10 animales en PELIGRO de EXTINCIÓN en MÉXICO

This is a YouTube video titled "10 animales en PELIGRO de EXTINCIÓN en MÉXICO" created on January 24, 2020, presenting an informative monologue about endangered animal species in Mexico. The content details various species at risk, their population status, threats they face, and conservation concerns. It is an educational piece focused on biodiversity and environmental issues in Mexico.
Mexico is one of the 16 megadiverse countries. What does that mean? Although its surface area represents 10%, it is home to 70% of all the biodiversity on Earth. Thanks to this, there are more than 200,000 species in the country, 2,500 of which are legally protected. However, some are in danger of extinction, like the ones we are going to show you in this new video from Expert O animal. First ocelot just under 2 million Leopardus perdalis specimens survive. Although the population is larger than that of other endangered species, there are fewer and fewer ocelots in the world due to trafficking of their skin in addition to the destruction of the ecosystems where they live. 2. American black bear the black bear is another of the most recently endangered Mexican animals. Illegal hunting and habitat destruction are the main causes. In addition to Mexico, the the black bear is found in Canada and Alaska, being the most common bear in North America. It is estimated that there are currently between 500,000 and 750,000 specimens. 3 the pygmy raccoon, also known as the cozumel raccoon, is considered critically endangered internationally, not only in Mexico due to its tiny distribution area, which has led it in a very short time to suffer from insular dwarfism. That is an evolutionary process that species that live in closed environments undergo in order to survive and adapt to the scarcity of resources. 4. The Bolson turtle it is native to Mexico, more specifically to Chihuahua, Coahuila and Durango, and is critically endangered. The causes are mainly climate change, seismic activity and human hunting for its meat. Today it is estimated that there are only about 2,500 Bolson turtles in Mexico. 5. The Quetzal Although it is not a species that lives exclusively in Mexico, the Mexican quetzal is the most endangered of all. It is in danger of extinction for various reasons, mainly due to deforestation and climate change in Mexico. There were also cases of illegal poaching of the quetzal for a few years, although today this activity has decreased considerably. It also lives in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and western Panama. Before continuing, don't forget to subscribe to our channel to stay up to date with everything about domestic and wild animals. 6. Mexican axolotl it can be found in the canals of the city of Xochimilco, but there are fewer and fewer specimens in the wild, so most live in aquariums throughout the world. The most striking thing about the axolotl is not only its appearance and the variety of colors that its body can dye, but but the fact that it is capable of regenerating its own cellular tissues. Water pollution and the use of the animal's body for medicinal purposes seem to have the days numbered for this small amphibian. 7. Scarlet Macaw it is a type of macaw with bright colors, predominantly red on the body and blue, green and yellow on the wings. The illegal sale of birds has reduced this species, resulting in only about 30,000 specimens remaining worldwide and in Mexico they can only be seen in Chiapas. This Mac ka has been associated with the Mayan deity Bukop Kak, but not even that has been able to stop those who seek to profit from the beauty of this exotic animal. 8 the Mexican gray Wolf. It is estimated that fewer than 300 specimens of this species survive. Its size, smaller than that of any other wolf, can be compared to that of a medium sized dog. It lives in Mexico and in certain areas of North America, but currently it only exists in captivity. Its greatest threat was humans, since ranchers in the areas where it was native took charge of practically exterminating it. 9 Paquita Marina, also known as Cachito, is a cetacean that only lives in Mexican waters. It is estimated that there are fewer than 100 specimens of this species whose main threat is the negligence of the fishing industry as it often dies trapped in fishing nets. It gets its name because both its eyes and mouth are surrounded by black spots. It is a peaceful species that communicates with its relatives through sound waves. 10. Caribbean or Antillean Manatee it is thought that fewer than 2,000 specimens survive as it has been hunted for its meat since the times of the colonization of America after the Spanish discovered that it was not a mermaid as they initially believed. It is also threatened by the destruction of its habitat and the negligence of fishermen as it frequently collides with the engines of boats and small vessels. It is not only found in the waters around Mexico, but its presence extends to Brazil, where it can be found in the Amazon River. Do you know of any other animals in Mexico that are in danger of extinction? Leave us your comments and don't miss the video above in which we explain why it is estimated that climate change will kill 50% of the species on the planet. Until next time, time experts.
