The content features a clinical veterinarian named Carlos Ruocchio discussing various activities and tips to keep cats and dogs entertained and mentally stimulated during home confinement. The video includes advice on games, toys, routines, and managing pet stress during quarantine, with references to specific pets and adoption associations. The format is a monologue with some interjections from other speakers but does not include a conversation with Javier Pariente.
I know it's been two weeks and we're all fed up, but that's precisely why we're bringing you this video to try to entertain you a little bit and so that your canine and feline companions don't notice a thing. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel from my home. We have to stay home. With all this that's happened to us, we've had to change our lifestyles a bit. We've had to shut ourselves away in our homes and our animal companions notice it. Obviously, if you live with fish, they might not notice as much, but our canine and feline companions are watching us all day long and saying, well, isn't this annoying guy going to work? Can you leave me alone for a while, please? That's why today we're going to see how some of the cats and dogs from the Happy Pets and Family's family are doing. Let's see if it gives you any ideas for these days when we're stuck at home.
What does the kitty do?
I'm also going to give you some tips that I've come up with to make these days much more bearable. Nika. The truth is that she's very lucky because she lives with Ruocchio and Ruocchio always falls for everything. Plus she knows very well how to take care of dogs that live in houses and also cats. And she always provides them with things so that they can entertain themselves a little. Nika, in addition, is currently living with Somba, who, in case you didn't know, is a greyhound who is looking for a home. She is in the Associaciona Dopta Mestizas de Sevilla and is looking for a permanent home. I'm going to leave all the information below in the description box so that you can contact the association so that we can find her a permanent home. For Nick and Samba, Rochio has chosen to play activity games that keep dogs not only physically active, but but also mentally. For that, it is very important that we have some type of toy that can, for example, gradually provide them with food. Rokio is using these, but any toy will work for you and you can even make them yourself. You can search the Internet for millions of tutorials on how to make activity games for our dogs. Also, now that you have a little more free time, it will surely help you to occupy your mind a little. Well, and that's with dogs. But what about cats who usually have this reputation for being much more independent than Dogs and wanting to be alone much more. One outlet that we can have at home with our feline companions is to play a little more with them. This is obvious and in fact Milou is asking my parents for it. Milou is a little weird, to be honest, because of course my parents come and go normally and he has his moments to be alone, to be in the sun and so on. And these days he is seeing that there are always people at home. So that doesn't seem to suit him very much. My mother says that my Lu, who who usually sleeps all morning, now lies down in the area where his blanket is. And that he never really falls into a deep sleep, but wakes up easily. That he suddenly stares at them as if to say, well, what's wrong with you? Don't you have anything to do? Also, another thing my mother has seen that my style has started to do is piling up his toys. She says that he makes mountains of toys for him and stares at them as if to say, come on, here you have the whole assortment. You can play with me with whatever you want.
Quote Baker is doing great during the quarantine. That's not going very well. And the Pikachu that came out because she went to walk her pet.
These types of toys with cardboard boxes are very, very cheap. You can make them with anything you have at home or with any box you have at home full of junk. And they will give them many hours of fun. If more than one cat lives together, they they will also be able to play with each other through those little holes. But if you are the only one who lives with a cat, you can play through the little holes which they love. Baker and Pikachu, who live together and are up for adoption by the Feline Defense association of Seville. I'll leave the link below. They also spend a lot of time with lol, who is their human family. She has put their bed near where she works because she says they love being there watching her work so that they fall asleep while I work here and don't bother me, where's Naa? But to entertain a dog at home know not only do you need toys either for you to make them or for you to have them at home, but you can also help them stay a little more active by tracking and searching. Dogs are especially good at this and Nika is an expert, as you can see. Rokio shows her her favorite toy. She introduces it to her a little earlier so that she knows that this is going to be the object she is going to have to interact with the one she is going to play with is. And then she leaves na aside for a bit and hides it in a part of the house.
