This is a YouTube video titled "A Guide to Changing Negative Thoughts" featuring Beverley Simpson speaking about techniques to acknowledge and process negative thoughts by examining their root causes and challenging them with evidence. The content is a monologue or talk focused on mental health and cognitive reframing, recorded in February 2025.
Acknowledge that the thought in the feeling is there. Okay? That's like, you have to process it, otherwise you're just going to keep pressing, pressing it down. You have to acknowledge it's there. And then what I like to do is, I like to ask myself, like, well, what's causing me to say that? Like, what is. Why do I think this? Where's the issue? Can I get to the root? And I start, like, really listing it out. Like, what are all the reasons? Like, well, there are coaches that, you know, a person really does. It doesn't make sense to have two trainers or whatever the issues are. Like, there's. There's a reason I have this thought. What are they then? In order to shift it, I have to, like, really make a case for it. I have to be a lawyer against this. These reasons as to why this is not true. And it's not enough to say that's not true. You have to show your brain that it's not true and then back up the claim, like, with evidence stacking. And so part of it is I had to, you know, look at. I had to look at it a couple things, a couple of ways in order to shift this perspective.
