Welcome to Make More Marbles. My name is Brad Hart and we're here to interview the game changers, the future makers, the co collaborators and creators who are here to collaborate with one another towards a better future for all of us. Enjoy the show. We've got a great guest coming up for you right now. Welcome to Make More Marbles. My name is Brad Hart and today I am thrilled, overjoyed, excited and grateful to have Mr. Tommy Baker from Resist Average ad.
Academy.
Academy. Academy.
Academy.
Got it right the second, fourth and fifth time.
Yeah, you did. So excited to be here, Brad, and love the energy, man.
I love you, Tommy. Last time I talked to you, I was up in Vancouver. We're chatting a little bit before the show. Tommy has an incredible podcast called the Resist Average Academy. He has the setup for sure. He's got his shure mic, he's got his sure fire solution to sound equality and equalization back there. He's got his incredible headphones, he got a sound engineer actually setting up.
That's how we roll, man. The desk to help me out.
But it's super fun. Thank you so much for being on the show. And yeah, let's get right into it. So in case people in Marble Land haven't heard from you yet, let's kind of ground them with a story about Tommy Baker and how he became the man he is today.
Absolutely. I love that. I love that. And so a story that comes to mind is that will put all the context together is really simple. I've always, you know, I grew up in South America, which if you couldn't tell by my white and fair skin, but specifically in Colombia. And it was a massive challenge, man. I would move back and forth and I never truly felt like I fit in anywhere. I was just kind of like always in between. Never really had a home. Home, what I would consider. So I've always felt out of place. And growing up, I knew early on that the traditional route of working for somebody else wasn't for me. So I started an ebay business when I was super young. I would go to YouTube shows, I would record the shows and then sell. Now, I don't know how street legal this was, but it made me a good amount of cash when I was super, super young. And fast forward to opening up a couple of gyms in the fitness industry to where I am now. The constant theme was really looking at problems through different lenses and different angles. And not fitting in was actually a gift for me because it allowed me to be creative and really fall in love with the person looking back in the mirror. I know that sounds so cliche, fall in love with yourself, etc. Etc. But I found out with everything that I've learned, everything that I've studied that man, if you don't appreciate yourself. We talked about gratitude. You showed me your view. And we don't have gratitude for the person in front of us, the person that we spend all of our time with. Then we don't follow through on stuff. And even if we do follow through and we execute, we somehow get results in life, it's empty because we still feel like something is missing. So that's a Cliff Notes version, but, yeah, excited to be here.
That's beautiful.
Thank you, Tommy.
And I think we all have a journey. And if you can relate to the failures that people have, which everybody can relate to.
Right.
Not everybody has success, but everybody has failure. You're more likely to find how connected and how much we have in common with each other. Not just.
Exactly.
Because that's. I think what most people struggle with is they see the world and they look at it and they say, oh, my God, these people are those people. It's like, no, there's just people. Everybody's doing their best, and everybody knows that they know, and they don't know what they don't know, which is most of the universe, in fact. And it's kind of incredible to see people's journeys and how they interact with each other. And, you know, one of my stated missions is to catalyze human connection, right? To be that connecting force in humanity. And I know that's not a conversation or an ability I have to do on my own. It's creating people, a possibility for people step into that role themselves. Doesn't create more leader or more followers. They create more leaders, you know?
Exactly, man. And when I think of the stuff that you do and the message that you promote, so powerful. It's like, man, I just think of an abundant mindset, you know, like, more. More is more. More for somebody else means more for me. Like, that's. That's what I get. That's what I feel, actually, when I look at your content, man. So thank you. Thank you.
Yeah, it's that whole make more marbles thing.
Right?
It's just.
Yeah.
We don't have to be the Hungry Hungry Hippos. We can. We can certainly make more. And the supply is infinite, so.
Exactly. Exactly.
Actually, I've been thinking about that metaphor a lot because I'm writing my book, and one of the things I look at is, like, we talk about this infinite sandbox, right? This creative, playful universe that we live in. What happens with sand, right? If you take sand, you heat it up, it becomes glass. If you give that glass your little twist, your little, you know, two cents that you can add to it, that becomes a marble. And those marbles are beautiful and colorful and they're always interesting and fun to check out. And they're yours. They're unique. There's no two marbles that are alike. Everyone has their own little perfections. Everyone has their own, little, you know, symmetries and asymmetries. And they're collectible, they're, they're unique, they're exciting. And they're yours.
Absolutely, absolutely.
And there's, there's never going to be a scarcity of sand for sure, as far as I know, or matter a substrate in the universe. Even in, if you geek out and you watch like the Martian or you read the book by Andy Weir talks about substrate and silica being abundant on Mars and you can just basically send up a 3D printer to 3D printers to print, you know, whatever you need up there. You know, we haven't even begun to flex our muscles just like you said.
We don't right now. We don't know what we don't know.
Yeah. We can't get stuck in the, in the base stages, which is getting those tools now. We have to have the belief systems behind them.
Exactly.
So Tommy, how do you help people resist being average? How do you help people step up into their greatness and use these tools that we now have to take action towards a better world for themselves and others?
