Hello and welcome back to Animal Expert. Today we're going to talk about the English bull terrier. Around 1835, crosses were developed between bulldogs and terriers to obtain lighter but equally tenacious animals capable of resisting and fighting in the new and cruel sport of dog fighting. This gave rise to the ancestors of today's bull terrier, which were known as the bull and terrier due to to the progenitors involved. Starting in 1850, James Hinks standardized the breed for the first time by carrying out selected crosses between the white bull terrier and other breeds, including the now extinct white English terrier. It is not known with certainty which breeds were used to achieve this characteristic head. The first bull terrier club was created in England in 1887. A year later, the first official breed standard was published and in 1917, the first modern bull terrier with an shaped head and without a stop was born. His name was Lord Gladiator and he represents the birth of the breed as we know it today. The English Bull terrier is a strong and muscular dog, usually white in color, although it can also be black, red or brindle. The oval shape of its head does not have a nasofrontal depression, something characteristic of the breed. The coat of the bull terrier is short, rough, tightly packed and has a fine shine. In winter, a soft undercoat may appear. The English bull terrier, if well trained, has a balanced and affectionate nature with people. They are loyal dogs by nature and truly affectionate. They are extremely brave since they have a strong sense of protection, although this does not mean that they are aggressive and dangerous dogs. Sometimes they tend to be a little stubborn when something gets into their head, and for this reason we will work very actively in their education. Castration is highly recommended to achieve a stable adult dog. This breed, strongly attached to its owners, suffers greatly from loneliness, so we will avoid adopting a dog with these characteristics at all costs if we do not have time to dedicate to it and all its needs. Its coat is easy to care for and maintain, so brushing it from time to time will keep it looking perfect. In winter, it is advisable to put some kind of coat on it, as its short hair will make it prone to shaking and therefore physical discomfort. As it is a very active dog, we must make sure to offer it long and complete walks, including physical exercise, if it is a dog. Bull terriers tend to overeat if given the opportunity, so we must find out about the correct type of food that we are going to give it, always of high quality. Remember that A good feed not only reflects on the happiness of the dog, but also on its health coat and well being, preventing it from suffering from obesity. It is common for bull terriers to bite everything they come across, be it our hands, furniture or household objects. So from a young age, we will teach them how to bite using different chew toys and toys until we find the perfect one for them. The Kongro, being very resistant, is perfect for their powerful jaw. The next step in the education of the bull terrier will be to begin with the socialization of the puppy, a process in which we must teach him to relate to other dogs, people and objects. This step is essential for us to enjoy a sociable adult dog in the future. Once all of the above has been achieved, we will begin with the training. To do this, we dedicate about 10 or 15 minutes a day to practicing basic commands such as come here to sit or stay, essential for his safety. Throughout this process, we will always use positive reinforcement to maintain optimal health. It is essential for our English bull terrier to visit the vet regularly, follow his vaccination schedule correctly and deworm him externally and internally. The most common diseases that can affect our English bull terrier are deafness, kidney and heart problems and skin diseases. However, if you follow our advice as always, you will be able to enjoy a healthy and happy dog between 11 and 14 years old. And that's it for our video.
