This is a YouTube video titled "Understanding Power skills with Ali Kershner of The Art of Coaching" containing an English conversation recorded on October 24, 2022. The excerpt features Beverley Simpson engaging in a discussion about the concept of differential learning and its application in coaching practices, highlighting the idea of repetition without repetition in sports training.
You mentioned the model of differential learning. Can you expand on that? What does that look like and how have you built that into your coaching practice? Yeah, so I think the simplest way to describe differential learning and it's a very deep, complex set of we'll just, we'll just leave it. It's much deeper than this. But I will say the idea is repetition without repetition. So for example because in sport you're not ever going to run, cut, jump, kick, punch exactly the same way. You can't. It's the same idea of, you know, agility is not just running around cones. It's being able to react to the conditions and the context as it happens. So while those drills are great for fundamental understanding of the movement and essential. Right. Like I'm not just going to throw an athlete in there and be like, okay, every squat you do is going to be different with an athlete with that basic level of understanding who's shown a certain level.
