Borrowing Successful Beliefs To Overcome Even The Biggest Money Blocks with Robyn Crane

This is a recorded interview (Make More Marbles podcast) where Brad Hart interviews Robyn Crane about her journey from years of struggle to building a coaching business for female service-based entrepreneurs. Key themes: mindset and health work (Tony Robbins UPW), the Femme Mentorship program (small implementation-based groups), the "belief loan" concept (borrowing a mentor/community belief to take action), a Money Type quiz (Spendthrift Sally, Cheap Chip, Delusional Dan, Over‑generous Olivia, Avoider Al), lead-generation and scaling tactics (Facebook ads, small events, email drip campaigns, funnels), and practical sales advice (ask more questions; salesperson should speak ~10–20% of the time). The episode includes concrete operational details about Robyn's business model and channels, audience-facing resources, and a community ask for health-related introductions.

Welcome to Make More Marbles. My name is Brad Hart, and we're here to interview the game changers, the future makers, the co collaborators and creators who are here to collaborate with one another towards a better future for all of us. Enjoy the show. We've got a great guest coming up for you right now. Welcome to Make More Marbles. My name is Brad Hart, and today I am thrilled because I got a twofer in the Crane family. This is Robin Crane. I just had Trevor Crane on the show just a week ago. We all just hung out at upw, so say hi to the people at home. Robin, how are you?
What's up, people at home?
I am so, so stoked to have you on the show because you also share a love of alliterations. Yours is make more money. Mine is make more marvels, which could be substituted for money or relationships or good vibes or travel or all the good things that people want to create in the world. So thank you, thank you, thank you for being on the side of the good fight. You didn't even realize you were.
I know. Hey. I'm so happy to be here. It's super fun. I'm excited. Gosh, we met a while back, and this is just awesome that it's happening.
So, yeah, I think a couple of years ago, right. We kind of chatted while we were doing something. I forget exactly. I remember distinctly. I was in Nashville, I believe, somewhere in Tennessee, maybe Chattanooga, Tennessee. And we had a call because I remember it being really muggy, and I was walking outside to, like, get out of the mugginess.
I remember when I was talking to you, it was hell.
The worst. I know. Yes.
I like to associate me and mugginess. That's what I like.
Seriously. And you got plenty of that in Jersey, that's for sure. We were just out there for upw, which is unleash the power within Tony Robbins. If you guys listening at home have never heard of it, we brought a big group, 47 people at time. How was it for you? How was your experience being a firewalker?
Oh, it was awesome. I mean, I went on to my first UPW 10 years ago, and then I've gone crewed a lot for Tony Robbins because I just think it's an awesome environment and love it. And then I went back a few years ago and did it again. So I kind of stay in there in the environment, but I like to keep doing my own thing and not just get caught up in that, as some sometimes do. Yeah.
People always ask me, why do you keep Going back, it's because I got something new every time. You know, not the same river, not the same man, each and every time. So, you know, because this is focused on you, what are some of the things that you've been working on and some of the shifts that you made.
At this upwell, at this upw. My big focus was actually my health. So I have kind of been struggling with some health challenges for a couple decades. And I know I can heal myself, but there was a part of me that still has this limiting belief because I've tried so many things that maybe I can't. And I just really decided I'm gonna make it happen. And actually his fourth day, which was the health day, he had all these new speakers, and I got very inspired by that. So it was all in line. So that was a really big thing. I mean, my business has been great, my life has been great. I mean, it's really hard to ask for more. I mean, I'm just so grateful for everything I have. So really, the only thing I feel like I just need next level stuff is my health. And then I could always use help with my emotions and not getting upset about things or frustrated, because I have the tendency to, like, you know, go from 0 to 100 and then be, like, frustrated. I know, hard to believe someone like me would get frustrated, but I do so just to keep working on that. And I like what he said about. He was talking about 90 seconds, you know, to get you back to a beautiful state. And I think that's just a great reminder because it just doesn't serve us to be in a negative state for any longer than 90 seconds.
It's 100% true. And what they're referring to, what she's referring to is the day four is the health day, right? And it's really easy to check out because for the longest time, and, you know, I'm guilty of this, Tony's had the same videos from the 1980s or early 90s where he's talked about, you know, the cell health and the veggies and the smoothies and the greens and all this good stuff, and it's all valid, but then, like, life keeps moving in a direction, right? Even Tony had mercury poisoning. I don't know if that's public, but he had an issue where he's eating so much fish and he had mercury poisoning. I think he talked about it in our podcast. So, like, you know, he's always updating his methodology, which is why he's always bringing in great new speakers. So we had guys like Dave Asprey came in and talked about how your mitochondria is sabotag. And Wim Hof comes in, who is hilarious. So much fun. And I'm sitting next to my friend Kyle, who's a Navy SEAL and done some really cool stuff himself. He's like, I went and trained because he does these Iditarod races, 350 miles in the snow, 45 degree below weather, and he does them on foot. So he's like, he went and trained with Wim Hof. He's like, he's just as nuts as he seems. Like he's really like, you can't fake that.
