This is a YouTube video titled "Training for long life and aging" containing a discussion between two speakers about health, aging well, and strategies to improve lifespan and health span, focusing on cardiovascular health and maintaining muscle mass as one ages. The speakers explore the importance of living a longer, healthier life and the challenges related to aging such as mobility and strength decline.
So you were talking a little bit about aging well as a skill. Can you unpack that a little bit?
Yeah. So I've been really interested in, like, health and aging. If you look at some of the big things that keep us from, you've got basically lifespan and then health span. So you could live a long time. But if you live a long time and you're unhealthy, like, that's just a bad existence. So not only do you want to live longer, but you want to live healthier longer. And when you think about, you think about, like, you've got a competitive athlete, their goal is to win games. And then you have, like, if you think of an Asian athlete, their goal is to be able to do as many tasks as possible for as long as possible so they can live a life that they enjoy. So you look at the things that kill people, right? Cardiovascular disease, number one. So when you train the cardiovascular system, right, heart disease, that's one thing you're attacking. But then as you get older, people will fall, they break their hips, they can't pick their kids up, they can't walk up and down the stairs, whether it's a mobility issue or a strength issue. And then lean muscle mass really starts to decline as you age.
