Brad Schipke argues PTSD is not a disorder but a natural survival response. The brain's fight, flight, freeze, and fawn modes activate after extreme events, and this reaction is universal and evolutionary, not a character flaw. Full recovery is possible.

Is PTSD just a normal response to abnormal events? In a way, yes. PTSD is a normal survival system responding to something completely abnormal. When you experience a trauma, your brain goes into protection mode: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. And that's normal because we've seen it across the entire human race, across the entire world. It is not a new phenomenon, and it's not based on someone's personality or anything else. It's completely natural to have PTSD. So PTSD isn't a weakness. It isn't a character flaw. It's just a natural response to a trauma. You're not broken beyond repair. You're not a bad person. You're not to blame for any of this. And it is 100% possible to heal from this.
