14 Oct 2022 · 10 min
Brian Karr explains why empathy matters when helping people with mold, Lyme, or autoimmune conditions. He compares bodies to cars to show healing requires multiple fixes, not one magic solution, and says to tackle the biggest problems first, like removing exposure, before spending money on other treatments.

Hello again, everyone, and welcome to today's show. If you're one of the 130 million people that are dealing with Sirs Lyme disease, autoimmune disease, or other conditions that are impacted by mold on a daily basis, and you need to learn how to eliminate that exposure, then you're in the right place. My name is Brian Carr, and you're listening to Mold Finders Radio.
Hey, guys. So why does empathy matter? It has to matter. Empathy has to be the most important thing that you have as a person, helping other people, right? And I think that's the big thing. It's about helping other people, right? So listen, if you're going to surround yourself with contractors or dentists or doctors or whoever, and they're not empathetic to your situation, then they're not going to do the best job for you, right? Because they don't feel the stakes that you feel. See, the thing about empathy and what makes it so awesome and what makes it such a core value for our entire company and for me as a whole, is that when you're empathetic, you now are invested in the, in the health, in the success of, of the person that you're working with, right? Like. Like whatever happens for them, happens for you because you are tied to them. Empathy is essentially tying you to the result that you want to give for somebody, right? You have to have empathy. You can't. You can't run a business and only care about bottom line, because if you do, you're going to take shortcuts that are going to make bottom line better, and you can't do that. The thing about the way that we go about stuff, the way that I've always thought about going about things and the way that I instill it in my team is if we miss something, the stakes are astronomically high, right? The stakes are incredibly high. It's. It's not like I'm, you know, just, I don't know, a plumber coming out, and if I accidentally, you know, don't hook something up, right, Then I just come back up and hook it up, right? Like, that's not what it is. If we go in and we don't do our job the best way that we could do our job, then somebody is going to stay safe. Sick, they're not going to get better. They're going to think that they did what they were supposed to do. So not only are they not going to get better, they're actually going to get more sick. And then on top of it, they're going to lose time because they think they handled it the right way. And they're going to lose money because they spent money to get something done and it wasn't totally done. So time and money, obviously are not things that people want to lose, but the health component of it, this is the most important thing for somebody who is going down this path to. This is why empathy has to be the number one thing. Yes, I could teach anybody how to go through a house and find in a mold. I can. I can literally teach anybody how to do it. I've taught homeowners to do it virtually from behind my computer to the point where they found 30 things that were hidden in their house strictly by asking me a couple questions and me giving them some training stuff. Right? I can teach anybody how to do this stuff. What you can't teach is the caring component. What you can't teach is empathy. What you can't teach is when you are given a task or you're given a job or you're given a responsibility, that you're not only looking at it as this binary thing, but you're understanding the impact that it has on everyone else that it surrounds. And that is what your driving force is, right? If that is your North Star, if that is your driving force, if the understanding of the world around you and the little impact that you have, the ripple effect that you have on the world around you and making sure that little things that you do don't alter those ripples on the way out. So they do. They work the way that they're supposed to. That's how. That's how people get better. That's how we succeed. That's how you succeed. And honestly, that's how our business grows. And that's how I want to do it, right? And it's all about. It's all about who you serve. So if I'm sir. Or what you serve, if I'm serving my bottom line, then I'm not serving the people that are actually driving the bottom line. You know what I mean? You have to serve people. If you serve people, your bottom line will always figure itself out. That's. That's been a lesson I learned from my mentor from the beginning, is if you just take care of people the way that you're supposed to, you don't ever have to worry about anything else because it will all fall into line. Right? And that's what's so important. That's what I instill in my team. Empathy is the number one thing that we look for when we are looking to bring people on our team because again, I could train them in anything. I can't train somebody to care about people. People.