Absolutely. And just like I said, you know, for me with helping people and just through my own journey of self, self preservation, you know, I start helping people extract their personal power and clarity. And so it's, it's this deep rooted belief in themselves because so many times and you know, this, we focus on what hasn't happened or where we fell short and, or what happened when we were XYZ years old. And that just becomes the narrative to which we live our life and we become inherently capped. And so I start people a path of hey, let's reclaim your personal power and clarity. And then, and once we have that, I allow them the space to create a bold vision, a truly bold vision that moves them emotionally. I will not move forward until they're moved emotionally. Yes, that means tears. And for the men out there, I won't move forward until you show me that it's important to you. On a deep rooted Level, not from the head, but from the heart. And then we create a process of reverse engineering that. And where I fit into that equation most powerfully, I do the whole thing. But where I fit in the most is once the vision is unlocked, it's okay, cool. It means a lot to you. It matters to you. You got emotional about it. Now how do we reverse engineer this in a way where you can actually start seeing the fruits of your vision? 1% every single day, just a little bit every single day. And you add in that energy of the vision and that 1% progress towards moving towards your mountain and you start to build an inner confidence that nobody can take anything away from you. And this has been years in the making because I would go to a lot of events and people would get excited and I would get excited and then we'd come home and then we revert back to the same patterns, the same routines. No matter how big the breakthrough, how big the vision was, we'd always revert back to the norm. And I knew there had to be a way to raise the set point every single day strategically to give people this personal power and clarity on a daily basis so we can bring that vision to life. Because when we do that, guess what happens? We create ripple effects. I love that.
And I also talk about the 1% every day. And I know we, you know, are all influencing each other. And there's no such thing as an original idea, but the way I like to think about it is like those gains are not, you know, it's not 1% per day addition. 365 days later, it's 365%. It's actually compounding. So that 1% becomes 3,778% after a year.
Right.
That's turns in the markets. You'd be really happy with any amount of money.
And that's the ethos of my new book. At the worst case scenario. Brad, let's just say it's worst case scenario. And we get incremental growth. Hey, anywhere from incremental growth. So 3.65 to 37x I'm going to. I could deal with that. Somewhere in between of that. That's, that's further along than where I am today. And that's the name of the game. And what I love about 1%, which you talked about, is that it releases this pressure that people put on themselves. You and I have seen this. We put a lot of pressure, these huge expectations. When you have massive expectations, but your commitments don't match those expectations, you end up quitting, you end up stopping. You end up program hopping or idea hopping or whatever it may be. And you don't actually see the fruits of your labor. So that's the name of the game, man. We're on the same page.
You gotta wait until, you know, you gotta be able to stand in the gap long enough for the things to actually show up when you're committed.
It takes time. Everything takes time. You know, it's like, I love the story of, you know, the farmer who plants the tree, plants the seeds for the trees. And like, you know, some of us out there, and we've all done this is like we wake up the next day and we're hitting the soil, we're saying, where is it? Right? And the agave tree. The agave tree right here in Sedona, it takes. It might take a hundred years to bloom. 100 years. Just imagine that one time. And when it does, man, it goes like. It's this beautiful, beautiful agave. But patience, this power of patience, and it's patience cultivated with a daily practice. You're still moving forward. It's not that you're not executing, but it's this beautiful process of allowing, you know, the universe to catch up with your intentions. And there's always going to be a residue for that.
Yeah. And I think if it went too fast. I love the agave analogy, by the way, because I just learned recently they have giant sprouts that come out. Yes. Like they, they have that one moment of, of beauty where they bloom and. And then they're dead. Right.
One. They got one shot, man.
It's crazy. It was that long of a cycle because there's thousands of agave plants, then here they blame all over the place. And I love that analogy because ultimately, you know, if you could manifest as quickly as you could think that would be a problem. Right. Pink elephant and pink elephant, that would be a problem.
Too much.
There's gotta be that. That space. Because ultimately, if we were that powerful, where you could create on demand, we would create hell on earth immediately or just go wrong very quickly. So we need that space to create.
Yeah.
Allow the universe to show up in a way that it does. Because nothing is hurry, but everything gets accomplished. That's nature. If you go into any forest and you just look around at all the progress that's happening on a microscopic, to a macroscopic level. And I studied biology and botany in school, and I was always fascinated by how long things took, but how quickly and efficiently they actually happened.
Exactly, exactly. And I love, I Love that you bring up nature because. And it's, you know, that's one of the ethos of what I do too.
It's like, we're not natural. We think we're like some separate thing from nature.
Exactly.
It's like, no, we're natural beings living in a natural, orderly universe. We're ignoring all laws thereof.
Yeah. And there's so much, you know. Hey, I know we both love masterminds and coaching and all that stuff is amazing. But hey, you could go out in nature for a day and you could learn some. Some of the. Some of the best life lessons that I've learned because we go to Sedona here a lot because the nature is just so beautiful. Some of the best life lessons I can learn out in nature. Right. Like the growth. Growth happens. Growth doesn't just happen. When an organism is 100% supported in the perfect condition. No. Growth happens in the intersection of support and challenge. Right. From a microscopic level to. Our cells are constantly dying off to macro. And so there's a lot of lessons that we can learn that are right in front of us, that we don't have to go somewhere we can just open up our eyes a little bit more.