You can't fake that shit. Like that's who you are. He embraces it. He was hilarious. I love that.
So good. So I'm glad that you're doing that because, you know, without health, what do you have? Like, you can make all the money in the world, you know, if you don't have that balance. Health, wealth and relationships. Right? That's the three targets. If we can't. If we can't hit those consistently without taking one from another, it's really like, you might have success, but you want fulfillment, and you won't have the energy to really enjoy what you're doing. And then finally, that last little thread I want to pull on is this concept of a beautiful state. Robin, you know, we all suffer from time to time, but we don't have to live there, right? So give yourself that 90 seconds, shake it off, get back to the work of living, you know, so thank you for the reminder. That's awesome. So, all right, so now going forward in your life, you have, you know, all of these people that you're. You're helping, you're doing, speaking, you're, you know, building your business. Like, what is the current state of the business and where do you want to get it to? And what's kind of the gap that we're filling right now?
The current state of the business is awesome sauce to me. I'm really, really happy with it. There's always another level, so I'm happy to grow. But I actually launched what I call a femme mentorship. Femme stands for Female empowered money makers. So I launched that in February of 2016. So it's been about a year and a half, and we're recording this and it really took off. And I hate to say it took off, because it's not like it just happened. I mean, it's been brewing and, you know, I've been working hard for Many, many years and decades. But I finally understood who to target and what my niche is, who my niche is and really what I have to offer and how I can help these women entrepreneurs. And I met a need that really needed to be fulfilled and it's gone really, really well. So I've had about 60 women go through the program who are in the program, and it's been awesome. They're usually small groups between 12 and 14, and it's an implementation based program. So anyway, that's the main focus and everything kind of leads to the femme mentorship. So if I have Positioning Yourself for Profits event or I have this week, I actually have a quantum Leap event. Like everything's really leading to that for the committed women entrepreneurs who really want to take their business to the next level. And it's amazing. I love my clients. I love working with them. I love to see them grow. I love to see their incredible progress. I love to see them double, triple, quadruple, sometimes more their income, like, it's the best feeling ever. So. So really the gap is just more of that to a higher level where I can help even more people, and specifically women, to reach their goals and have a life they want. Cheesy, the true.
I love it. No, honestly, like, when you're dialed in, it's just a matter of more, right? You got the engine, you got the crank. You know, you just got to turn the crank more. And you can take somebody who comes to you with X, Y and Z and they're part of a certain demographic and they will respond to a certain type of messaging and then you can put them through a proven process to bring them from A to B. You're in really good shape doing that. Nice. The crap out of you. But keep that in mind because it's going to be a really important part for the end. When we get to my favorite section, which is where I put you on the spot. So a little bit of foreshadowing. All right, so let's kind of dial this in a little bit more. So for the people listening at home, they want to hear the story, I'm sure, and as I do as well. From your mouth to God's ears, like what. What is the thing that really shifted you from the life that you were living into the life that you're living today? Like the hero's journey, if you will. You know, you're the character, obviously, but what was the desire? What was the conflict? What was the transformational journey? What were you after? And what did you learn along the Way.
Yeah. So for me, I mean it always the path to getting there has to do with having the right mentor and understanding the systems and the steps. But the only way to be able to implement that even with the right mentor is having the right mindset, so. And being focused around it. So for me, I mean, I don't know if you know my background, but I actually had a year when I was in my coaching business not too long ago where I only made $500 in my coaching business. 500 buckaroo. It was amazing. But I mean I had other, some other income because I was also a financial advisor. But even Trevor didn't have a good year. So we were busting our ass just to like make ends mean. We even rented out our house on Airbnb, like just crazy. Because there was no way I was going to go more broke over it. But I really didn't do well. And that was because I got distracted. I wasn't really sure where to focus. I wasn't clear on my target market. I wasn't clear, should I do business coaching? Because I done, I done financial planning and then money coaching, which I really loved. And then I went to business coaching, but I wasn't really working with the right clients. And so I started to get over it. I had done seminars, so I kind of bounced a lot. And then I landed on really focusing on these female entrepreneurs, service based entrepreneurs. And that is what nailed it because I was like seeing the transformation that I was giving them. But I could not have done that without my coach. I could not have done that without the focus, the right mindset. And then I really needed marketing because I was really good at sales. But if you don't have people to sell to, no matter how good you are, you can't close them. So once I got the marketing in check, and that has to do with knowing your target market or you can't market worth crap. So you have to know their problems and get obsessed with those problems. And once you do that and you can get people you know, from cold leads to actual appointments, then like it's game over. It's just, it makes it a lot easier.
So that's, that's a really great point for realistic at home is that you had sales nailed, right? And sales in and of itself used to be enough to really go out there and do anything you wanted. You could join any company. Like you could sell anything. You could sell widget, you could sell a skyscraper, you could sell a jet, you could sell anything just because you understand how to Take somebody from what they desire to getting them out of their own way to make a great decision. It's the highest level of service. So you already had that dialed in. It was great. But you were struggling because you didn't have the right leads. And then you had to create an engine essentially to create those leads on demand. And, you know, for people listening at home, it's like a business needs four things. I don't care if you're the lemonade stand or Robin's business or my business or ExxonMobil. Right. It needs leads, it needs sales, it needs value delivery of some sort, whether it be a product or service. And it needs operations to tie it all together. And if you're missing any one of those four things, you have a very expensive hobby.
