This is a YouTube video titled "Empowering Women in Sport Navigating Hormone Cycles and Confidence" created in April 2025. The content features a speaker discussing the importance of considering hormone cycles and mental aspects when programming workouts for women, addressing confidence and injury prevention in male-dominated sports like rugby. The speaker emphasizes tailored support and physiological differences to empower female athletes.
When I'm programming for a woman versus a man, I will take into account the hormone cycle, for example. So I will ask them to track it. And not in terms of anything in too detailed. I just want to know how they feel on every single day. Because even I wouldn't necessarily adjust the workout. But what's really important is to be able to see when the workout might feel harder so that when it happens, you, you don't get in your own head and go, why am I so. Why is this so crap? Like, why am I totally so weak? Why is this? Because that's what I did for ages. I was just like, if you have an off day and you blame yourself and then it becomes this cycle of like, when I can't do anything and I'm not strong enough and whatever. So for me, the mental aspect of the hormone cycle as well as the physical is really, really important for women. Confidence and support when you're in a really, really male dominated sport, thought it can be really intimidating to turn up to rugby clubs and places. So I always try and find. And then also within the programming itself, I will look at areas where women are more likely to be injured, where we're slightly weaker in general due to our physiology, and just make sure that we really focus on those areas.