I love that idea where you talk about the growth and the challenge.
Yeah.
You know, because that's one of the concepts I pulled from Steven Kotler with the flow book.
Yes.
Where he talks about. I think it was 4%. Like, if you can be above your current level of ability, so you're challenged, but you're not overwhelmed. It's like this middle ground between. He said it's like. It's like a 4% grade. And we talk about 1%. I think that's so relevant for most people and they can get their head around that. But it's really like, if you can get to that 4% zone, that's the zone of flow. And flow is where you're challenged, but you also feel like you can still do it.
Exactly. Yeah. It's that. It's. It's just that it's a beautiful dance, man. That's. That's what I call it, that dance. And we all have that. That different level of. Of dance where it feels attainable and. But we're still question a little bit. Can I actually do this? Yeah, I can do this. Right. And that's when we enter the flow state that you're talking about, when things. We lose track of time and space. And it's. It's beautiful, man. It's available to everybody.
Yeah. So what are Some of the ways that people can hack flow in your experience, right. You have a martial arts background, I believe, right?
Martial arts fitness. Yeah.
So maybe some. You know, I know that state learned from Tony Robbins is your physical body rides about half of the picture right there. Whatever you're doing with your physical body at any given time is why I stand up when I, you know, talk. That's why I'm around using my body, energizing. I got pull up stuff out in the garage. Although puppies on babysitting so crazy I'm trying not to make that happen at the moment. You know, I'm always using my body and that's the first step. If you can get your body in a good place at any moment, you can change your state right there. 100% pieces are what you're focusing on at any given time and what your language is at any given time. Like what are you saying to yourself, right? What are the words you're using? If you could do those two things from a place of your body feels good and you're in really good shape and you're going to be in a good state and you're going to be in a flop. And if you're not, the train starts going off the rails pretty quickly. So as a, as a master of body and mind aesthetics and understanding how the body relates to the mind and the spirit, can you talk a little bit about some of the quick things that people can do consistently every day to get into a great state and to be in that flow state?
Absolutely, absolutely. And what you said is absolutely spot on. Right? Because if you don't address the physical, it can become very hard to address the higher states. I have this practice, I don't know if I've even mentioned this besides my upcoming book, but I have this really short practice called spiritual fitness. Now it does involve a few moving parts, but for me it allows me to get in the highest peak emotional state as fast as possible with as minimum amount of work. And I call it spiritual fitness. So it involves four or five components and you have to be warmed up. This is like something that you would do outside, etc, etc. You do it anywhere. One is that you pick a target, you pick a target that you can see. So for me it might be a pole, a tree, something that I see out in the, in the future, you know, in front of me, a physical target. Number two is I close my eyes and I take three deep breaths. And number three is I start to visualize where I'm going with my Life, my vision, what I want to create the big things. And it could be in any area of life it can encapsulate. Just be really specific with it. Number four, I open my eyes and now the object that I chose becomes the vision. Number five is to sprint towards that vision. So get the body moving as fast as possible. Go as hard as you can, you get there, it doesn't have to be long, and you get there. And number six, to finish it off, you get to the physical marker, you get to your vision, you close your eyes, and you live in gratitude for what it would feel like to accomplish that vision. And I'll do this, and I'll do sets of, you know, 4 to 12 of these spiritual fitness sprints. This is one of the greatest ways that I've found to encapsulate all of this learning that we have all of these different systems in one easy way to do it that blends the mind, the body and the spirit all in one man. If you do that and you put your heart into it, there's no way you won't feel more inspired and on fire to get into what we call what we're talking about here, which is flow states. Dr.
It's a swish pattern. It's an LP switch pattern.
Yeah.
It's physical. I love it. You've actually married two things that I think people can actually get their head around. And if you guys aren't familiar with switch patterns, it's essentially making an object bright and near and close as opposed to dull and gray and black and white and far away. And your visual visualizing that. And you can take a traumatic memory and make it dull and gray and push it far away and take a really good memory and bring it a lot closer and make it big and bright. And that's how your body and mind work together to train itself to see and to visualize and to feel different things than you would have felt. It's just neuro linguistic programming. But that's a really great way to actually go out and do it. Right. It's like picture, there's that thing out in the world. I'm going to sprint towards it and be grateful that I got there.
Yeah. And it's, it's, you know, it did. I created it obviously by accident, but when I, when I did it, I was like, man, like, I was, I was peak state the first time and I was like, okay, I gotta, like, I gotta make sure this was just not a one off. The right confluence of sunshine and whatever happened that one day and then every time I did, it would happen. Then I sort of share with people and they were like, man, that was pretty powerful. Then some of my clients started doing it. So really, really powerful to get into that state. And then, and then the second thing is, once you're actually in that peak state, got to protect it. You got to protect it, right? Because it'd be very easy to get into peak emotional states. And then we give our energy away to stimulus, distraction, maybe social media, etc. Etc. So I'm a huge fan of a Cal Newport and Deep Work. Just had him on the podcast, actually. And to me, the biggest. Once you get in a high emotional state, you got to do everything you can to put yourself in a place where you're in this deep work pattern, you're not being distracted, et cetera, et cetera. And so you put both of those two, you create the state and then you protect the state. You're good to go. You'll produce more in six hours than you will in a week.
