Powerlifting is a huge part of my life and still is to this day, despite not being actively competitive in it anymore. But it's just a part of my life. It's not who I am. And I think the people who are only ever good at it because they're good at it and they're genetically blessed to be good at it never have to go through the struggle of losing that, or if they do, they never come back to it. You know, I could sit here and name 100 Australian powerlifters who are going to be the best in the world who disappeared after two years because they were good at the sport until they hit that first road bump. And if you can't get through that first road bump yourself, then you're never going to be able to help anyone actually get through it in a coaching setting either. I think that's the real beauty in the lesson. And if you've never had to go through that, then being a good coach for anyone other than someone just like you is really hard.