Exactly.
So, you know, anytime you're struggling, just zoom out. Say, okay, where? Why am I struggling? Is it lead, sales, value delivery, or operations if one's missing? If you don't have any leads, you got no customers, end of the story. You have leads with no sales, you're not making any money. You have leads, sales, but no value. Well, that's a scam, right? You're not delivering anything. And then finally, if you don't have operations, you don't know what's happening. When you don't know how to tie it all together, it's hard to reinvest back into the cycle to grow the business.
I love that. That's awesome.
Yeah, we're working on that for a while. So the key points that you kind of mentioned, working with female entrepreneurs that are service based, how did you get so specific? And what were some of the key aha moments about knowing that, okay, these are the people, this is what they're looking to build. This is where I find them. And what could we glean as an audience from that journey?
I think it was twofold. I think one for sure. I just started attracting them. So typically when I'm helping someone identify their ideal client, it's like, well, who do you love to work with? And I started to see. I mean, I was. When my first book came out, Mind Over Money Management, I had some. I actually spoke at a Power Team Tony Robbins event, which is, you know, some people who have been to Tony Robbins, that sort of thing in New York City. And there are about 50 people there. And I was kind of doing both money coaching and business coaching. And I attracted, like, the people that I attracted into my world were business owners and they were women. And I just loved working with them. So I think One is that was attracting them. But I think the second thing is that the reason I was attracting them was because I knew that woman, because I was that woman. You know, I really, I went through those problems. I went, as much as I absolutely love Tony Robbins, like I went a decade ago and still wasn't making money for years. For years I wasn't making money. And it was the mindset shifts that I needed, but it was also that I really needed implementation. And so that's why I focus so much on implementation in my group and having small groups and being accessible to them every single day on WhatsApp, because that's what was missing. So how did I identify them was partly because I knew myself and then I knew the problems that I faced and I was able to communicate that. And then of course I kept, you know, because I was attracting these women, I understood deeper and deeper their real problems and how to, you know, bypass those problems quickly without always have to having to shift their beliefs. Because the problem with women is that we tend to have these self doubts. We lack confidence and then we just stop. You know, we don't take action because we're afraid of what people think we're worried about. You know, we have to be perfect. You know, all these things holding us back that I experienced for many, many years. And of course I still experience it, you know, still comes up. But the fact that I recognize that you can actually bypass that without always having to shift your beliefs, actually I call that belief the belief loan phenomenon. But it's basically taking, instead of having to shift your beliefs, you borrow the belief from a mentor, you borrow it from other people in your community who have gotten the results just long enough to take the action or to do the behavior, which is the second step. And then that behavior leads to you getting a result which is that success which propels you forward into a new belief, a new empowering belief. So you don't have to shift the belief first. You can take the action, get the result, borrow the belief, and then your beliefs will automatically shift. Because we as women tend to be external. So we see the results and then we believe it and then all of a sudden we're confident. So that's what worked for me.
That's a brilliant idea. It's like modeling, but you take it a step further, right? It's like, oh, you see, somebody is successful, what do they believe that makes them successful? Let me just put that hat on for a minute, right? We go into the belief wardrobe, put on a hat. I'm going to try this on, get a result, see that the as possible. And now I have the evidence which creates the confidence to create the belief that you can keep going forward. Right? If you've never sold anything before, you don't believe it's possible for you when you make a sale. Well, now you have evidence to prove that. Well, that was bs, right? That was a belief system that wasn't working for me. And now you can move forward from there, right? I've never put a post up online and gotten good traction. Well, go and do a bunch of posts the next 30 days.
Borrow, right? And they're like, well, I don't believe it's gonna work. So okay, borrow my belief that I believe it's gonna work. Borrow the belief that I believe in and just do it anyway. Just borrow it long enough to take the action and then you'll get a result. And then you'll be like, okay, now I actually believe it because now it's.
Really true for you. It's not BS in the sense of what, you know, what some people might call bs. It's a new belief system that serves and empowers you. That's a beautiful, that's such a huge.
It really works especially, I mean, it will work for anyone, but especially women when they're caught up on that. Like, they think they can't take action until they shift that belief. And it's not that they're consciously thinking, oh, I need to shift my belief first. It's just that they're stuck feeling a lack of confidence, feeling the self doubt, feeling like they can't do it, they don't know how. And the other thing is, as long as you're working with a mentor who will give you the shortcuts, then the behavior is also a system. So it's like I teach something called the FCC sales system. Like they don't think they're good at sales. I don't care. I know a system, trust me. Believe me, it's worked for people who didn't know the same system, Lisa or Bri or Alison or all these women I've worked with and who got phenomenal results and I don't know, quadrupled or times 10 their income. So then they're like borrowing the belief from them and then they at least follow the system to get the results. So the system will help as well. But yeah, that, that, that was really huge for me. And that's like, like a key principle I teach, like everywhere I go is that belief loan phenomenon.
