A short excerpt from a YouTube interview titled "The Surprising Truth About Remote Work | Brett Bruggeman" (uploaded by Cameron Herold). The speakers debate remote vs. in-office work: face-to-face meetings enable non-verbal cues and better learning for new employees and interns, while virtual tools (Teams/Zoom) are effective for many tasks. The excerpt emphasizes hybrid balance and family/work-life considerations.
In this type of environment, having the face to face conversations, being in the meeting room gives us that opportunity to interact with each other and see the non verbals in those pieces at the same time. The virtual part on teams and Zoom have been highly effective, so we feel both are affected. But we know that the face to face to be all one way or another doesn't fit us.
I think you get truth from kids and you get truth from like the 95 year olds. Right. And one of my kids, 22, runs his own business. He was trying to get an internship to extract ideas on how to grow his company. And he said all these internships are remote. He goes, I don't want remote. I want to be in an office. I want to be around people. He goes, I'm not going to learn anything talking to people over zoom. I need to be in the environment. And I realized when he said that that there is no way that new employees coming into an organization can be in the environment remote. Like you just can't.
I was a person that grew up. The more you were in the office, sometimes the more stars you got. Right? Right. And that's not a good work life balance either. But this balance I think is good. And I think if I look at the family part of it is so important.
