This is a YouTube video titled "The power of shifting behavior" containing a monologue or talk recorded on September 2, 2023, discussing the importance of measuring behavioral changes rather than just physical metrics like weight loss. The speaker emphasizes self-awareness and personal development in managing stress and decision-making. There is only one speaker present, and no mention of Beverley Simpson.
And so if you want to talk about how long does it take for someone to start seeing changes, we have to also get clear on what are we measuring, because a lot of people, and again, for simplicity sake, people will look at the scale when it comes to weight loss, right? But they don't look at well. Typically I would have coped with eating something that didn't serve me at night because I'm stressed out and I don't know how else to use a creative outlet for myself that benefits my personal development. Right? But people don't focus on behavior as a metric. They just go, well, the scale didn't go down and I didn't eat dessert last night when I was upset, so I'm just going to keep eating dessert because I didn't see the scale go down today. Like, that is not a realistic metric. Right. And logically, that sounds absolutely crazy, but subconsciously, that's what people do. It's so true. And so you have to go, okay, I need to take account of how is my behavior shifting? How are my thought patterns shifting? What things am I bringing to the front? So I am consciously aware of the decisions that I am driven to make versus the ones that I say no. That is a boundary of self respect.