That's a brilliant Brilliant principle. I just want to acknowledge you for creating that because that's really awesome. And that's a huge way to bridge the gap. Like, it's like, you don't need to have the confidence if you understand that you have the mentorship and that you can follow people's way essentially. Right. That's what a sales script is. Right. Just say these things and then shut up.
Right. And sometimes I hand them the piece of paper and I'm like, can you read that one line? Read that one line and then shut up and then read the next line. And then there's a lot of shutting up to do in the system of sales.
Mostly shutting up. Like most people. Like, if you go back, I don't know the exact statistic was, but I think it was like 80 or 90%. If you go back to a sales call that didn't sell for whatever reason that they didn't do it and it was closable. Let's assume it was closable. You know, there's not every single person, every single time is closable. There's windows of times when people are closable that the ones that don't succeed and, you know, don't end up in a closed sale are typically because the salesperson's talking more than the prospect, but it's actually the ones that are most effective. The salesperson is talking about 10 to 20% of the time.
Yeah.
So 80% plus of the time should be filled by your prospect talking. So it's not you selling them on anything. It's creating the space so that they can get clear the diagnosis of what's going on for them. Feel the pain, open the gap, insert product or service to close the gap.
And it's. And it's a questions game. You know, it's not a telling game. It's a questions game. And that 20%, they're mostly asking questions, then, you know, golden dig, dig, dig, ask more questions. But yeah, go ahead.
The quality of your questions is what they focus on. Right. If you want to focus on a higher and better service or result. Better questions.
Yeah, absolutely.
Just having the courage to stand in the gap and allow people to feel the pain. They need to field a shift because that was a big problem I had. And I'm sure a lot of people listening have is like, we want to help people. That's why we're in the service industry. We serve entrepreneurs. We serve the people we serve because we want to help them. And we think that by alleviating their pain at key Moments we might be helping them, but no, we're actually hurting them because they're not making a forward decision.
The only solution is to work with you. If you don't have conviction around that, then that's the conviction. You borrow my belief around it. But I mean, usually I attract women who, they're phenomenal what they do. They just don't always believe in themselves, but they know they got value. And it's never about selling someone or closing someone. Like, it's about finding a fit and just discovering like, is there a match? And getting them out of their own frickin way so they can take action. Because they're not where they want to be. No matter how much they tell you life is just peachy because they wouldn't have to call with you if everything was great. So it's getting them to actually step out of their own way and move forward. But yeah, I love sales. I love sales. It's like the best because it's just. That's the only way you can truly transform their lives.
Yeah, and it's absolutely true and I appreciate that there's people out there like you that get it and you know, may your only problem ever be that you don't have enough people to sell to. Right, right. You know, like, and as we get better at selling and then it becomes, okay, how do we translate this to copy and sales funnels and how do we get more scale on this? How do we sell from stage? I just had an opportunity to sell from stage for the time last week or two weeks ago. And it was a really interesting experience. I'm going to have to learn a lot more about it, but, you know, just understanding what's possible, guys, you know, you start somewhere, you start with a conversation and you can build it to any number of things. And now Apple, you know, they're putting billboards around the world, you know, that's like the penultimate right way to sell and eventually be VR and augmented reality and whatever comes next. And they're all just tools, right? They're just tools of leverage. But if you really understand how people work, you can do anything in this world because you can influence, persuade and roll people into a possibility of a better future. And that's all it is, it's just manifesting. Right. Make a new intriguing future through enrollment, speaking and thought leadership.
Nice.
You like that one?
I like it. I got a few more up your sleeve.
I got a few more seeds. So manifest seeds and crops. Seeds is seek in every encounter to diagnose, create space, serve Support and solve. And it's got to be in that order because you got to really understand what's going on and create space for it. People need to feel seen and heard before you can serve and support and solve their problem. So that's the order. And then finally crops. And that's what I'm going to talk to you about, the end of this podcast, which again, more foreshadowing.
Now you're seeding.
Yeah, seeding crops.
Seeding about crops.
