A tu gato se le caen los dientes ¡Y tú no lo sabes! 🙀

Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, explains why kittens lose their baby teeth and what cat owners should watch for. Cats shed their first teeth between 3 and 6 months old, and dental problems can cause serious health issues if ignored.
Teeth. Cat teeth. What do you like? Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Wow. It seems that the Tooth Fairy has been around a lot lately. Well, the Tooth fairy here in Spain, because she's the one who takes children's teeth when they fall out. I don't know what it's called in your country, but. Or if there's some kind of being that takes children's teeth. Because, for example, in the United States, I know it's called the Tooth Fairy. If you want, leave it in the comments so we can all find out. The thing is, it's really funny because we're getting a lot of questions about people who are worried that their cat's teeth are falling out. And they ask me if it's normal or not. The truth is, well, it can be normal because cats, just like people, also lose their teeth. Obviously, we are talking about tooth loss when the cat is still young. That is when they are losing what are called, in quote marks, baby teeth. It may also be that a very old cat or one that has some type of dental disease, has inflamed gums due to some type of viral infection, or also because they have a lot of tartar and have not had adequate oral health throughout their life. In these cases, they may also lose their teeth. But anyway, today what I'm going to talk to you about is tooth loss in young kittens. That is when young cats lose their baby teeth. Specifically, Aurora told me on YouTube, if we could make a video about baby teeth in cats and dogs. Wait, wait, wait, Ducky, come on now. Come on. If we could make a video about baby teeth in dogs and cats. Well, in this case, as I was saying, we are going to talk about cats. Her kitten is losing her baby teeth and she had no idea that this could happen to her. She tells me. I think her bottom fang is hanging down, but it won't fall out. And the other one has already come out and I don't know if it will fall out or if it will stay there and hurt the poor thing when she eats. I've read things, but they don't give much information on the websites either. Well, I'm here to inform you, cats, just like human children, lose their teeth throughout their youth. In case you didn't know, the total number of permanent teeth that cats have is 30. 16 on top and 14 on the bottom. What? 3 and a 3, 6 and a 7 times 2, 14 on top. Right. 3 and a 4 and 3, 7 and an 8, 2 on top and bottom is 14. 14 on the bottom, 16 on top. Another question I've received, and I'm sure you'll find this silly. Do cats also have baby teeth? If so, when they fall out, the baby teeth start to come in around three to five weeks. By that time, all of their baby teeth will be out, and the permanent ones will all come out between three and five months, because not all of them fall out at the same time, of course. And some fall out a little later, like the canines or molars, and others fall out a little earlier, like the incisors. Many people have also asked me that they don't know how to tell if their cat's teeth are falling out or not, because most people don't realize this. Most cats swallow their teeth when they lose them, and then they come out in their poop. And when you clean their litter box, you throw the teeth away too. Now, what can also happen is that one of those teeth, perhaps if it's larger or because it's been eating something harder, may come loose and fall out of its mouth. In that case, the cat won't go and eat its own tooth. It'll leave it lying around. And you sweeping up your house or doing your routine cleaning, find it so it catches your attention because you haven't seen any others. And you don't know that your cat's teeth are actually falling out because you simply haven't noticed the rest. Okay, and a question I have. But when your cat opens its mouth, you'll notice that it's missing teeth, right? It's not common. I mean, if you don't see it yawning or something like that, you have to pay close attention. Your cat doesn't have its mouth open in front of you for that long. With dogs, for example, it's easier to go and look at their teeth if you want. Cats usually don't like it when you open their mouths, so most people don't realize this at all. Another thing that you care about a lot is whether you should change the type of food they're eating. I've also received a question about this, and they said they didn't know if they should give them a slightly whiter food. Well, in principle, as I'm telling you, your cat doesn't lose all of their teeth at once and they're left with none. So it's very likely that your cat will be able to continue eating their dry, dry food normally. Well, if you see that after three or three months, they might want to eat A little less or leave a little more in the bowl or something like that. Well, in that case, you can give them a little more soft food. If you have a cat that's more or less at this age, even if you haven't noticed that they're losing their teeth, you already know that they're doing it. So you can anticipate your cat telling you that they don't want to eat dry food and give them a little soft food yourself. But as I said, it's not completely essential because it's not going to lose all its teeth at the same time. And look at this image. How curious. In this photo, what you're seeing is a cat with two fangs. That's clearly not normal because the cat only has one fang. But hey, one fang on each side, of course, about it, they ask me, hey, and of the two fangs, do you know which one is the permanent one? The other upper fang is also double, and the one behind is a little more curved and more reddish. I don't know if that's normal. What you're seeing in this photo is something quite common, not so much in cats, but. But for example, in dogs in other breeds, such as Yorkshire terriers. Those are types of dogs that tend to retain their teeth quite a bit. This is the retention of a deciduous tooth, a baby tooth. What happens is that the permanent fang comes out and traps the root of the baby tooth, and the baby tooth doesn't fall out because it's stuck there. So most of the time the tooth ends up falling out. You don't have to worry. But I do recommend that if you see that your cat's fang isn't falling out completely. Well, I haven't said it, but the one in back is the one that has to fall out. If you see that your cat's fang, which is a little thinner and is in back, isn't falling out completely, what you have to do is go to the vet and tell them why? Because having two fangs is not an advantage. What it does is create a space between the two teeth where a lot of dirt accumulates, tartar can build up, and it can easily develop periodontal disease. If your cat develops periodontal disease when it gets older, it could end up losing its fang. As we know, cats are carnivores and need their fangs to eat properly. Therefore, if you see that your cat is retaining its baby tooth along with its permanent tooth, go to the vet, because it will probably need to be sedated or anesthetized and extracted. But if you Say that cats don't open their mouths. How are you going to see that? Well, if you've noticed that your cat is retaining its teeth, then you'll have to get a little closer to your cat and occasionally lift its lip a little, whatever it lets you. But how are you going to know that it's retaining it if you haven't looked at it first? In any case, we usually look at it during the consultation. So it's possible that when you go to the vet, we'll tell you. I find it confusing. I find it confusing. Buy it. I mean, if the vet doesn't tell you and you realize it, then take it to the vet. But if the vet tells you, then he'll tell you what to do. I buy it. Well, I think that's all the questions you've asked us about baby teeth in cats. And now for my post. It is very important that you take your cat's oral health into account. Don't think that only dogs should have their teeth cleaned with ultrasound from time to time at the vet's office. Because sometimes cats also need to have it done when they are a little older than this age. Because right now we are talking about cats that are still kittens. They can suffer from problems such as chronic gingivitis, viral infections that also cause gingivitis, tartar buildup that can eventually lead to your cat losing a tooth and that can end up causing your cat to stop eating dry food and only have to eat wet food. A series of problems such as malnutrition and problems in other parts of their body, such as their kidneys and heart, as I always say. And it's great that you notice now that your cat is losing teeth because it seems very unusual, but keep making sure that their teeth are always healthy for the rest of their life. Oh, by the way, the photos you've seen are from our follower because we know she also watches the videos. Oh, there are little birds flying behind. Little birds that are pigeons, a hawk or dove. Oh, the ducks are fighting over there. You don't know that, but don't put this because it looks terrible. Look at that powder pigeon there doing the courtship. The pigeon. Don't you want me to put it? Whatever you want. Depending on how human it makes me. Jeez, I'm the worst canine when I gave you a canine man. A canine on top and a canine on the bottom. But it counts as half of the arcade. Seriously, what's going on here today? Please focus on it because they're going to kill me because of you outside my park. The gansta are telling me, not the gans.
