Foreign year is equivalent to seven dog years False. It is true that dogs age faster than humans, but it is impossible to calculate the equivalents in years exactly. Depending on the stage of life, the breed it belongs to, and the quality of life the dog has, it will live more or less. What we can assure you is that after two years of age all dogs are considered adults and after nine years old they are are considered elderly. 2. Dogs see in black and white. False. Dogs do see in color, although they do not perceive colors in the same way that we do. They have dichromatic vision, so they perceive blue and yellow and some of their nuances. 3. If a dog has a dry nose, it means that it is sick. Also false. Although most of the time dogs have a wet nose, it can dry out due to the heat or because they have just woken up. Without this implying a health problem, you should be concerned when they show other symptoms such as fever, mucus, wounds, blood, etc. 4. Dogs eat grass to purge themselves. This is not a false myth, but it is not completely true either. Sometimes they do eat grass to cleanse their systems. However, they do not always vomit it up afterwards, so why other reasons do they eat it? Studies reveal that many dogs eat grass to compensate for the lack of fiber or vitamins in their diet, while others do it simply because they like it. 5. All female dogs should breed at least once. Totally false. Female dogs do not need to be mothers to stay healthy. In fact, it is advisable to sterilize them as soon as possible to avoid health problems related to the reproductive system, such as breast cancer, cysts, infections or phantom pregnancies. 6. PPP dogs are very aggressive. Another false myth. PPP dogs are considered dangerous because of their strength and musculature, not because they are born aggressive. As with any other breed, everything will depend on the education the dog receives and its socialization. 7. PPP dogs jaws lock when they bite. Again false. This myth is again caused by the strength of this type of dog due to their highly developed musculature. When they bite, it may seem as if their jaw is locked but they can reopen their mouths like any other dog. 8. They lick their wounds to heal themselves. This is only half true. It is true that when they have a wound, they usually lick it to relieve the discomfort they feel. However, this is not entirely positive and does not favor healing. In fact, excessive licks on the wound prevent healing. That is why it is often recommended to use a collar and a snaffle. 9. Dogs love to be hugged False. The truth is that dogs do not enjoy this act, which for us is pure love. When you hug them, they feel restrained and blocked, something they do not like at all and it can cause them stress. For this reason, many dogs try to escape when they are hugged. It is positive to show them all our affection, but through gestures that they accept. 10. Dogs wag their tails when they are happy. Another half truth. The movement of a dog's tail has multiple interpretations and it all depends on the context, the type of movement and the position of the tail. Don't miss the video we made about tail movements where we explain what each one means. You can watch it above. So a dog can wag its tail because it is nervous, excited, stressed, alert or relaxed.
