This is a YouTube video titled "Unlocking Conversational Confidence: A Guide for Speakers and Podcasters" containing a monologue by Beverley Simpson recorded in March 2025. Beverley shares insights on developing interactive and conversational speaking skills for podcasts and public speaking, emphasizing the value of being comfortable with spontaneous responses rather than memorization.
No matter what format you're in, podcast or whatever, I like to have it interactive and conversational, as opposed to lecturing and authoritative. Does that make sense? Perfect sense. So as to the actual skill, I think if you get comfortable responding to questions and talking and being able to work from a knowledge base and freely flow with thinking. Like, for example, when I come on a podcast, I do not want notes or any idea what the questions are going to be. I. I like responding to the questions and that over time you get much better at it. And that's a valuable skill. Great. When you go on stage, you want to be really prepared. You know your material, but you don't want to memorize to the point where you're trying to actually memorize and recite the flow. Exactly. You just want to know your materials really well so you can riff. Can't count the number of times it's something over the course of the weekend after the slides prepare, pops into my mind, and I actually weave that aspect into some sort of story on stage because I know the material to riff on.