I love that. And batching is a really key thing too. It's like doing the same high level task when you're in that state. Like, that's what I do on my podcast. In one day, I'll do five or six of these in a row.
I won't even. Well, you. You literally get in flow, right?
I get in flow and I love talking to people and I don't even feel anything. I don't hear. There's nothing outside these walls. I'm just creating and giving as much as I possibly can right here and then I'm done.
And your mind's creating the neurological connections because let's say. Yeah, and I know you write too. So let's say that, you know, you did three podcasts and then you went to try to go, right? Very, very hard, right? Because neurologically, you're already in the state where you're being social, you're communicating, you're picking up on cues. And then to go to a place where you're trying to express yourself through writing can be very, very difficult. And so what you're doing is brilliant because you actually train your brain when you're present. When you're in a podcast, you are fully there. And then on the other days when you're creating stuff, like for me, my writing days, I'm like in a cave, man. You will not find me, you will not text me. I will not go to lunch with anyone. Phone is off. Text my girl. Of course. But besides that, I am just so it's important to have those barriers.
Yeah, it's so important. And that's how I wrote my book too. It was just an hour a day, every day. My morning routine. Get in the peak state, write for an hour. It didn't matter If I wrote 10 words. Didn't matter if I wrote 2,000 words. And a lot of days I was closer to the 2000 mark. But over time, like, I got really good at. I would take all of the stuff I wanted to write about and I would do these creative sessions where I had these big post it notes, and I would just. Just every idea I could possibly think of just on a post it note. And I want to do that for a while. I would just do one of those a day, and then it'd be on the wall. And then when I go to write, there they all were. And I could just say, okay, I'm gonna write this today. I didn't have to sit in front of a blank page and say, oh, well, what am I gonna write about today? It's like, no, I did the creative session. Now it's to go crush it and put it into words.
I love that. I love that. And that's that, that priming. So when you're there and you just go. And I'm sure you experienced this for me, when I write, I do 500 words a day, and that just becomes my minimum threshold target. Because I know, much like a workout, much like anything in life, those first 250 words, like, I'm not gonna feel that good. I'm not. I might not be in flow. Once I get to 500, I'm like, okay, I got some confidence, 750. And I've had 15k days where it wasn't my purpose to do 15k. I just got into a flow state and allowed myself to just go, well.
Again, it comes down to that 1%, right? So if you could get, let's say, average out 2k words a day, which isn't hard, do that in an hour. Most people, right, if they're. They can type and they know what they want to write about. So, you know, the average book is 100k words. So in 50 days, call it 60, just, you know, say a few mulligans. In two months, you got a book.
Exactly.
Hire a ghostwriter to make it, like, you know, reasonably well delivered and to make sure the message gets across the way it's intended to. And if you want to do it yourself, there's books like Book in a Box, those guys over there that can Help you. But that's the essence right there. You could crank out, theoretically, four or five books a year. I have a friend, Stefan Arnio, has goals to write 20 books. He's, like, four or five into it. It's just incredible to see the prolific, consistent volume people could put out. I'm gonna put out two books this year. A lot of other stuff, too. So just reminding yourself that your excuses, your objections are overruled.
And, you know, you go to a lot of events. I've been to a lot of events. And really the number one thing that holds people back from what I've seen time and time again, it's not know how. It's not skills. Usually they're acquiring those. It's not even their network. They got powerful people in their network. It's a lack of discipline and focus. And so that. That's why a couple years ago, when I got into deep work, it really changed my life. And it's so cliche to say, you know, this book changed my life, but that one actually did, because it challenged me on how I was working and operating. I was like, dude, I'm spending a lot of time training myself to literally be dumb in a sense, not into, you know, to do shallow tasks that don't actually move the needle forward of my life. And so it really transformed me. And so focus and discipline and structure and routine, to me, actually create the freedom that we're looking for on the other side to begin with.
That's so important. I have a protege slash collaborator on some projects. His name's Alex Mullen. You might know him, actually.
No. Yeah. Yeah.
So Alex is the most consistent person I know, you know, and he's incredible. Like, I gave him the reins of the mailing list about 15 months ago, and he just never missed a beat. He went for literally 15 months without missing a single day of email. So to make you guys are on the list, you know, like, I'm out. We're out there.
Absolutely.
Yeah. And we. We want to be right. We don't. If you want unsubscribe because we're sending too much email.
Great.
Like, this isn't for you. I get it. You know, we've been back and forth a lot on that. I. I just know that consistency wins 100%, you know, so I've actually asked Alex, and now I'm calling him out in public here to create a post on how he got to be so damn consistent, because it's freaking fascinating. I'm not that consistent. Yeah, I can write a lot Certainly. And I can be prolific. But I, you know, I know my personality is like, goes in ways.
