Artists, stop waiting for galleries to make you legitimate. Quit running your work by your family for their approval and thumbs up, and go find the people that you want to buy the things you make. Consider fixing your relationship with money before you start blaming the market. Remember that the gatekeepers, the gallery owners, the market runners, whoever you're trying to get to approve you, do not make you more or less of an artist. Those systems exist to benefit them. You can benefit from their system, but the faster you build your own system, the more likely you are to have a career. Nobody's coming to save you. Give yourself the permission that you've been waiting for.