So I'm going to, I'm going to hold off on that and I'm going to into what I believe is the most important thing. And Robin, for you, like, I just had a great. I'm always hiring coaches. I'm always, I just went for a one day sales training in Austin and this trainer is relatively infamous, so I'll leave his name out of it. But one of the things he taught me yesterday is that people, you know, they fit into three categories typically and they tend to present with one of three of these things. And like they usually have one that's high and then one that's kind of medium and one that's kind of low. And it's called the PEN personality test. And the PEN is basically psychosis or psychotic, extroverted or neurotic. On a 0 to 100, how emotional do you make your decisions? That would be the difference between somebody who's completely stable and completely like psychosis and they do everything emotionally logical to emotional. How extrovert are you or how introvert are you? 0 to 100. Then finally, how neurotic are you versus how, you know, secure and feeling what you feel and based on what these people kind of present with, you can then tailor your behaviors and messaging towards them. So if somebody comes at you and they're like, you know, completely emotional, they're full of tattoos, they love driving fast cars and making crazy decisions. You know, you can, you can meet them where they're at or if they're completely neurotic and scarcity driven or fear driven, or they make decisions, takes a million years to do that, or they're always stressed out or depressed about things. You can meet them, there's. Or if they're mega extroverted, they look, they're gonna love a leader, right? They're gonna love somebody who steps in the gap and takes charges. An introvert. So I thought that was really cool and I'm digging more into it. I just literally learned about it yesterday. But it was a really fascinating thing. And he's like, in my experience, and this is again one of the people who I look up to as being one of the best in the world at influence and persuasion. He said, in my experience there's, you know, that's the key to the kingdom. It's just those three things if you know which one they're presenting most. And there's actually a name for this test. I looked it up yesterday. I'll find was a very interesting Russian name. So if people want to do their research at home, I recommend it highly. But have you heard of that one or what personality? What are some of the ones that you use in your business all the time? I'm a big fan of wealth dynamics.
Obviously, you know, well, I created something called the money type quiz. So I really use that a lot. And that I use with my clients, I use to understand people and how it really not dictates, but has a huge influence on whether they're successful or not and recognizing these patterns that they run and how to shift that. So I mean there's a lot of the standards, but I don't typically, you know, like I don't typically have people take those tests. It's just very easy for me to quickly understand them with these five money types. How they make decisions and why they're making the decisions.
What are some of the money types?
Let's hear it. Some of the money types. And it's funny because I usually use Barbie dolls to represent them. So the first one is Spenthruff Sally, represented by Barbie. So you can all picture that. But Spencer Sally loves to spend. She feels good spending money. She is more abundance driven. But also oftentimes is spending, you know, maybe at her, maybe to fill an emotional void, right? So you feel bad, you feel depressed, you go shopping and then maybe you feel guilty about that because you're like, oh, I shouldn't have done that, I don't have enough money, that sort of thing. So that's kind of Spencer Sally, very impulsive, compulsive buyer. And then in business you can look at it as, you know, some people, they'll pimp their ride, right? They'll like get a really nice website, but they're not driving traffic to it. But it's like they have this awesome website because they wanted to buy an awesome dress. It looked gorgeous. But it's like it's not actually convert. It's not helping them convert. And then cheap chip, which is my number one money type cheap chip does not like to spend money. Cheap chip is a hoarder. Cheap chip is more scarcity minded. And I say it's my money type, my top money type. I just retook the quiz again because I was curious. I hadn't taken it for a while. I know I created it, but still I wanted to make sure it still worked. And even though I run my business more as another money type, which is delusional Dan, I still have in my core, I'm a cheap chip, which is like I feel if I spend money on something and I don't find the value, I feel sick to my stomach about it. Like, even if it's a small amount, it affects me emotionally. And I. I'm fine now spending money on things I value. And I'd rather spend money on the best person. Like I'd rather hire the best person and I'll spend money all day long for my business. But if I'm not seeing the value, I'm kind of pissed, you know, Like I'm really like. And I take it to heart. But delusional Dan will. Will, you know, think anything is possible. I can do anything. And you know, very much a big thinker, huge thinker, but doesn't always follow through with stuff. And oftentimes, you know, there's the squirrel syndrome, right. Where just totally not focused, which I've gone through Squirrel. That's my second money type. And then there's over generous Olivia who tends to give, give, give and contribute, but usually at her expense, where she's over generous. Maybe you don't have much money, but you're giving away time for free in your business or you're taking people out to lunch when you're broke and just you're always like kind of stepping up to help people, but your life kind of sucks because you're always putting everybody else first and you never put yourself first, which I think ultimately really doesn't put anyone else first because if you're not living your purpose, you're hurting people. And the last one is avoider Al who avoids things like money and doesn't like to look at problems and buries his head in the sand. So they're not actually gender specific. I just show it in a fun way. But those are the money types real quick and I can give them the money type quiz.
Yeah, why don't we get a link to that for sure?
Yeah, let me give it in a sec. I just want to test it, make sure I have the right link. But you can go to the next question.
I just want to make sure. And then I also did the Isonic is the name of that pen personality test. The Eyen eysen C K I N Sync Eyesync personality Test. E Y S E N C K if you Google that, there's a Wikipedia article that tell you all about it. Take the test as well. Right on.
Okay, you can go here. I just want to double check that it worked. So you can go to robin crane.com r o b y n c r-a n e.com money type quiz. You can take the quiz and it should spit out your answers. And then there's a little video that tells you how you know how it could be holding you back. I mean I even give an example of how you know, the successful people actually, you know, you step into the other money types and doesn't always hold you back because you can use it to your advantage. Like Oprah is an over generous Olivia. I mean she has that tendency. But then she didn't. She wasn't over generous. She actually got successful. But then she was able to give $41 million. And Tony Robbins, probably a delusional Dan, like he went from $38,000 a year to over a million. Like 1.1 or 1.2 million in a year. That's pretty delusional to think you can do that. But because he followed through and took action, it works. So you can use these to your advantage. It's really about understanding how these money types could be holding you back and then stepping into the other money types as well as really to benefit you and teach you how to have a bigger impact.