Sure.
And I work really hard for extended period of time and then I crash. Yeah. To go inward and then I work really hard and I have to have a little brush fire in my life and just clear out the dead wood and start over again. That's kind of what I'm doing right now. I was like, alright, all these projects, all these things I could work on, I got all these opportunities. What do I really care about and how do I refocus and create the space to work on that?
Exactly, exactly. And that's, and that's a, that's almost like at a minimum a quarterly inventory that you gotta take. Right. And I know someone like you with so many different opportunities being thrown your way, it's like maybe that becomes like a weekly deal, like, okay, this week, like, what, what is the priority? What stuff Do I have to push on to another season? I do, I want to do it. Yes. But not right now. I can do it another season. And what are my priorities now? And I always think, for me that's another one of my big practices that I call a Sunday reflection. It's just important to get that weekly marker of like, okay, let's see where I won this week. Let's see where I was challenged and what solutions can I come up with it? How much closer I am to the goals that I set. What am I committed to this week in my body? What am I committed to this week in my business? What am I committed to in my writing? Etc. Etc. And you get that little pivot, that course correction. So in the span, if you start to go a different way throughout your, you know, once you've set your targets like, you get right back on track and you allow yourself the space to recommit to your priorities. You know, people think clarity is like this one time deal. I just, I got clarity at the weekend seminar and I am good for life. And I'm like, dude, clarity is a daily muscle. You better be, you better be clear every single day and you better be reaffirming your vision every single day. And guess what? Both of those are going to change. Because that's, that's the human evolution. It is an evolution. Things do change and they are fluid. And so it has to become a practice.
Yeah. And what you get along the way and what you achieve, you know, don't fall into the trap of thinking, oh, I got this thing and be despondent because it didn't feel the way you thought it was going to feel, it's going to feel like every other day.
Exactly. Exactly.
Special because now it's a new platform for what you can grow onto. And getting the thing that you want is the best thing that happened to you because it shows you that life is not about a destination. It's about the journey.
You got there 100%.
You, as the person who went through that journey and now has those skills and tools, can now show up and do even bigger and better things and should.
Right.
You should give up the things that had served you up until this point and no longer do so that you can rise up. Because then that inspires others to step in your shoes and that inspires you to step up to a bigger level of service for more people.
Exactly. And I love the question, who would I have to become to write a book, host a live event, whatever, travel, whatever your big audacious goals are, like, who do you have to become? And that's what you're talking about. That's the process of becoming. It never ends. There's no completion. It's a beautiful journey and you just get bigger and bolder adventures to step into, step into your fears and see what's on the other side. Awesome.
Tommy, I appreciate you sharing what you've shared so far and just making it simple for everybody to dive into it. What I like about you is that you're. You're very consistent and you do what you say you're gonna do and you have a high standard and you just do it. And there's so many people out there that talk and I appreciate how you just act.
I love that man. Thank you for that. Appreciation means the world.
Absolutely. So one thing I wanted to talk to you about and I don't know how.
Woo woo.
We can get with this, but let's make some people uncomfortable. I live next to an energy vortex. It's here in Encinitas. There's a self realization fellowship. Paramahansa Yogananda founded it. And there's something about this place that I just don't even understand completely. That the second I moved here, life started expanding so rapidly. It was just insane. More so than any other place I've lived. I felt this way in other places around the world. And you know, if you read some of these things on the Internet, you know, here we go, right? You'll hear about like Sedona being one of them. You'll hear about, there's one in Montauk, Long Island. There's one. And you know, all These different places around the world. Anyway, what are your experiences with having lived in Sedona or near Sedona? And you believe that there's something different about that place or other places in the world than others? And how does that maybe map to reality in your experience?
Yeah, 100%, man. And, you know, I'll say, you know, and going back to beliefs, well, first of all, it's like when you go to some of these places, what, you know, what is the feeling that comes up? And when I go to Sedona, it is a different feeling. There's just a different feeling. I don't know how to explain it. You can explain the science between the polarity, the stuff that actually creates the energy vortexes. And you look in Sedona and you see these trees and they're all twisted and that's where the energy is really, really strong. And they're literally like twisted and wound up. And it's crazy, but at the end of the day, it's just like this feeling, this feeling of creativity, space, possibility. And it doesn't have to happen for anybody out there. It doesn't necessarily have to happen in one of these quote unquote, mystical places. You know, I'm currently in a co working space and the moment that I walked in here, I said, I gotta be here. Energy, I felt creative energy. By just being at this co working space didn't make any sense, like in terms of the commute, didn't make any sense of all this other stuff. But I said, I gotta be here because it's gonna allow me to step into a bolder version of myself. So I think same thing with what you experience. It's like, man, like, if you go somewhere and you get this feeling, like, take note of that and hold onto it and hopefully find a way to strategically get back there or find, discover different places that give you a similar feeling. And that's why I study a lot of my dude, Dr. Joe Dispenja, as you just saw him in Sedona recently at an event. And he just talks about how our environments really either hold us hostage to the past or pull us towards a greater future. And to me it's like, man, I don't care how positive you are, how enthusiastic you are, if I put you in a room of 100, people who have a victim mentality are very negative, are only talking about news media that is negative. You may resist for a week, you may resist for three weeks. You can be the most positive person. Osmosis is going to win. They are going to drag you down. Your mindset is going to shift after a certain while. And so the takeaway for the audience based on your question is like, are your environments pulling you towards a powerful vision and the feelings that you want to feel, or are they holding you back and reminding you of who you've been and where you've been?
