Am I Tired of Marketing to “friends”...

Cameron Herold responds to a social-media question about whether he's tired of marketing to "friends." He distinguishes true personal friends (whom he doesn't market to) from broader social-media connections and business acquaintances. He argues it's appropriate to promote genuinely useful products and services to business contacts, cites his COO alliance (high NPS, notable company members) and his 'Invest in Your Leaders' course (priced at $597) as examples, and invites viewers to a Clubhouse room at 3:00 PM Pacific. He expresses frustration at entrepreneurs repeating avoidable mistakes and urges sharing valuable solutions.

So I was just asked a question a couple days ago on social media and I posted something in a group about my new course, the invest in your leaders course. And I was asked by someone if I was tired of marketing to friends on social media. And I guess they were kind of saying like, you know, stop marketing to us. First off, no, I'm actually not tired of marketing to friends on social media because the reality is of the 5,000 people that are, you know, a friend on Facebook, I've probably added 150 of those. The other 4850 people are people that added me after seeing me on, you know, social media or seeing me on a stage or hearing about me on a podcast, etc. So they're not really friends. They're just, they're business people that know me or that maybe I've met once or maybe I've met them a couple times. But you know, my friends I don't market to. My friends are my friends, you know, business people that I've met over the years are potential clients. And the reason I'm not tired of marketing to people is I market to people who I think need my products or my services. I'll give you an example on this. What I'm more tired of is watching entrepreneurs work harder than they need to work. I'm more tired of watching entrepreneurs make the mistakes for things that there's already simple solutions for. So I'm more tired of listening to entrepreneurs complain about how hard business is when there's an easier way. So I watch entrepreneurs working so hard and making the mistakes that I've seen over and over again. And me talking about stuff like my investing or leaders course or a clubhouse room that I'm doing this afternoon as an example at 3:00 clock Pacific, or the books that I'm putting out, et cetera. Or my CO alliance is me actually being excited about products and services that I have that are solutions to real issues that really exist. And I get really high net promoter scores on my stuff. So am I tired of marketing my, let's say my COO alliance to people? No. I have a positive 86 net promoter score on the CO alliance. I have companies that are running $1.2 billion in revenue, like Sunbrella are members. I've got the biggest Domino's franchisee in North America is a member. I've got the COO from thinkific. They're just getting ready to go public as a member. I've got some really big brands that are members of the CEO alliance that are getting great results from being a member. Am I tired of talking about that to friends on social media? Fuck no. I'm actually excited about it because I know I can actually help their products or their businesses. Now my friends, like my real friends, like you know, Christopher Bennett or Val Steinberg or Rob Hunt, I'm not marketing to them or if they see my stuff on social media, they just skip over it anyway because they know I'm not talking to them. I'm talking to entrepreneurs and employees or leaders of companies that probably could use my product or service. So no, I'm actually not tired of talking about it. I'm tired of watching entrepreneurs make the mistakes over and over again and complaining how hard business is. What's interesting is when I actually did this one post that the person asked about, it was in a group of former EO and EO members, but it was a place that an EO marketplace where you're allowed to market to each other because EO and YPO have a non solicitation agreement where we don't solicit each other's businesses, which is great. So we don't actually go into an EO group and market our services to each other so that we don't feel like we're being sold. This is a group expressly where you're supposed to share with each other. And he didn't like me sharing. So totally cool. People can unfollow me if they think that I, I market too much. But no, I really don't feel bad about marketing my stuff. I think that if you have a product or service that you feel is valuable, you should actually be out there talking about it. You should be out there promoting it, you should be sharing it and you should be listening to your audience. So you know, yeah, I wouldn't be going into a cocktail party or a dinner party with friends of mine and talking about my products or services. In fact, I almost never talk about my business with my friends because they're my friends. We talk about friend stuff. But social media for me, sadly, social media has become a marketing place where I can follow up with what my friends are doing or other business associates that I like and I'm friends with other business people to see what they're doing in their business. But social media for me is a marketing channel, a very valid marketing channel that I can share my products or services to help other businesses. And I often see entrepreneurs almost like flies trying to work hard and they're going to bang their head on a window like flies banging head on the window and they end up dead on the windowsill. But there's an easier path. So what I was talking about was my invest in your leaders course. And I've always believed that if you grow your people, they'll grow your business. And, and if people aren't willing to invest $597 to have their manager go through this course, they're missing a huge opportunity because the upside is massive. So, no, I'm not tired of marketing to my friends. I'm actually tired of watching my friends work so hard when they didn't really have to. I think there's an opportunity for my friends and business associates to find the easier way, the shortcuts, the paths of least resistance to be more successful. Which is why I've probably got the platform that I've been able to have over the years, is because of the success that I've had with so many brands that I've been able to help. Anyway, that being said, if you're watching this today, I am running a Clubhouse room this afternoon for two hours. And if you just search up my name on Clubhouse, you'll see it there. Or if you put a comment down, I can DM you or DM me. I can give you the room number. It's at 3pm Pacific time on Clubhouse where we're going to be sharing more tips and resources for people that want to learn on how to grow their company. So hope that's helpful for all of you and hopefully you are out there shouting from the rooftops if your product or service can help people as well.
