A CEO inverts the org chart, sitting at the base to develop VPs and managers instead of directing them. The model relies on shared vision and values, coaching over commands, and lets each business unit hire its own people with training to spot the right candidates.

It was very much an upside down or an inverted org chart where the CEO and CEO were at the bottom, growing the VPs, growing the directors, growing the managers, growing the people and supporting our customers. And we could all see the vivid vision. And on each side of the inverted pyramid was our core values and our core purpose. I wasn't telling people what to do. I was showing them how to get there and then coaching them, growing their skills, growing their confidence, growing their connections. We just didn't want HR to come in and run a process when we believed that each individual business area knew best of what they were looking for. But then we had to give them the skill sets to understand how to find it and how to prove that they were hiring the right people.
