Catnip en GATOS ¿Que efectos tiene? 🙀🌿 | ¿Servirá para tu gato?

This is a YouTube video titled "Catnip en GATOS ¿Que efectos tiene? 🙀🌿 | ¿Servirá para tu gato?" created on March 6, 2019. The content features a discussion primarily between two speakers, Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, and Cynthia, about the effects of catnip on cats. They cover topics such as the plant's impact on cat behavior, safety, potential addiction, and practical advice for cat owners. The video is educational and aimed at pet owners interested in understanding catnip's benefits and risks.
Today I'm going to talk to you about CAD drugs. Is it dangerous for their health? Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Well, yes, the first thing was a bit of clickbait, but it was to get your attention on the topic we're going to discuss today. Although I don't think I need to get your attention too much because it's something you ask me a lot about on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. Doctor, what do you think about this herb? Do you think it's really beneficial? Would you recommend it? Carlos, what do you think about catnip and why do they call it catnip? Is it really a drug? Is it addictive? Is it really as harmless as they say? What would be its correct use? As you can see, there are many questions that come up every time we talk about catnip, and it's true that I use it quite a bit as advice in some of our videos. Catnip is a plant that causes cats to behave in a rather strange way. That's because it contains a substance called nipodalactone. This substance causes cats to behave a little differently.
It comes in two varieties. You can find it in a fresh version and a dried version. The fresh version is the green plant. In these videos we're using the dried plant. It's like a spice jar or oregano. It's possible that the substance, the nipetalactone in the dried version is a little less present because it's a volatile substance. So the fresh plant tends to be more effective on cats than the dried plant. The truth is that not all cats react the same way. And because it comes from a plant, there are some cats that it doesn't do anything to at all. There's some controversy and you're not sure how to use it, if it's going to affect your cat or if it's going to be beneficial or harmful to it. So today I've set out to answer all of these questions and a few more that you may have in mind about whether or not you should use catnip or catnip with your cats. In the comments on the videos, you ask me why my cat gets upset with Valyrian tea and why they call it catnip. I think I understand from your question that you're relating valerian to catnip. Catnip or catnip is something completely different from valerian. And be careful, because many of you tell me that valerian makes your cats upset. Please don't give them valerian because you don't know what effect it's going to have on them.
Okay, and the question. Okay, and the question of why it's called catnip? Well, I think it's obvious and it's because it's been observed for a long time that this plant has a certain effect on cats and that cats that use it behave in a somewhat peculiar way. In another comment, you ask me, is it good? Is it really a drug? Does it create addiction? Is it really as harmless as they say? Or what would be its correct use regarding the question of whether it is good or worthless? Well, as. As I always say, it will depend a lot on the effect that the plant has on your cat. Because it is very important to keep in mind that catnip does not affect all cats in the same way. And there are some cats in which this plant causes a certain relaxation, even hyper salivation and excessive drooling. And there are other cats that become euphoric and try to hunt even small animals that are in front of them and that do not really exist because they are the ones imagining them.
In other words, it is like a drug.
Like a drug. But. But it is not known whether or not an addiction is created by its use. There is some controversy about whether the Catmi plant is addictive in cats because when it behaves in this peculiar way, people may think that it is a psychotropic substance. I personally think that it does not create addiction because cats normally, after experiencing the effects of catnip, will not have the plant for at least a few hours. And I do not see that cats systematically want to access the plant to experience the same effects it produced the first time. However, there are other people who think that the plant can create a certain addiction. But the truth is that I have not found anything published on this subject. And in the end it all ends up being based on personal perceptions of some and others.
