Is PTSD why I struggle so much with trust and relationships? Probably. And it makes perfect sense why. Because when trauma involved people that you depended on or loved or trusted, your brain learned that closeness equals danger. So even when someone feels safe, your body just doesn't believe it yet. You want connection, but your nervous system braces for betrayal. And that is not a commitment issue. It's just a protection mechanism that your body has learned and developed over time. And healing means teaching your body that safety in connection is possible again. And it's also learning the lessons from the past so that you have discernment to make sure that you don't put yourself in harmful situations in the future.