Yeah, that's a great way to put it. And we are energetic beings, whether we like it or not. Right. Energy is, I'm sorry, matter is just energy that's condensed with low vibration.
Yes.
And your vibration really does attract everything in your life. It just does. You know, this is not woo woo nonsense. It's true. Like, you know, look at the laws of gravity, look at the laws of thermodynamics, look at how energy and physics behave. If you study this stuff at a high level, you'll actually start to see these patterns throughout the universe. I'm not saying that we can, you know, talk about everything at a high level that's happening. There's stuff that we don't know, certainly, but, you know, scientifically can be proven.
That.
Being in a certain state of energy field, like just being at a certain vibrational level attracts certain different things in your life. And I know this to be true. Like the second I start getting to a low vibration pattern, stuff just starts going turvy. And I got to pay attention to what I'm doing because it's powerful, you know, and when I'm in a high vibe, just stuff kind of magically all flows together very easily. And it has to do with the observer, you know, it has nothing to do with, you know, the world is the same, but my relationship to it is different.
And we've all felt both of those, right? And when we're in those peak states, we just want more of that. And the great, great thing is that we can, we can, we can create that we can choose that we can create practices and we can create the space to feel that energy every single day and focus on what's possible. And you and I know that you.
Literally train your nervous system, the wire fire over and over again until.
Exactly, exactly. And what we've done though, what we've done, this can be the really hard part, is that we've trained ourselves. I call it paving superhighways, right? Like we paved neurological superhighways of, let's just say, negativity, right? And we were used to the news, murders, tragedies, just being a victim, you know, and we paved those highways and they become airport high you know, airport pavements that's been paved on millions of times over and over again. And then we try to create something new. We might go to an event or we might be inspired by something. We try to hop into those. But what are those neural pathways look like? They look like a dirt road in Mexico. We haven't paved them over and over and over again. So we have to allow ourselves some grace, that it's gonna take some time for the new status quo, for the new program to be rewired. And once it is like, I know for you and I, if we find ourselves in lower emotional states because we've paid the high emotional states so many times, we've been in that place so many times. We can snap into it instantaneously. We can choose it. You just spoke about it. And authentically, too. We're not just making it up. Like we actually feel we're good, we're back, we're creative. That's a practice like anything else. We just gotta. Gotta put in the reps. Yeah.
I've just seen my own life. How powerless I was back then. You know, when I used to drink or when I used to, you know, run around and travel all the time and just. I was just. Harry. Just looking for somewhere to be. But everywhere I went, there I was right. It wasn't until I stood my ground and said, I'm going to fix this.
Exactly.
That took me years. You know, it took me a lot of practice. I still, you know, even though I've gone through the mastery programs, if you will.
Yeah.
Still go back and have that space repetition that I think you need to. To keep it going. Because I fall and I slip and I get down on myself and it's. I don't think anything really changes. You just move in bigger amounts of money. You're moving bigger opportunities, leveraging different relationships. You know, you're able to gain leverage that you didn't have before. And the percentage gains are the same. It's still at 1%, but the 1% is a lot bigger.
Exactly, exactly.
And people quit before they see the exponential curve take off. I'm in that, like, singularity mode where it's like, all right, we're trending towards something spectacular. And I'm having bigger and bigger conversations. Bigger and bigger people are open bigger and bigger doors that are moving bigger and bigger amounts of money. It's really exciting. But it took me 20 fucking years. I've been an entrepreneur since I was 12. Right. It was out of necessity. It was a path that was chosen. For me, and I don't know that I can be any other way. And I just beg for forgiveness when I ruffle people's feathers. Like, I just had this happen to me with a dear friend yesterday. We're on the board of a foundation together, and I asked her for a favor, and it rubbed her the wrong way. And I told her, I'm like, listen, I'm really good at pushing people's buttons. It's all I know how to do it. Also good at communicating and working through it, and probably better that we're getting through it now. And this is. I'm glad that this happened so that we can even grow our relationship stronger, because I just know that I'm not like most people. And I've grown to accept and love myself at a deep level, and now I finally found a tribe that accepts and loves me as well. And it wasn't easy. Most people that meet me, they rub them the wrong way for a while, and I'm okay with that. I really am, because I know that the people who can't handle it will filter out, and I need that time. I need to protect my personal 100%. And I know that the people that are supposed to be there will only appreciate it more over time, even if it's not right away. Like, my girlfriend and I've known each other for a year. We only started dating six weeks ago because we both had to grow into people that it made sense for. And everybody's like, oh, my God, I can never see this coming. And I'm like, that's beautiful. Here we are.