On the other hand, depending on the age of your cat, you may not see any results. For example, it is known that cats under three months old do not experience any type of effect. However, in the case of adult cats, approximately 33% experience some type of sensation in front of the cat, either relaxation or excitement. But as you can see, these are two completely antagonistic types of sensations. Therefore, there is the option that catnip does absolutely nothing to your cat. And there is also the option that you want to relax your cat with catnip. And in the end what you do is make it much more agitated. So now you Are starting to understand a little why it is such a controversial topic, because you can't know exactly what a cat is going to respond to the plant. For example, Totoro has not reacted at all to catnip, and, well, he basically didn't care about the toy, and in fact, when it was placed in front of him, he hides and runs away. If you notice, Meeloo is somewhat interested and nibbles on the toy. He may even get to a point where he takes it to a more collected part to have a little more control over the toy and play with it a little longer. But he has not shown any type of relaxed or different behavior from what could be normal in this case. Kimmy has been the one who has reacted the most to catnip, and as you can see, she became very relaxed and affectionate after being with the toy. So, as you can see, a cat's reaction is completely unpredictable. We hope you tell us about your cat's reaction in the comments. Therefore, when you ask me what the correct way to use it would be, the answer is very simple. Never leave your cat alone with the plant the first time you put it in front of them because you won't know how they'll react to it. In addition to this, when you put catnip in front of your cat for the first time, you should use a very small amount, perhaps a twig if you have the green plant or perhaps a little bit of the dried catnip that comes in bags and toys that you can buy for cats. This way you'll be able to observe how your cat behaves with a smaller dose and also with much more control on your part. As you can see, Cynthia is preparing a catnip toy for Totoro Yakami. You don't need to spend a lot of money because although there are commercially available ones, look. We have simply chosen a small glove that, as you can see, is made of thread so that the substance can breathe and the cats can smell it. I have filled it with the plant and have given it a small dot on top so that it does not come off and allows the cats to enjoy it when, for example, they are going to travel, or you put it in a carrier, etc. Well, that's all you need to know about the safety of using cni, which, as I said, does not seem to have any effect on their health, but their behavior may be altered for a while. And when it comes to the question of how I recommend its use, the answer will always depend on how the cat reacts on the one hand and on what you want to use it for on the other. Catnip can be used to make your cat much more interested in certain things that you are interested in, such as its scratching post. Catnip can be a great ally if you see that your cat is scratching your furniture a lot, as I mentioned in a previous video, you can use it to float the new scratching post you bought them, which will attract their attention a little more and encourage them to come closer and sniff it and also mark it with their nails. If you want to know more tips to prevent your cat from scratching your furniture, remember to watch this video that I'll leave for you here, here. And in addition to making your cat much more interested in some object in your home, you can also use catnip to relax your cats. Of course, as long as that's the effect the plant has on them. You can use it, for example, when you're going to move house and a lot of people are going to see you, for example, at a party, some friends are coming to visit you, or even if they're coming to assemble the kitchen furniture. As you know, all that traffic stresses cats a lot. And what we want in any situation is for your cat to be much more relaxed to prevent stress from taking its toll. Therefore, if you see that your cat relaxes with catnipah, you can always use it at these times. And also, for example, when you take your cat to the vet, in the carrier, you can put a toy containing catnipah inside, which will make the journey much calmer, both in the car and on the street.
But this would not be the same as using feline facial pheromones. No, it is not exactly the same, because synthetic feline facial pheromones do not make your cat have a slightly altered state of consciousness, but rather they simply perceive the environment as a safer one. Cnip, on the other hand, makes your cat more relaxed, but because its state of consciousness is altered, it is not the same.
And what would be better, they can be used in combination, therefore it is as harmless as they say. Well, look, CNIP has not really been proven to have any type of harmful effect on your cat's health, nor is it toxic to its kidneys or liver. Well, obviously if your cat eats 3kg of catnip, it might have a little diarrhea afterwards, but it's the same as if it ate any non toxic plant that's in your house. So in terms of its safety, you can be sure of that catnip is not A plant that can be dangerous for your cat. The only thing, as I've told you, is that you should always be aware of the effect it can have on them. So with all this, do I recommend it or not? Well, look, it depends. If catnip has no effect on your cat, well, it doesn't make any sense to use it. But if the herb has some kind of relaxing effect on your cat, as I've said, it can be very beneficial for very stressful environments regarding excitement. Well, if you see that your cat gets very excited with the plant, it doesn't make any sense to use it because after all, it's not giving it any benefit. Therefore, in those cases, I do not recommend that you have a CNIF plant in your home. So it will depend on you because at the end of the day, what many people do is that if they see that their cat gets excited with the plant, they put it there for fun. But for personal fun, because we do not know if the cat is really enjoying that experience. In those cases, I recommend that you do not use it because your cat is not there to entertain you. Right. You have a four legged jester. Let's go. Well, I think that's all. I hope I have answered all your questions. I have collected some of the most significant ones that I have found on our social networks. But of course, if you have any questions that you have to ask me about catnip and that are not answered in the video, you can leave them below in the comments and I will be happy to answer them. Well, who knows, maybe on Instagram, which if you don't follow us, I'll take this opportunity to tell you that we recently opened it and we upload a lot of stories with a lot of content that I think you might be interested in. And with this. And a cake.
Oh, cake. Yes, yes please. I want cake for a snack. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and subscribe to the channel. If you haven't already, you'll feel as excited as if you were in front of a CNI place plant. Remember to hit the bell so that YouTube will notify you every time we upload new content. And I don't know what else. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and I'll see you in the next video.
And all that's missing is the Ryan Bingo.
And continuing with the section, I have a letter for you. Jose, look what they left you. This video instead of helping is just watching an idiot making jokes. That's me and the other idiot talking behind the camera.
Come on. Okay. Do you notice? No, man, I can tell. Whoever it is, he's taking my spaceship apart. I don't remember what he's saying anymore. Okay. Okay. Yeah. No, because not all cats react the same. Okay, okay. Okay.
And the cats come to her. You have to. Okay. In addition to this. What? You have to have. Okay. The answer. Okay. No, wait. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Uh, with this and cake this morning, right? I say, oh, yes, yes, cake. You tell me. I say, oh, yes, yes, cake.
Please let me focus on your face. And with this, there's a cake. How disgusting. Really? Yeah. Oh, that's all.
