Grand Prix dressage trainer Brett Parbery explains why equipment only works when the rider knows how to use it. He breaks down the sequence: start with the lightest aid like a calf pressure, escalate if needed to spur or whip, then release immediately when the horse responds. Spurs and draw reins can help or harm depending on how often and how skillfully you use them.
