This is a YouTube video titled "Aging well as a skill" featuring Beverley Simpson discussing the importance of living longer and healthier lives through cardiovascular and strength training to maintain mobility, muscle mass, and overall health as one ages. The content is a monologue or talk focused on health and aging, recorded in October 2023.
So not only do you want to live longer, but you want to live healthier longer. And when you think about, you think about, like, you've got a competitive athlete, their goal is to win games, and then you have, like, if you think of an Asian athlete, their goal is to be able to do as many tasks as possible for as long as possible so that they can live a life that they enjoy. So you look at the things that kill people, right? Cardiovascular disease, number one. So when you train the cardiovascular system, right, heart disease, that's one thing you're attacking. But then as you get older, people will fall, they break their hips, they can't pick their kids up, they can't walk up and down the stairs, whether it's a mobility issue or a strength issue. And then lean muscle mass really starts to decline as you age. So doing strength training to keep that increase your strength and lean muscle mass, and then hold onto it as long as you can, and then cardiovascular training to make sure that you're aerobically and metabolically healthy, to live just a long, full life. That's how I like to frame it to my, like, clients that are just interested in living healthier lives, you know.
