Totoro, what are you doing? I'm also noticing that my cat is doing strange things. But he's not the only one. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Some of our cats do things that we don't think are normal. Many of you suffer them in silence. But if you did a little research, you'd see that your cat behaves in ways that many other cats do. That's why today I'm here to show you that your cat isn't broken. He does things that many other cats do too. By the way, did you know that only 25% of everyone who watches our videos subscribes to our channel? If you like these types of videos, subscribe, hit, hit the bell so that YouTube will notify you every time we upload a new one. And also give it a thumbs up and lots of love. Now let's get started. Number one, touching water. Many of us think that water burns cats skin and that's why they never want to go near it. But that is a completely unfounded myth. There are many cats that are very, very curious about water, especially if these cats have been used to being in contact with it since they were kittens. It is common for some cats to drink directly by wetting their paws and licking the water that has remained on the pad. And there are even other cats that their families teach to drink directly from the kitchen or sink tap. Something that I do not recommend. But these cats are extremely curious. And when they see the stream falling, it is very common for them to hit it with their paws. So if your cat does this, do not look at them as a weirdo, because many love running water. 2. They are contortionists. Cats often sleep in completely unnatural ways with one paw here and their head like this. And they usually do this in environments where they are calm and relaxed. If you notice when a cat is stressed, the first thing they do is run and hide. And in these cases, if your cat is sleeping completely sprawled out on the couch, it's because, well, it's not worried about anything because it knows that it's completely safe in your home. It's very common for cats to sleep like this, as if they had fallen off a roof. 3. Did you know that cats have a radar? A radar that detects people who don't like cats? If you're a true Catholic, no one who doesn't like cats will ever enter your house. I have to tell you that there are people who don't like Cats and who are even good people. Not many, but there must be some. Well, cats tend to detect those people and get much closer to them. Why do they do that? But if those people aren't going to pay attention to them, well, that's precisely why cats that are very, very sociable get closer to people. And sometimes those of us who like cats start petting them, touching them, scratching them. And perhaps the cat doesn't like that very much because, well, it feels a bit invaded when it sees a bit of them. It becomes all curious because it says, well, why aren't you like the rest of humans? And it even gets a little closer precisely because that person is leaving it alone.
The cat in the manger, it doesn't eat or let you eat.
Number four, biting your hair. Well, this is quite common. When you're lying down on the couch, you, your cat comes along and bang, it starts licking or biting your hair. And why do cats do that? Well, they do it precisely because they see you as a member of their family, a member of their social group. Cats often groom each other. Cats that live together, of course, and they're doing that precisely with you. He's grooming your hair to make you look beautiful. And because it's part of the type of relationships that cats weave within their social pyramid.
But biting or grooming your hair is the same thing. What happens is that people say, oh, it's, it's just that my cat bites my hair. It's not that he bites it, he just licks it, nibbles on it a little, what he does with his own fur. 5. Sleeping in the kitchen sink or even in the sink. They won't have beds to lie down in at home. They won't have sofas or places where they can be much more comfortable. Cats like to be kind of tucked away, like inside a place that makes them feel protected. And if not, look at their reaction. When you put a box in front of them, they'll immediately get inside it. You shouldn't worry about it. But there are some families who don't like their cats getting into those places at all. If you want to avoid this, you can leave a water cap to prevent the cat from feeling like it's a comfortable place. But if you do that, please give him an alternative. You can easily put a shoebox or leave a half open closet so your cat can get in there and feel protected. 6. Your cat thinks he's a dog. Many of you tell me my cat thinks he's a dog because when I throw him a ball or a toy for him to play with. He brings it back for me to throw it again and again and again. But this behavior isn't exclusive to dogs. In fact, it shows that your cat is very smart because the more times you throw him the ball or toy, the longer he can play and the more fun he has. Plus, it's a very positive thing for him because it strengthens the bond with you and also exercises his limbs and paws more, which also makes him much more alert. So don't think that your cat is a dog, and when he asks you to play with him, be happy to do it, which is a very good thing indeed. And more cats do it than you might think. 