Come now. What I do is take her to a room. Come on. Come in here. Come in here. So Nia is locked up and we are going to hide her stuffed animal. Let's put it in here, for example, so that she has to use her sense of smell a little. It's not worth stealing it. Okay, Pipe. And now I'm going to free m. Come on, Nika. Look. Where's Nick? Look, look, Nika. Look, you. Where's Nikia? Very good. Okay, Nika, I'm making it really easy for you. Okay, let's do another shot of the seeker. Let's hide it for her. A more difficult one that she's making.
Really easy, Nika. Well, I think she already knows all the hiding places in the house, and that's why Ruocchio has to be a little more creative each time. Sometimes if she hides them in very, very simple places, Nika finds them in 20 seconds. So the game doesn't last long, but hey, she does it a couple or three times. And that way you can extend the time they're active for a good while. Damn, Nika's got a really good temper. I don't find my cat that good.
But you can also use these days to practice a little obedience with your canine companion. Cats can also learn tricks and be obedient. At this time. Don't worry about spending, I don't know, 25 or 30 minutes teaching him to lie down to give you his paw. That way you'll be giving him treats for him. Time will seem shorter for them and for you, too. Another very important thing is that since we are going to be spending a lot of time with our canine companions at home, some of them may end up developing separation anxiety because they have had you very close to them for, I don't know, 15, 20 days, a month, a month and a half. And then suddenly you have to go back to your routine, you have to go back to work, and you have to leave them alone at home for a while. So to avoid that, it is important that you also provide them with either independent toys that they can use without you being there, or time in which they can be alone and entertain themselves with other different things. For example, in this case, Rokio uses intelligence games like this puzzle so that both Somba and Nika can take their food out of the traps and thus spend some time entertained and alone. Come on, Nika's it's about doing it.
But you can build activity feeders or activity toys for cats, like you do with dogs. You can use a box or a plastic bottle, like I did with these holes, so that he can release the food or kibble while he plays. You can also release grains of food around the house so that he can look for and find them. It is true that cats are not as good at tracking as dogs, and they get bored of that activity more quickly. But hey, you can also have it on hand to spend time with them to encourage this somewhat autonomous behavior. You can also have a room where they are alone or where they are not with you. And if they go to that room and are there playing or spending time there or doing whatever they want to do, then at that moment you can reward them positively, reward them for being in a separate room from you. But a cardboard box can also give cats a refuge, a fort practically, and it is a place where they will have a little more privacy so that they can live their life without having to be in front of you. If you do not have a cardboard box at home that you can use for the cat, open, for example, the doors of some closets so that they can have access to it, that if he gets overwhelmed by your presence, he could lose sight of you if he feels like it. Right now, you're also going to have to adjust the walks you have to take with your canine companions a little. In Rosio's case with Nika, they used to go to a very, very large park and take a very long walk of about an hour and a half in the afternoon. But now, logically, they can't go out as much, so they go to a park that is perhaps closer to their house. And in that park, what they do is take a shorter walk of about 20 minutes or so and then return home. Regarding walks, it is very important that older dogs, geriatric dogs, do not take this type of change in routine quite well. Therefore, you will have to try to maintain it as much as possible. That's why I recommend that you try to take them out for less time, but that it is as close as possible to the time of day that you took them out before. And of course, your life will be much easier if you live in a house with a garden where your canine companion can go for a walk or run around a bit, or even play with him by throwing a ball. This is Zhao's great luck. And although he also needs his walks, he is also a dog who is a bit older, and his walks have had to be reduced over time. Therefore, although they have to go outside, they don't spend much time outside either. And he doesn't miss it either. Another great luck that families who have an apartment with a balcony can have is that their feline companions can also go out onto the balcony. Logically for them, they have to be well equipped, as we showed you here on the channel in the video about the bars and nets that you can put up to prevent your cat from falling. And what are Totro and Kimmy doing these days? Their routine has changed very little because they play with each other quite a bit well, and they keep each other company. They can still go out into their patio on one side and also onto the balcony from where they can see the street. And well, they are spending a few quiet and relaxed days just like they are. Nothing more or less, less. But it could also be that your dog gets scared quite easily by noises in the street. And these days it's happening that at 8 in the evening everyone goes out onto their balconies to applaud. And I've heard here in the community where we live, dogs that start howling at that time and get nervous. In that case, you always have to provide them with a quieter area of your house where they can hide. Although this doesn't happen to everyone. Nika and Somba don't seem to be affected, but neither do Coco and Jade, who in fact watch the applause moment with great curiosity.
