This is a YouTube video titled "How do you help high achievers get real" containing a monologue by Beverley Simpson recorded in May 2024. Beverley discusses common misconceptions high achievers have about motivation and willpower, and explains how her program uses reflective exercises on roles, expectations, and family dynamics to help participants gain deeper self-understanding and address disordered behaviors.
Right. So when people walk into our program, they oftentimes think things like, I just am not trying hard enough. I don't have motivation. I lack willpower. Those are what they believe they're conscious to. It's not until we educate them. And one of the things that stands out to me that really solidifies this to them is our reflection called your roles and expectations. And we walk them through a variety of different behaviors, around food that are all disordered, around exercise that are all disordered, and around self worth rules that they have for themselves. And it's a very much an aha moment. We also do that in our family dynamics reflection, where we say, how were you seen and heard as a child? What were you criticized for? What were you praised for? And through these types of reflections, they are getting better understanding of, oh, those are the nuanced things.