So I'm sitting in like bumper to bumper traffic on my way into the office and I was just thinking about cars for some reason. You know, it's funny, you turn off a radio and all of a sudden your podcast and your mind actually starts thinking. It's pretty amazing. Anyways, I got this idea, you know, mean analogies, like try to figure out ways to like make things resonate, right? I was thinking about cars, I'm looking at cars, I'm thinking about people on their, on their health journeys and all this stuff. And, and just starting to think about all the different things that people are told to do in order, you know, in order to get better, in order to start functioning better, right? In order to start working better. And a lot of the things that are out there, I was thinking like these, these to do lists, like the three things you need to do in order for your body to, to detox and the three things that you need to do and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right? The one thing that you need this, whatever. You know, you're talking infrared saunas, you're talking red light, you're talking grounding, you're talking binders, you're talking all this stuff, right? Do these things. Our body is this complex machine like a car, right? You need to do more than one or two things for your car to work properly. Think of it, your car needs more than oil. Just does your car needs more than oil? Does your car need oil to work properly? Yes. Is oil the only thing that your car needs to work properly? No. And that's the thing that I think a lot of us get caught up in when we're deep dive in the Internet and social media and trying to find the answers and all this stuff is it's not as simple as reading a five line post and saying, oh, if I do these three things, I'm going to get better. You're not. Because there's so many other things that go into the functionality of your machine. Of you, of the person. Right? Does sauna help? Sure. Does red light help? Yeah. Does all the. Do these things help? Yeah. Do I do these things? I do pretty much all of them.
Do. Do I still have issues I'm working through because of my exposures? Yes. Are all of those things the magic bullet that's fixing it? No. So what, what, what I, what I think that we all need to realize is that there isn't one thing, we are this complex machine, and there are little tweaks that you make to your. To machines in order to keep them functioning properly. And when a machine gets really out of whack, you need bigger repairs first, and then after the repairs, you then need to be continuing to make tweaks. These aren't things that happen like that, right? They don't happen like that, unfortunately. I mean, I wish it did. And even on my end, so many of the doctors and the health coaches and the practitioners, they will tell you that the first thing that you have to do if you want to heal from mold, you got to get out of the moldy space, whether it's finding it, remediate it, moving, whatever. So, yes, that's one of the things that you need to do. Is that the only thing that you're going to need to do? No. Will anything else work if you don't do that? Probably not. Right? But the, the idea that if we do the one thing and we see immediate change, that's unfortunately not the way the world works. And you know, with, with how we consume information and just social media and everything these days, it's flip, flip, flip. It's fast graphics, fast graphics. Our. Our need for media gratification is just more and more and more and more and more. And because of that, it's like, well, I'm going to do this and I'm going to get better. Listen, guys, I'm going to tell you right now, a lot of you, even if you have us come in and we find everything that's going on and you fix all of it, you're not going to feel better right away, but you're going to have made the major repairs that are needed in order to then start tweaking and optimizing your machine, your body. Right? Can a car run without oil? No. The whole thing will just lock up and catch on fire. Literally happened to me. I was in high school. I. I was driving my car. My dad's like, hey, listen, if there's nothing else that you take out of this conversation that we're having right now, when I give you the keys to your car, make sure that you finish. That you finish. Make sure that you put oil in your car. If you don't put oil in your car, it's going to explode. I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then, of course, life happens and, and I didn't do all of it, and my car caught on fire when I was driving it. Right. So kids, put oil in your cars when your parents Tell you to. Anyways, the point of that is you do need certain foundational, functional things in order for your body to work properly, in order for it to heal properly. One of those is obviously not being in the space that has all the toxins in it that's causing you to be sick in the first place. But just keep in mind, guys, your body needs more than one thing to thrive, right? Your car needs more than one thing to thrive.
In general, we need more than one thing to thrive as people. All right, Just kind of keep that in mind. You're taking steps. What you want to do is you want to focus on the highest leverage step that you can take. What does that mean? What is the one thing that I can do is going to have the biggest impact on my overall goal? If we're talking about healing, what's the one thing that I can do is get biggest overall impact on my healing? Is it going to be to buy a three thousand dollar infrared sauna or is it going to be to figure out my exposure component so I'm not being exposed anymore? You go to the thing that's going to give you the most leverage, the most impact, the biggest bang for your buck. You do that first and you work your way down. Make the list. Make the list from most importance to least important. And if you have to ask your question, what's the most important? The most important is what is the thing that's going to have the biggest impact on the goal that I'm trying to get? If you're trying to get healthy, what is the one thing that, that is going to have the greatest impact on me getting healthy? Is it doing sauna? Is it doing red light? Is it doing.
Gosh, I totally forgot what they're called and I haven't done them yet. Whatever. Is it, is it taking a binder or is it not breathing in, in your 20,000 breaths that you take every day? Toxic stuff that your body is continuously falling behind? All right. It's a lot. It's a lot that I just threw out there.
So that's it for today's show, everyone. Thanks so much for tuning in. If you enjoyed the show, please take a moment, subscribe and give a rating wherever you get your podcasts. It'll help spread the word to those who really need it the most.
