Sitting in this room with all these men and women in our chairs with our therapist. And every day we'd have to check in. We'd look around the top of the room, and there were literally feeling pictures like in kindergarten. Sad, happy. And she would ask us what each of us were feeling in that moment. And we had to go beyond fine, which was a standard emotion for high achiever. I'm fine. The inflection would change. I'm fine. I'm fine. Change the inflection. But we actually had to start to tune into our emotions. And we have a massive array of emotions that we're able to experience as humans. And that was really the start of getting out of my head and into my body, around what am I feeling in this moment? And allowing myself to pause. Well, this is frustration and understanding. Of course I feel frustrated. This, this, and this didn't happen. And then the next step is to just say, what can I do in this moment to support myself feeling better? So I used to drown in an anxiety, and I didn't even know I was drowning in anxiety until I started doing this practice. And it was like two, three times a day. I would just check in and say, lisa, how are you feeling? And I would realize, oh, I'm feeling really anxious. You know that anxious feeling? It's like, yes. And then I would have to learn how to talk myself off the ledge, because the anxious feeling was the part of me that was like, you have things to do. Like, you should be busy. And I was learning how to slow down, right? I was unraveling this overachiever's addiction that I had. And I would have to say to myself, like, there's nothing to do in this moment, Lisa. Like, you have your to do list. Just start ticking things off. But there's no need to feel anxiety. And I had to ask that part of me to just simmer down. But that anxiety was running the show in my life. It was driving everything. So until I learned how to feel it, I couldn't release it.
