As you know, on this channel I've talked to you many times about how to choose a good quality food for our feline companions. Well, dry food, feed, care, croquettes, balanced cat food, or whatever it's called in your area. Okay, I'm going to use the word feed because that's how it's used here in Spain. In any case, I've often ranked foods that we can find in specialty stores for our cats, taking into account their characteristics. But I've almost never considered how price influences the choice of food. I'm aware that there are some people who, for whatever reason, have a tighter budget or who perhaps take care of a large number of cats. And food is a very important element. It costs a lot of money to keep our cats. And that's why today I've decided to talk to you about a series of dry cat foods that are high quality and affordable. That is to say, they are cheap and good foods. Although I can already tell you that some are better than others. And that is why I have ordered them in the form of a ranking. What I have looked at to create a personal ranking, as I am telling you, from my point of view, is the composition, amount of protein, fat, also the ingredients, whether they come from animal origin, and so on. And finally, and very important in this video, also the price. Therefore, the ranking is not ordered from the most expensive to the cheapest feed. But I have taken all these factors into account. First of all, I cannot start any video about cat feeding without first telling you that the composition of cat feed brands can vary depending on the country. I am going to tell you about the ones they have here in Spain. We also cannot generalize. A brand is not the same as a range within the same brand. There are different ranges or different foods with different compositions. And that is why I am only going to focus on specific products, which does not mean that the entire brand is good or that the entire brand is bad. And that's why it's always super important to read the label of what you feed your cat. On the other hand, I don't mean to say that the foods I'm going to refer to in the video are the best on the market. I've worked in a low price range, and for me that's less than €4.50 per kilo. From €4 to €5, we would consider it an average price. And from €7 to €5 or even €10, we would consider it a high price. So of all the ones I've found which are less than €4.50, and there are very cheap ones, I've chosen the best ones so that they can be useful to you. And all the information both about the price and the composition, I've taken directly from the websites where they're sold. And as always, this is not a sponsored video. No brand has paid me to appear in this video, to be in this ranking or not.

In other words, this is simply my personal perception number six Lifelong complete. A complete food for cats rich in rice and chicken, which is an Amazon brand. This food costs, as I have written down here, €2.94 per kilo for the 3kg format. This food could not be left out of this ranking and I wanted it to be included in the video because Amazon is a global distribution company, so everyone has it very accessible. They can go directly to their website and buy it for their cats. In addition, it has a fairly competitive price. So it is possible that for this reason you are considering buying it for your cats. It is true that they guarantee that more or less 30% of its composition is of animal origin. Remember that our cats are strict carnivores. Therefore they have to base their diet on this type of protein that comes from chicken, fish, well, animals in general.

And.

