This is a YouTube video titled "The power of habit" containing a monologue by Beverley Simpson recorded on September 25, 2023. Beverley discusses the cognitive effort involved in forming new habits, the importance of focusing on emotionally significant goals, and the role of habit science and goal setting in behavior change.
But there, especially when habits are new, less than a year old, there's always has to be some sort of cognitive oversight. There always has to be the thought in the head that, hey, I still need to go do this. The brain consumes the most energy out of any other organ. So, yeah, it takes a lot of energy. It takes a lot of willpower. It can be exhausting. But like we said earlier, we don't want it to be overwhelming. Sometimes people have three different things they need to address. But right now, we're just going to work on the most important, the most emotionally charging topic. So, based on who that person is, based on what their experience is, with changing habits and breaking and making new ones, it's going to vary a little bit. But ultimately, habit science is really helpful, and goal setting is really what I look to use.