That's beautiful. Yeah, that. That. That whole evolution is beautiful. And what you just said is really powerful because it can become very easy, like, for you to be reactive. Right. So going back to some of the stories that you're saying, like, if you had rubbed people the wrong way on your path of growth and discovering who you are, it would have been very easy to say, hey, I'm going to dim Brad Hart's light a little bit. Because even though it's authentic to me, this person didn't like it. This happened. This happened. And what happens when you. When you dim your own lights or you lower the volume of your life is what I call it, you really end up. You. You placate the Pete. You think you're placating the people who you're gonna be away from criticism, which you and I know won't happen. Someone will always judge us. But really, the tragedy is that you don't attract your tribe because they Want you as Brad Hart, authentically, 100%, whatever that means to you at the time. They're attracted to that version of Brad Hart. Now, is everyone gonna like it all the time? No, that's the name of the game. But they're gonna respect it, right? Because it's authentic to you. And just going back to feelings, this is not something that you can, you know, make up. Like, this is. This is energy. This is real. And like, if I was having dinner with you in person or even just right now, but if we're physically together, I'd be able to say this guy appreciates who he is and he's not changing himself just because he's in different contexts. And man, people want that in 2018, you know, people want that authenticity. And that's what creates connection. That's what creates. Creates a powerful tribe and a support system. And doesn't mean you agree with everything, but it allows you to really give this experience meaning, which is what we're all here for anyways.
Yeah. And as a child who didn't belong and had a lot of pain associated with that, it's a really good feeling to be in a place finally where I accept myself unconditionally.
That's amazing. And that's the key. Unconditional. And that's so hard for some people. That's a lot. No, not even a lifetime journey, because sometimes it doesn't even happen. And that unconditional acceptance is. It's hard. It's messy, man.
Like situational. And it's not 100% of the time. I'm not going to say it is. I still get triggered by some of my old shit, but I notice it and I realize, oh, I'm being triggered again.
It's the power of the pivot, right? Like we all do, right? We see it, we fall into old patterns. We start judging the crap out of ourselves. It might last. But here's a special thing, Brad. And for anyone listening, five years ago, it might have lasted a day where we were in this really bad place. And in that place, we're not creating, we're not moving forward. We're not abundant, we're not connected. We're not connecting people. We're not giving. We're not of service. None of those things. We're just very. We're closed off. We're like a. An animal that's. That's going to be attacked. Everything just gets in protective mode, right? The agave planet has these. These intense protective mechanisms because it only has one shot. And if you mess with that plant, it's done. So it has these huge spikes coming out. It's beautiful. But, but the moment that we, that we just allow ourselves, that we just. The moment that we allow ourselves the awareness, then we can shift that one data 20 minutes. Maybe it's a half day, maybe it's one minute, maybe you just shift out of it right now. And the more just going back to what we talked earlier, the more that we can live in the emotional states that are serving us and the people around us, man, that's the name of the game. So it's never going to be perfect, but we can collapse the time that we're going down the wrong road and pivot towards where we want to go.
And I think I'll just kind of ground this for people listening in the work that they're doing. Right?
Yeah.
I noticed lately that I was getting really tired of working with clients. And not every client, not all the time, but there were certain clients where I was just like, I can't keep having the same conversation with you over and over and over again. And you don't take action. And you blame me because you didn't take action. Why am I getting results? Well, I haven't. I don't live your life for you. I'm sorry, 247 been there. We come out of an hour long conversation. You have action items, you don't complete those action items. I don't know what that hell to tell you. I earned my money at that point.
And then next week I come back, Brad, I'm going to come back and I'm going to say I'm frustrated, man. Why are you frustrated? Well. And we're just going to repeat the cycle, right?
Yeah. And it's sad. And I want to help those people. I don't know that I have the tools to do so because I can't. Everybody has free will, right.
And that's what I call readiness.
Yeah.
And it's very underrated. In coaching and consulting, it's like you can be ready is either 100 or 0. Like I'm sorry, like if you're 90% ready. And this has been a big thing for me, like people used to refer clients to me. And I realized as much as I love that people are sending, send me potential clients for what I do, you have to raise your hand. Now someone might be able to nudge you a little bit. But I need you ready. And ready means that you're open. And I actually, when I say ready, my palms start to open. Right now my shoulders are back and my palms are open. Why? Because ready means surrender. And so if I'm working with Brad Hart and I am ready, dude, you will. I'll become the most coachable person on the planet. You tell me what to do, and I'm going to do it right now. Why? Because that's what I'm here for. So anything less is a disservice to me. It's a disservice to you and to the energy and the beautiful energy of what a coaching mentee trainee relationship looks like. So I completely get it. But I did. I did stop you halfway.
So just to put a, you know, kind of a lesson on that, is that it's the model, right? It's the model.
It's the model. It's the model.