They're both watching amazed, as the people on the balconies march. We've caught the music, the noise and the lights at just the right time. And something very, very important now that we're spending more time at home, is that we maintain a calm, relaxed environment with the cats and with others. Because, as you know, cats are animals that can't stand noise or a lot of noise around them. It's important to remember that it is possible that now that you are going to be living together at home for much longer, especially in larger families, some friction may arise and even one voice may be louder than the other. We have to try to avoid this, because this will cause the cat a lot of stress and it will not have an escape route to get out of the situation, because we will be with them all the time, so we have to think a little and also act accordingly. And for all these circumstances with cats that can cause a little stress, synthetic feline facial pheromones will always help us. You can perfectly use the normal ones, normal facial pheromones. They do not have to be calming or anything like that. Another great way to spend time with your canine companion is by giving them relaxing massages or letting them fall asleep on you, like Pippa has been doing lately. Who spends the afternoons on top of her human family? Look at her, how calm she is. But of course, Pippa also has moments of play. And in those cases, the face she makes is to burst out laughing. Well, Pippa always has a face that's a bit to burst out laughing. Another thing that can happen if they're less active is that they gain weight. It happens to us too. For this, you'll have to restrict their food a little. If before you were giving them a certain amount, I don't know, X, then you'll have to give them maybe a little less. And also make sure that you don't give them too many treats while you're playing with them, because that can also make them fat. They're a huge source of calories that we don't realize we're eating. And well, that's it. As you can see, each of us in our home spends our time the best we can. If you have any more ideas, you can leave them in the comments. And in this way, you'll help the entire family and community of pets and happy families to spend these days in a more fun way and make our animal companions feel it much less. And thank you very much to all our regular collaborators at Happy Pets and Families for everything you've sent us and everything you've told us so we can make this video. Also, I loved seeing all your furry friends again. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. Remember to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. And hit the bell so that YouTube will notify you every time we upload new content. Thank you very much for following following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And I'll see you in the next video. And we're going to finish by getting to know your animal companions that you introduced to us through the Facebook group. Well, to start, we have Eitar here showing us how Phoebe spent her first day hiking. Look at her, how curious she is there, perched on her backpack. Logically, these photos are from a few weeks ago. Oh, blessed freedom. And Marley Santiago introduces us to her kitten, Kiera, who is already two years old. Look how comfortable she is. Oh, come on. What big ears. And Geronimo Oxley introduces us to his kitten, who is currently adapting to living together with another cat. I'm glad that Little by little they are getting along, because this is a big step in a cat's life. And if you want us to meet your animal companions, what you have to do is introduce them to us in the Facebook group. We will gradually select the images and publish them at the end of our videos. See you next week. Okay. And who else? Oh, Baker Pikachu. Well, and Totoro.
Ah, Greta, I already said Pippa.
Obviously, if you live with a fish, etc. I was going to say so. So we asked their family. Well, okay. And that perhaps you haven't thought of them. So that. And that. And that perhaps you haven't thought of them in this case. Rochio is in this case. In that. In this case. Right. And also now that you have. And also now that you have. I had said to vacate and vacate, but. Ah. And that you give them a prize when you. And that you give him a prize when you. And that you give him a. Well, I'm going to do this for you in case you put it here, the bridge, but if not, remove it. Okay. Here you could put my light or whatever. Okay, but this is so that you have that bridge. Okay. It's important that you also have it in. It's important that you also take it into account. And that, well, it's not worth it. Many, many thanks to Ruocchio too. Well, to my parents, I don't need to be. But I also give them many thanks to Ruocchio, to Loyo. There's another Rokio to Machu and in.
Oh, I haven't talked about Kimmy and Totoro. Now we put an insert in the area in the fence in the balcony, and that's it. What else? What else did you tell me to say? Who else? Oh, okay. Now.
Yes, well, now we work remotely. Look, new technology and techniques and all these.
