A coach questions whether looking fit is what makes you a good coach. The speaker admits he hasn't been prioritizing his own health lately, and explores why appearance and actual coaching skill don't always line up.
I've shared before, the look of a body is not a measurement of health, but as a fitness professional, it is not a measurement of skill, nor is it your business card. And yet myself and dozens of both male and female trainers struggle whether they're shredded or not from feelings of I'm too severe, no one wants to look like me, to feeling like I don't look the part, will look the part compared to what? And how will you know when you do? Because I know when I'm looking for a professional like to give birth. I'm not going to hire a mom because she's had a baby. My doctor is going to be a seasoned professional and it doesn't even matter if they are a parent or not. There is nuance here, which is I still want my professional to be practicing. So it's not about how you look, but I do want you to practice what you preach. And for me, in 2020 and 2021, I have not been prioritizing my health, which I'm confessing to change today.
