This is a YouTube video titled "PCOS Explained: How to Recognize the Signs of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome" containing a monologue by Beverley Simpson recorded in 2025. Beverley explains the symptoms, diagnosis criteria, and common misconceptions about PCOS, providing educational health information.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is what PCOS stands for. It is becoming more and more widely popular. If you go to the gynecologist and you get tested, a lot of women will think that they have PCOS or assume they do because we have irregular periods. We have maybe some like hair thinning and then hair growth in other places that, you know, we don't want like chin face, that's from high testosterone, acne, just having a really difficult time. So like the way that doctors will diagnose this is the Rotterdam criteria, which means hyperandrogenism. So like high testosterone, like we spoke about, no ovulation or just random ovulation. So you could go like three or four months without a period. They're just like random irregular cycles. And then when they do an ultrasound, you will have usually like a bunch of cysts in your ovaries. So cystic. You know, there are PCOS cases where women haven't had cysts, but majority of the time they have cystic ovaries.