And this percentage is good. In fact, the amount of crude protein it offers is more or less 27%, almost reaching that 30 that we should be looking for as a minimum. As you can see, although it is not the best option on the market, and there are even foods that are more expensive and have a worse composition, it is not so bad. If we read the label directly, we can see that chicken is the first ingredient, which is great, it is not cereals, and that it has at least 18% chicken meal and 5% fresh chicken. That is something that should always appear when we start reading the label food of animal origin. Therefore, it is something that catches our attention and that we like to find in the food we give our cats. Obviously, we cannot consider this a premium food, a premium feed, because the second ingredient is corn, corn, flour and so on. But anyway, when I started making the ranking, I already assumed that this was likely to happen in many foods, because as I said, we are not only looking for the composition, but also adjusting it to a budget. On the other hand, there is another very important element that I like to look for in our cat's food, which is the amount of taurine. As you know, taurine is an essential amino Acid for our cat's development. And when the food they eat has little taurine, this can manifest itself in problems with their heart or eyes. In this case, it has 1,600 milligrams per kilo, which is above the minimum, which would be 1,000. However, along with this percentage of proteins that does not reach 30%, we can also see that the amount of fat is already quite High, around 16%. And this is taking into account that we are talking about a food made from chicken. Its main raw material is not, for example, salmon, which is a fatty fish. So it is a little higher than I would like. And that's why this food is at the bottom of the ranking I've made, because it's true that it doesn't have a catastrophic composition, but there are others in this same video that are much nutrivist for sterilized cats. With salmon and rice. Well, let's say with salmon, because if we start reading the ingredients, we see that the first ingredient we have is dehydrated chicken meat, more or less 25%. So the food is not made only from salmon. The price of this food is more or less €4 3.99 per kilo in the 8kg format. And then, well, you might say to me, wow, call Carlos. If it's more expensive than the one on Amazon, why do you put it higher? Right. Were you looking for the budget? A little. Because in this case the composition is much better, which justifies this price. As I said, the first ingredient is dehydrated chicken meat, more or less 25%. Then we find corn, but we also have more or less 6% dehydrated salmon. So without going into too many calculations, 31% of all the protein in the feed is already guaranteed to come from animal sources. And that's positive. Although this percentage is probably higher because we then have hydrolyzed chicken, which they don't tell us the proportion of, but it does increase the amount of animal products in the feed. Let's now look at the analytical components. Look, the protein is 28%. If you notice, it's a little higher than Amazon's and close to 30. And as I said before, but also if we look at the fat, in this case, it's much lower, only 9%. If we add to this that it incorporates salmon, which is a source of good fat, unsaturated omega fatty acids that have beneficial effects, for example, for the skin, antioxidant effect, anti inflammatory effect, then we understand that the fat it has is also quite good, more Things that I look for, as I've already mentioned, taurine in, in this case, 1.70 milligrams per kilo, as you can see above the minimum. So what are the negative points of this food? Well, for me the main thing is that the amount of protein is below the minimum 30% that I consider cat food should have. Therefore, although the composition is not bad, it is not the best food within this price range that you can give your cat. However, I can tell you that this food has a better composition than other very, very famous brands that cost more than €6 per kilo. Let's go to number four. Here we find banters for sterilized fish animals that cost more or less. Let's see what I have here. €4.42 per kilo. Oh, the price goes up again. Don't worry, I'm not going to go over €4.50. And there are still others that are economical and have a very good composition in this ranking. If we look at the ingredients and nothing else, we might think that this food is very similar to the previous one. Look, it has a percentage of fresh fish of 20% and dehydrated fish of 8%. We would be around 30 to 28% again. But it also has dehydrated chicken and other sources of protein such as peas. This is ultimately reflected in the amount of crude protein it provides our cats, and in this case the Bant, feed with much higher crude protein than the previous one. All this while maintaining a similar amount of fat, more or less 10%. Finally, if we look at the taurine, which I have written down here, it is 1100mg per kilo. As you can see, it is below the previous ones. But it is still a sufficient contribution for our cats for all these characteristics that, as I have said, are quite similar to the previous one, but with that extra protein of 35.5%. Well, for me it perfectly justifies being one step above in the ranking and pay close attention because we are going to get into the top three of these three. Well, I have to tell you that all three have surprised me. I expected some of them a little more, but they have surprised me in a good way. To start with this Salvaje adult base for sterilized cats. This food has a very surprising price of €2.08 per kilo in the 12 kg format. Although there was an offer that if you bought two 12kg packages, it would come out to only €1 and 98 cents per kilo. As you can See? Well, it has knocked the previous ones out of the park in terms of price. But what about the composition in terms of ingredients? It has dehydrated poultry protein as the first ingredient, 25%. But we must also add that the label also says, although it does not indicate the quantity, that it contains dehydrated animal protein and hydrolyzed poultry liver. That is why this food provides 32.5% crude protein. And the amount of fat is not outrageous. More or less 11.5%, which is a percentage that is not bad at all. As you can see, the protein is a little lower than the previous food, but the price is also much lower. It's almost half. Almost? No, it's less than half. This makes me put it in this position in the ranking, because you're giving your cat a food that's quite similar to the previous one, but at a lower price. Especially considering what I've told you, that we're looking for good but affordable food within everyone's reach. The negative point of this food is that the amount of taurine is a little low.