7. Scratching outside the litter box Here comes my word. You've probably seen your cat get out of the litter box and try to cover up its litter by scratching on the floor. And you might say, but this cat has gone completely crazy. It doesn't quite get out of the litter box. Doesn't it realize there's no litter there? A lot of cats do that, especially if they've touched something with their paw that they don't like very much. It's also quite common for cats whose litter box has recently been changed because they're not used to that texture. Your cat might go into the litter box, do its business, and cover it up, and when it comes out, it says, oh, what's this? How gross. And it tries to wipe its paw on your floor. In fact, and this is a bonus track, there are many cats that, when you change their litter box, act like a concrete mixer, like a bulldozer inside the litter box, moving all the litter around to try to make it to their liking, as if to say, well, why did you put this in for me if the other one didn't work? Well, that's also very normal. 8. Lying down in the litter box While all the behaviors I've mentioned so far are perfectly normal and don't pose any problems for the cat, this one is a little more worrying. Because there are some cats that suddenly start wanting to lie down in the litter box. They spend a lot of time even curled up, tucking their paws under their body. And we do have to pay attention to that because although we're talking about common things that cats do, they do this quite frequently when they're sick. And the first thing you have to do is observe what may have changed in their environment. If he has diarrhea, if he has, well, problems, for example with his urine, etc. And also take him to the vet to have A good physical examination done because something is definitely not right, but it's so that he sleeps once. Or if he sleeps continuously. Well, if it's something that you see that it's like a habit. Normally cats don't sleep in the litter box if they're healthy. 9. Licking plastics. Oh, my goodness. Almost all cats do that. They love the texture of plastic bags. Don't think that your cat is the only one who does it. But I would worry about removing all bags from his reach because he could break them with his teeth, with his claws, and end up swallowing a piece of plastic. This could cause an obstruction in the intestine and that could become a problem. Veterinarians are like doctors. It's always, don't do this and don't do that. Don't ask me anything, because I'll always tell you it's not bad. I usually do that. And 10. Your cat smells in a very strange way. Well, it's not that it smells, it's that it sniffs in a very strange way. There are some cats, well, almost all of them, that have a peculiar way of sniffing. And you can see it when they do something like blow a lot of air inwards. It's like they stick their upper teeth out a little and do something like this. You know what I'm saying? Well, I just can't do it. And why are they sniffing like that? Well, there's a very, very simple explanation, and as always in my videos, it has to come out. It's the famous pheromones. I've always been explaining to you that your cats can perceive pheromones and you can't. And do you know why? Because cats have an organ under the roof of their mouth. Well, between the roof of their mouth and their nose that we don't use, which is called Jacob's organ or the bomeronasal organ. This is the organ that they use to perceive pheromones. That's why when you apply synthetic pheromones to your cat or they have a positive effect on it, and you don't even notice when cats are trying to perceive pheromones in the environment, even when they're sniffing something that's very close to them, they tend to do this kind of peculiar breathing called the Fleming reflex, precisely to put air into that Jacobson's organ. And they can perceive if another cat has been there, if the environment is safe, or if they have something to worry about. The other day when we were with Millet, I said, look, he's doing the Fleming reflex right now, and I wasn't recording it. And that's it. Quite quote. And your cat does strange things. Well, if you're noticing that your cat is doing something that's driving you crazy because you think, well, I don't know if my cat has gone crazy. What you have to do is leave us your opinion in the comments. And we. Well, if we see that there are other feline behaviors that are a little abnormal, but no, they are actually normal, we can make a second part of this video. And that's it. And that's it for today's video. And I remind you that you can subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. Thank you very much for watching the video until the end. Subscribe, because that also helps us a lot. And I also remind you that we have a secondary channel here on YouTube called Questions and Answers from a veterinarian. Check it out. And today we meet these two beauties named Getina and Bacacha, who live in Mexico with their human companion, Vero Mejia. And Fermin is Maria, Romero's somewhat mischievous cat, who says that they rescued him from the street a year ago and that she's very happy that they did. I'm glad too. And finally we have Link, who was also rescued from the trash. Thank you, Antonello, for doing it. Thank you very much for following the channel. Happy pets and families. And we'll see you in the next video. But he's not the only one. Are you recording me? I can't say too much because then it'll look like I've eaten bacon. But he's not the only one. But I don't know how to say it slowly. But he's not the only one. I'm all ready. But he's not the only one. Yeah, for me, totally. But now he is. Right. But he's not the only one. Liar. And what do I say then? But he's not the only one. If what you want is to laugh at me. Not anymore. But he's not the only one. No, I'll start over. Meaty ones. This is never going to work. And when they see the little stream falling, so if your cat does it, they chase balls and bring them back to you. Back to you. No. 8 are the famous pheromones. But he's not the only one.