So it's understanding what all the different types are so that you can step in. They're appropriate in different times. So for generous Olivia and you're always taking people out to lunch, maybe you need to step more into a cheap chip role for a time to kind of. Even though that's painful just to be able to grow through that.
Exactly. Like I was a cheap chip and I had to step into over generous Olivia, you know, because I was like, okay, if I'm not spending it on myself and I take someone out. Like I got really generous but I had to like consciously do that. So I wasn't on scarcity and I had to step into even a spendthrift Sally and a delusional Dan more often. So I would invest in my business and take risks because I was scared at first and making $2,000 a month. But I told you I made $500 that one year in my coaching business. But two years later I made over half a million, you know, $500,000 in the same business Because I took those risks. I got the right mentor, I invested and that had like, I had to be like, don't be a cheap chip. Get into delusional Dan and take risks, but follow through so you get the result. And that's how it worked out.
I love that. And you made a great couple points. I mean, Tony going from 38k to 1.1 million side a year. I mean, yes, he's Tony Robbins, but even Tony Robbins wasn't Tony Robbins at one point. So you could do something similar. And back then that's like the freaking 70s, man. Like, that's a lot of money back then. That's like 5 or 10 million today. So.
So cool.
What do you think? Like, okay, so going from 500 a year in one year to 500,000, what is like the top two or three lessons you learned? I got the mentorship part, but maybe it's like one kind of like if you give people like a workflow for A to Z to do, you know, that kind of volume, Are you mostly getting clients out through Facebook ads or organic traffic or, you know.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I get most of my clients now through Facebook ads, Absolutely. That year I invested $50,000 in Facebook ads alone. Not to mention hiring consultants to help me actually implement it. So it was a big investment. And the year before I did a hundred and I ended up doing 200. But at the time when I made that commitment to invest with coaches for over $5,000 a month plus, you know, the ads themselves, plus I had to pay 15% of the upside, it was a big investment when I had just made 150,000. But the next month, not even because of the Facebook ads. I also. The other, the second thing besides Facebook ads is small events. I did my first event, it was a one day event. Now I do a two day event. But the first event I did small event, I think I only had eight potential buyers and I made $45,000 in that day. Like that was a big day for me at the time, you know, Now I've done weekends or made over a hundred grand with only 13 buyers. Like that was huge. So to get the leads themselves, I've used mostly Facebook ads, some LinkedIn communication, mostly Facebook ads, obviously referrals. But I mean the actual lead gen generation was Facebook ads. I would say 90% of it. And then the actual, like how do I close those from the Facebook ads? It was through a series of email marketing and value add and then driving them either to a strategy session or into an event. And you provide so much value before, during, after. And some people are on my list 6 months, 12 months before they end up in the mentorship. But they're at some stage, you know, seeing the value. And you got to keep dripping on people. I think that's like, I'm going off on a tangent here, but, you know, Chet Holmes actually said, poor Chet Holmes, he's not living anymore, but he has this pyramid. And at the top of the pyramid it says, like, only 3% are ready to buy now. Then 6. Oh, you got the ultimate sales machine. Yeah. So 6 to 7% are open to buying now. Right. So that's only 10%. The rest, the 90% are basically not ready. And people think, oh, I put out all this marketing, you know, if you're in your target market and you have the pool is 100% and only 10% are even open, you know, 3% are ready to buy and 7% are open to buying. But you better be dripping on those people for a while to keep moving them up the pyramid. And people, like, when they're not capturing leads, they're not mark email marketing and sending like value add stuff. Like, you are missing the boat because someone is there, they want to work with you. They're just not ready. And you said this earlier, something about being ready. Like, not everybody is closable, which is essentially. They are closable if they really have a need and desire and pain. But they might not be ready to be closed because they're just not at that stage. But you keep dripping on them, give them so much value, eventually they'll come back.
It's a window, right? People all have windows. Like again yesterday, we were talking about, this is like, you know, having people in your orbit, you know, and you're consistently influencing them, even if they're not reading your stuff. We mail every day at make more marbles and about 15,000 people, I'm proud to say it's gone up 50% in the last few months, and we're looking to kick that number up to 100 million soon. Read our stuff every day. And it's all kinds of stuff. And yeah, it could be more targeted and focused, but the general consistent principle is like, more abundance. More abundance, Abundance, more abundance.
Right.