It only has 800 milligrams per kilo. And as you can see below the limit that has been established at 1,000. So for me, this is a pretty important con that prevents me from moving it up even higher in the ranking. Wait a minute, because in position two and position one, we have more interesting foods and at similar prices. Let's go to position number two. Here we have a fairly well known brand, at least among veterinarians, called naa. In this case, we're talking about food for sterilized adults with chicken and rice. I have to tell you that this food has the best composition out of the entire ranking. If we look at the ingredients, we find that it has chicken as the first ingredient, 38.5% of chicken alone, which is already a lot of which, well, 23.5% is dehydrated chicken, 15% has fresh chicken meat, and in addition to that, 38.5%, we have dehydrated animal protein at 10%. So without considering other ingredients, we are already approaching more or less 50% of the total ingredients of animal origin, which is quite a high percentage, especially considering the price range we are working in. The expensive part of the food is the protein, which, by the way, I have not told you how much it costs. In this case, we have it at €4.50 per kilo, the 10kg format. As you can see, the price is quite similar to another one I have already told you.

But in this case the composition is much better. If we look at the amount of protein our cat provides, in this case we have 37% of the total, around 40%, which for me is the percentage we have to look for in the food we give our cats is quite close to that of a premium food. As for the amount of fat, it is very similar to the previous one, more or less 12%. Perfect. What else do I usually look for? Now, you might be saying at home. Taurine. Taurine, correct. Taurine. In this case, 2000mg kg, much higher than the minimum established of 1000mg kilo. And also, among other things that I look at on the label, in this case I am going to stop at the amount of calcium and phosphorus. The calcium phosphorus ratio is very important because it affects, for example, the health of our cat's bones and joints. And the amount of phosphorus specifically can also affect the health of their kidneys. In this case the ratio is very good because it has to be approximately between 1 and 2. In this case we have it at 1.28. And the amount of phosphorus it provides is also quite low. Therefore I am also happy with that part of the label. So, although I have to remind you that I quite like this food in the context of this video, with this price of €4.50 which is a bit high for the prices we are dealing with, I cannot put it in the number one spot because leading this ranking is one that costs €2.84 per kilo in the 15kg format. As you can see, it is economical and the composition is not bad at all. It is the IT classic for sterilized cats. And yes, you have been telling me a lot about this brand, asking me to comment on it. And of course when I went to see it, I was pleasantly surprised, to be honest. And with this price you would think that there can't be a decent food for a cat. But in this case I can tell you that it is quite acceptable. Look at the ingredients. Meat 36% is the first ingredient. We have dehydrated meats, fresh chicken, etc. But we also have sources of protein, peas, hydrolyzed chicken protein and hydrolyzed salmon. Specifically they tell us what percentage is incorporated with the hydrolyzed salmon and it is more or less 6%. So just from the ingredients that we can calculate based on what is stated on the label, we have 42% of animal origin, a percentage that, as I said, is higher because there are some of animal origin that do not indicate the percentage they incorporate. If we look at the amount of protein, it is a little lower than in the previous food. In this case we have 33%, as you can see above, 30%, which I consider the minimum acceptable, and the amount of fat is moderate, more or less 12%. Regarding the calcium phosphorus ratio, we in this case it is 1.3%, which is also within normal limits, although it is true that the amount of phosphorus provided by this food is slightly higher. To all this, we have to add that the amount of taurine in the food is 1,000 milligrams per kilo. As you can see, within limits. If you notice, the composition of this food is obviously a little worse than the previous food, the one in number two. But since in this ranking I'm not only looking at the composition, but also at the price, the fact that it costs €1.60 less than the second one, for me, it more than justifies this food being in the number one position. If you are looking for a cat food that has an acceptable good composition and you also need to adjust your budget a little, for me, this food seems like a very good option. And yes, I know that now you are going to tell me, wow, but what kind of food are you going to recommend to cats? Let's see, we are talking about foods with a very, very low price, less than 4.5 per kilo. Therefore, we have to make some concessions in terms of the composition of the food in order to adjust to the budget. Even so, we have found some feeds that are quite decent. And especially for those situations in which we have to reduce the cost of feeding our cats, we, we can consider some of these. And above all, I have to recommend that every time you go to buy cat food, no matter what the price range is, you always take a moment to look at the label on the back. Especially because many of these brands which I have talked about in the video are not very well known. If when you go to the cat food store, you go straight to the most famous brands, you may be paying a certain premium just for what the brand represents.