So either you do one or two things, and we've seen people go both ways. You see people who coach or consult or mentor, whatever they do, charge more money and work with less people. That's one model. I want to go bigger for more people. So I'm going to do mass market. I'm going to be putting everything I know in a book. I'm going to be making sure people have support that they need with online courses. I want to make sure that they have coaching. If they need it, I can refer out. Right. I just. It's not for me. I want to impact at a larger level, and I want to create the space for people to thrive in that community and not be the bottleneck through which anything needs to pass. I don't need to be the catalyst of any transformation because I'm not Tony fucking Robbins. You know, I'm just not. I'm not a guy who can stand on stage and do it for 40 years and can create that. I can bring 50 people at a time, those events and that. That work. That works. But it's a labor of love and, you know, Tony, sort them out. But what I do great is putting the right people in the right places to do the right things at the right time.
So that distinction you made, how did you have that awareness? Was it just a matter of, like, this energy, this heaviness that you were getting around this with regard to client work?
Yeah, I was just getting so frustrated because I would have 9, 10, 15, 20 wins, and it would be going well for a while. And I'm like, okay, cool, we can add more to this puzzle. And then I would turn around and the plates would start crashing around me. And then all of a sudden, I just wasn't getting the, you know, I just wasn't. I wasn't getting the enjoyment. I was out of it before. And, you know, it's like, it's nothing against my clients. I mean, they are wonderful people.
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Well served. With a different methodology.
Yeah.
You know, or, you know, and if we can't unfortunately come to a conclusion where it's like, I don't ever tell anybody what to do, I walk into getting them to a place where it's like, okay, here is the space that we've created this decision. Here are the action steps. Here's the accountability. Here's the expectation of when this will be completed by and how we keep moving in this direction. But then, unfortunately, I. Again, I'm not following them around. So unless they're willing to commit to that and when they commit to get results, when they send me their index card every day I do that with my clients actually have an index card. Hey, the three to five things you're going to tackle today, send it to me in the morning, rip it up. At the end of the day, send me the photo of it ripped up. That's how I keep you accountable, is just making sure. And I'll ask questions along the way and make sure you're dialed in. But, you know, I can't be everywhere at once, so.
Exactly.
That's kind of where I started to diverge from that. I feel like I can help a lot more people through a scaled model.
Beautiful.
And to bring in more people than just me to service that model. And it's scary, right, to give up one income stream to build another. But I really felt like it was time. And as much as I loved this journey, I feel like I'm going to work with less people one on one. I'm going to work with less people in masterminds. I'm going to do less face time with clients. I'm going to build bigger and more leveraged systems and bring in the people to serve them that really are there and have the time and the bandwidth to. To be there and not have to slow down the bus every time somebody gets jammed up.
Exactly, exactly. And that's a powerful. That's such a powerful distinction.
Yeah. So, Tommy, you know, can you tell people a little bit about what you're working on? The way I frame this is, you know, we're the Make More Marvels podcast. We're not here to compete with anybody or here collaborate together to win more. And one of the ways we do that is we connect people with the resources, the opportunities, the people and the systems that they need to move their mission forward faster. So how can we do that for you?
Absolutely. So, you know, obviously I have a podcast as well. It's called the Resist Average Academy Podcast. And we like just having kind of like just, just like this, just deep and real conversations. There's no script. We go super deep and give people the, the awareness, the perspective, and then also the, the practicality to design a life on their terms, whatever that means for them. And we do deep topics on spirituality, entrepreneurship, goal setting and all of that stuff. And so that's one of my big portals. And then also my new book which is coming out, which is, you know, will be coming out here in a couple weeks and my second book and just very excited to share. And the whole ethos of the book is exactly what we talked about. Falling in love with the process. I want to help people place their self esteem and their identity around the daily process, not the outcome. Because when we do that, we live a fulfilled life. And then when we get the outcome, it doesn't own us, we own it. And it just becomes a physical representation of the value that we've created for ourselves and the people around us. And that's what I'm about.
I love it, Tommy, and thank you for serving the way you do and thank you for being a constant reminder that I'm on the right damn track. You know, we're working in this kind of parallel space where, you know, we do a lot of client work and things like that. It's not what I always wanted to do when I grew up, but it was the best highest good I could do right now, I feel. And I just want to continue to expand that. I know you feel the same way and we're both messengers out there increasing the reach of our message. So I appreciate your brother and it's great to walk this path with you.
Right back to you, man. And I just want to give you some acknowledgement, man. You've delivered so much value even in your just, just the way that you post and the value that you give people. And then you're just a brilliant connector, man. So deep appreciation for what you do and the path that you've set and who you're, who you're being. Thank you, Tommy. Thank you.
And how are people reach out if they need to get in touch with you?
Yeah, resistavverageacademy.com is the best place. The podcast is on there and then some of the other portals and programs and stuff that, that we're doing. But I'd love to connect. And if you did listen to this episode, hit me up and let Brad and I know what was your One Big rock is what I call one big rock, one big distinction, and most importantly, how you integrated into your life.
Right on. And you can check out my episode that was on Tommy's podcast. It was last year now.
God, yes.
That should be somewhere. I'm sure there's a link.
Yeah, episode, man, last year. I'd have to dig it up, but somewhere in the 60s, I believe.
Nice.
Right on.
Yeah, check it out on resistavgacademy.com thank you so much, Tommy, for being here on behalf of everybody in the Make More Marvel's Multiverse. You're a rock star. Appreciate it.
