but it's a lot more peaceful. So from that, enjoy the rest of your day day and we'll be back with another walk and talk with some food breaking content very soon. And last thing is to remember that the world needs strong men. Right, I'm out of here.
