This is a YouTube video titled "Overcoming Shame: Techniques to Manage Your Emotions Effectively" featuring Beverley Simpson speaking about emotional self-regulation, specifically managing feelings of shame by nurturing the inner child and practicing self-care foundations such as addressing hunger, anger, loneliness, and tiredness. The content is a monologue focused on emotional health and self-management techniques.
There's so many things that go into being able to manage our emotions. You've probably heard me talk about fault before. Hungry, angry, lonely, tired. Right? Like the foundations of self care that need to be there so that we can better regulate ourselves. And even for you, like paying attention to what does shame feel like in your body and can you move yourself out of that feeling of shame versus like disappearing into it? Right. I really know when I'm in that, I can feel it so deeply in my body. And my job when I'm in that place of shame is to have the adult version of me show up, wrap my arms around that shameful little child because it's, you know, she's about five. When I go into my shame, I'm probably about five and just say like, I've got you, like there's nothing wrong with you. And I would practice, I would practice allowing shame to come in so that I could practice managing it and moving myself through it and out of it. So that's what I mean about, you know, you asked earlier about how do we not stay in our emotions. You get intimate with them and then you learn how to manage them like children who need your care and attention. And that's how you'll never get trapped in them. That's really what it takes to free yourself.
