Creating despite our biggest fears.

Lennon Bone talks to creatives about the fears that stop them from making work: uncertainty, self-doubt, the urge to skip planning. He reframes planning as preparing for battle and argues that defining what you want from your art, and why, is how you push through.

It's the unknown that gets us as creatives. Each time we make something, it's like.
Walking onto a battlefield.
We resist the work because you don't know what's on the other side. If you fail, how long before you know that it's a failure? And if you succeed, will you ever realize it? Or will you just find yourself forever chasing the point of arrival and ultimately finding that it never existed in the first place? It's this fear that is our battle.
It's this fear that we plan for.
But have to throw the plan away.
When the fight is at its peak.
I recently spent two days in a.
Rented apartment planning for my own battle this year. And my personal enemy has become the thought that all of my best creative days are behind me, that the years that I spent touring the world were really my peak, and that all my friends no longer understand what I do or why I do it. But I still move forward. I keep going because I know that I want to help you create a career that you actually care about. I want you to be able to.
Use the things that I've learned during.
My time as a touring musician, my time as a teacher, my time as a freelancer, my time of learning how to take my talents and turn them into a career. And I don't always know how to best get those points across, so they best serve you. But I keep trying and I keep learning.
And the fear persists. It took hours of me being alone and dozens of post its spread across.
The wall before I found a place.
Where my mind cleared and I realized why I'm here, why I really do this.
I do this because I want you to change the way you see your worth as a creative person. I want you to see that this is possible. I want you to see that the average are the ones who refuse to plan for battle, but instead go and lose before they've even started. I want you to see that the ones who aren't enough are simply the ones that refuse to invest in ways to find a path. They're the ones who would rather struggle in the woods than build a road through to the other side.
But here's the good news. You are not average. You are much more than that. As a matter of fact, you are enough. So ask yourself, what do you want from your art? What do you want from your creativity? And most importantly, why? Why do you want it when you.
Can answer those three questions without a.
Shadow of a doubt? Somewhere down the line, your plan will fail. But the planning will have saved you.
