This is a YouTube video titled "The psychology of podcast art" containing a monologue by Beverley Simpson recorded on December 14, 2023. Beverley discusses the visual design choices in podcast artwork, using Amy Porterfield's marketing podcast as an example to highlight the use of color and branding in top podcast shows.
Again, back to Amy Porterfield. She does this really well. Whether she's aware of this or not, I don't know. But she's the perfect example, because if you go to the marketing category in podcasts and you were to take a screenshot of the top 10 shows in that category where Amy is hovering at any given time, and if you were to swing your eyes and look at all those little thumbnails, you would notice a couple of really important things. And the first thing you would notice is that most of the colors that are used in the COVID art on those top 10 shows are really warm, bright colors. You see a lot of oranges. You see a lot of reds. There's yellows. They're bright. They're neon. They're kind of bold. And you'll also notice some deeper colors like navy and black. Amy did the complete opposite. Her artwork, not only does it speak to the vibe of her podcast, which is online marketing made easily easy, the background of her art is light gray.
