A personal reflection on managing risk and fear through planning rather than blind leaps. The speaker emphasizes how feeling safe comes from mitigating strategies and understanding your own comfort zone, not from avoiding risk altogether.
But for me, I know about myself, that in order for me to take a scary risk, something that's going to go outside of my comfort zone, in order for me to feel safe, in order for my parasympathetic nervous system to be calm, I need to mitigate risk. And I need to mitigate risk knowing that, like, well, if this happens, I'm going to do this. If this happens, I'm going to do this. If this happens, I'm going to figure it out. I am not the burn the boat. I am not the jump and the net will appear. That is not who I am. And I'm okay with that. So I want to encourage and invite all of you when you're making decisions to know that, okay, I this is the type of person I am. This is what makes me feel safe.