What can we do with the things that we have to make more for everybody? And not so much focusing on competition, but how do we collaborate in new and exciting ways? And I'm on the forefront of that. And I'm getting my ass kicked sometimes in doing that, being that Abundant guy is hard sometimes, but you know, it is what it is and I'm committed to it. And that's the stand I want to make in the world. So I know that by consistently delivering value, when you do make an offer, people stand up and pay attention. Yeah, because you just never know how you're influencing people. You just don't. You have no question. So if you guys at home are listening and saying, hey, I want to start a business that's revolved around messaging or service or entrepreneurship or whatever it is, the best thing, the very best thing you could do is just get started, just putting something out on some platform somewhere. If it's Instagram, do Instagram. If it's Facebook, do Facebook. My stuff tends to be a little more long form. So it's mostly Facebook and email. But certainly don't buy into the idea that it will never amount to anything because somebody somewhere needs to hear your message said your way and it's not gonna sound like anybody else. And that's important because I think we need more messages in the world that are positive and uplifting. There's plenty of news media telling everybody how horrible things are. And yeah, if you focus on the.001% of people who had a bad day yesterday, and some of them are really bad day yesterday, that's the world you're going to see for 99.999% of people. Everything went just fine yesterday. It wouldn't make a great headline, but it was just fine.
They survived.
They survived.
And just to piggyback that, I heard someone say this, I think it was Keith Cunningham, that he's the rich dad of, rich dad, poor dad. But he said, don't let perfect get in the way of possible. Because this is most people's problem, is that they're not taking action because oh my gosh, they're putting themselves out there and they're not sure if it's done yet. Do I have the best lead magnet? Am I totally clear on my unique value proposition? Do I have everything perfectly sorted out in my niche and my target in this, this? Like, no, you're not gonna have it perfect. And if you wait to get it done perfectly, you're basically guaranteed to screw yourself. Like if you're not putting yourself out there in this world today, social media world, like, you're just, you're just never. I mean, I shouldn't say never, but you're not gonna get clients. Like you have to put yourself out there. You gotta do it in imperfect way if you want to get results. Like, had I waited till I was perfect, I mean, I'd still be broke. You know, it's just like, you do the best you can put it out there, but I mean, so many people are waiting to be perfect. And it's like, you know what? Like, you just gotta take those risks and someone. Look, someone is not gonna like you. And if you're not getting people to comment and say you suck and email you and unsubscribe, then you're not taking enough risks because it's absolutely ridiculous. Like, it's so funny. Like, I put out an ad or something and someone says, this is bullshit or this is ridiculous. And I just think it's hilarious. Like, I still don't love it because I'm a girl and I don't like people to not like me. But it's hilarious because.
We won't be enough. And if we're not enough, we won't be loved. And love is our oxygen. It's our competitive advantage. If we don't feel love, we're gonna feel like we're gonna die, right? It's. There's brain chemicals you need in this life. Dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, cocaine. There are ways to meet those needs for those brain chemicals in healthy ways, you know, and there's ways to meet those brain chemicals in other ways, like cocaine. But it's not sustainable. And ultimately it doesn't serve anybody.
Except for, by the way, just, I don't do cocaine, kid. Just to make sure, like, everybody got that joke.
There's a great Mitch Hedberg line. He's like, I used to do drugs. I still do.
And I still do. I know that line. That's funny. I used to do drugs. I still do drugs.
But I used to.
But I used to too. That's so funny that I would actually know that reference. My friend used to love that guy. Yeah, I'm actually pregnant, so I'm definitely, especially not doing drugs.
Awesome. Well, congratulations. What are you doing?
I'm due in January.
Congratulations. Wonderful, wonderful time. And congratulations to Daddy as well. Trevor was just on the show last week. If you guys haven't checked out that episode, I recommend you check it out because he is a high energy individual. He has a super amount of fun doing our thing, and we like to keep it fun. And he's like, oh, you gotta have my wife on. I'm like, absolutely. Would love to have Robin on. So here we are. It's super exciting. So let's kind of shift gears because we talked about the manifesting. Right. Make a new, intriguing future through enrollment, speaking, and thought leadership. Let's move on to seeds we talked about seeking in every encounter. Diagnose, serve, support, create space for and solve people's problems. Not exactly in that order, but pretty close. And then the next part, which is my favorite part, is my end of my value chain. Right? I did the two things. Now this is the thing I want to do to really add value, people, people's lives, is how can I connect a resource, opportunity, person, or system to your life that would help you move your vision further along? And that's kind of an ask from the make more marvelous communities like Robin. You've spent so much time today giving us the keys to the kingdom. Here's how you do it. And you can dig into more on Robin's website and her books and everything that she's done. But what is one thing that we can give back to you to help you to move your mission forward?
Hmm? What can you do to help me?
Yeah, that's a crazy.
Gosh, I don't know. What do you mean? In what sense?
Yeah. So I truly believe that the right connection, the right resource, the right opportunity, the right person, the right system at the right time, like, you know what your pain points are in life, it doesn't have to do anything with business. Right. You talked about you were working on your health, right? Now maybe there's a great resource out there.
Okay, I got it. I got it. Okay. So I will say with my health, okay, Because I had to find it there. So one of the guys that spoke, I'm sure you remember, his name was Dr. Gundry, and he has a new book called the Plant Paradox, which I'm reading and very intrigued by, because I've had colitis for 20 years and have tried to heal myself and really, like, believe I can and just haven't had, you know, have success with that. And so I have the tendency to just want help. Like, I know I can find it within myself. And that was part of, like, a limiting belief that I was working on at upw. But I also think it's really smart to have mentors. So if there is someone who is familiar with the Plant paradox or, you know, I feel like I need some. Not just accountability, but, like, I'm also pregnant. So here I am following this regimen, this protocol, and I don't have anyone to bounce it off of. I've actually sent, like, Dr. Gundry's world, like, a message twice. If anyone can get me in touch with Dr. Gundry, like, that would be the best resource because I want to talk to him and make sure that I'm not. You know, when it says you can have shrimp, I'm not screwing myself. Like, maybe I shouldn't for a pregnancy, or maybe there's different. Or like, I just want to get healed as fast as possible and heal myself as fast as possible. So I would love help getting there. So either someone in Dr. Gundry's world community or him himself or someone who can help me get there, that would be cool. And I'm like, working towards it and stuff, but I feel like I need that support. I was working. There was another woman I hired about a year ago, and I followed her protocol for a year, and she was amazing, really cool, and I believed it would work, but it wasn't working. And so then I started to lose confidence. Belief alone phenomenon works in the opposite way as well. It wasn't working, so I totally lost belief and confidence that the system would work. And I told her because I know this belief loan phenomenon. I said, you know, I said, hey, can I talk to some people who have gone through this? And maybe it did take a year, but they kept throwing. It worked because I need to, like, I need that social proof. I need to borrow the belief from not just you, but from other people, the community, so that I'll continue to do this because I want to give up and quit. And she's like, oh, well, I don't like to do that because you really got. Everybody's different. You got to find it within yourself and all that. And. And like, it was. It was really like when I was asking to have a need met and I didn't get it. Like, I needed that social proof and I needed that community to talk to people specifically, like, what's working for you and how do I keep doing this? And you know, what maybe am I missing? And I had a, you know, communication with her. I could ask her, but it was just different. Like, I felt like I knew the community. So I feel like, you know, for me, I need some of that. So I would love to find someone who has either gone had colitis, but who's used the plant paradox or something like it and healed themselves. And to also, you know, not just a coach, but also maybe someone who has done that successfully with this program and said, hey, it works. Keep believing, man, and then keep following through with it.
You know, Ari, myself was on the show not too long ago. He runs Leverage, which used to be less doing, and his whole story is around how he had colitis and that issue. He's actually in New York. I don't know if you're connected to him, but I think he'd be a good resource to ask.
Hook it up.
Yeah.
Can you send me an intro?
Absolutely. I'd be happy to. So that's one. And then hopefully that'll lead to something really awesome.
Yeah. Cool. It's happening. I'm. I'm like, I know it's happening, but yeah, those are. That's exactly what I need as far as resources go. Just, like, perfect little push in that direction. Thank you for asking.
And anybody listening at home have other resources that have worked. I have blessed and grateful that I never had this exact issue, but my mom certainly has and some of my friends certainly have, so I'll keep it in mind. And now the reticular activating system is activated. I can be on. My pleasure, Robin. And thank you for being so open and sharing that, because, you know, it gives people permission to step up and say, hey, I'm struggling with that too. You know what? Let's keep the conversation going. This is a community for a reason, as we all help each other and we're better than the sum of our parts. Thank you for that. Stepping into that gap as a leader. All right, well, that was good. Thank you. And thank you as always for coming on and rocking. It's always a pleasure to get to chat with you. Where can people find you? What is the newest, best, and most exciting things happening in Robin's world? And how can they connect with you if they feel compelled to reach out for any reason?
Yeah, great question. Thanks. So the best way, I mean, you can just find me on my website, but I would say get my book. And it's really created for female entrepreneurs. However, I've had many men read it and really get the principles out of it and be able to apply it as well. But that's. You can get the free book. I just let you download it because I really want people who are ready to implement and want the help. I don't really care to make money off the book, but if you go to robincraine.com freebook you'll get there. So. R O B Y N C-R-A N E.com freebook. That is definitely worth it. It's crazy. I give everything away. I give the whole entire book. And it's not like an ebook. It's like, sorry, I don't want to scare you, but 286 pages of lots of stories, inspiring stories, and what they did specifically. You know how someone like Lisa went from negative 300amonth to. In the book, I said 40,000 by now. It's only a few months later, she's made 85,000. That's how quickly she's growing her income breeze in there. She went from 4,500 to over 23,000amonth. I mean, it's just insane. So lots of stories like that that will inspire you and help build the belief and then you'll get all these bonuses and stuff as well.
And borrow the belief from the book.
That's right. And I talk about the belief loan phenomenon in there as well.
And for all you people with a message out there, giving away a book is probably the best thing you could do these days. You know, like a book is a business card. That's all it is. And if somebody spends six or eight hours reading your business card, they're going to get out there and tell people about you, you know, especially if it helped them in some way. So don't make a crappy book, but make a book and get it out to the world. We're working on two right now. I'm taking my own advice. So, Robin, thank you so much for being on the show. And Trevor, I said hello again. He's awesome. Thank you again.
I will for sure.
And we hope to see you again sooner than later. I'll be in New York in a couple weeks.
