Cómo curar las heridas de las PATAS y las ALMOHADILLAS de tu PERRO 🐕👨⚕️💉

Veterinarian Carlos shows how to clean, treat, and bandage dog paw wounds. The video demonstrates antiseptic application and protective wrapping techniques using dogs named Rokio, Nika, and Samba to prevent infection and help paws heal.
If you're one of the four people watching this video, thank you in advance because we're finally going to talk about a dog topic and it's an important topic. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian in small animals. Welcome to my home. Well, and to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Our dog's paws seem to be bomb proof, but there are times when, well, because they act a bit rough and all that, they can get hurt, especially on the pads. Today we're going to see how you can treat your dog when they've already injured their paw and also how to prevent them from getting hurt on their pads. The paws are a bit of a tricky area for your dog to get injured because they're very mobile. They're not an area that we can keep immobilized for long because your dog needs them to move around and to walk around the street, your house and wherever. In addition to that, there's a little less skin on the paw than on the rest of the body. Plus the skin is also much thinner. It's harder for your vet to stitch properly if the wound is a bit larger or even to gradually heal it. But that's also because they have that area very close at hand, or rather, they have it in their mouths. All of these factors can make wounds on paws very complicated. Why not? And let's break this myth that it's not good for your dog to lick its wounds. It only complicates healing. If you're unlucky enough to get a minor wound while out walking with your dog, you can treat it at home without any problems. For that, you'll always need basic wound dressings like the ones we have for ourselves. The best thing to use for washing wounds is always saline solution because it's a sterile liquid that you can use on the wound without any problems. You'll also need gauze. Don't buy cotton because cotton leaves fibers on the wound and that can end up complicating it. I also recommend that you have syringes for this type of treatment. It is also a good idea to have an antiseptic, such as in this case, po bona, the well known Betalin. First of all, if your dog gets a wound and bleeds profusely, you need to stop the bleeding. If you are not able to stop the bleeding in the first few minutes, please do not bother at home. In that case, do not waste any time and rush to the doctor's office. Seriously, don't. To stop the bleeding, what you will need to do is Apply pressure to the wound with gauze. If by applying light pressure for about two or three minutes, you see that the bleeding is subsiding, then you can start treating it yourself at home. To show you how to properly treat a leg wound, today we have Rokio and Nika, who has volunteered to be Nika. And also in this case, Rokio not only has Nika with a leg wound, but Samba is also recovering from his injuries. Somba was a little greyhound rescued from the street after she had been run over, but fortunately she has been cured and hasn't had any problems. By the way, Samba, this beautiful greyhound, is looking for a family. Right now she is living with Ruocchio temporarily because she is being fostered until she finds a permanent family. She is up for adoption by the Associacione. Adopt a Mystesas de Sevilla. I will put the details in the description box below so that you can get in touch with them. If you can't adopt her, as I always tell you, share this video Share this information she is a very, very good dog who gets along very well with both dogs and cats. Okay, well, if your dog has an injury, what you have to do is what Rokio is doing right now. You have to fill the syringe with saline solution and pour the saline solution on the wound. You will be able to regulate the pressure with which you apply the saline solution with the syringe. At first, if the wound has just been created, you will need to apply a little more pressure with the serum so that it removes all the dirt. Then in the following days, as it continues healing, you do not need to apply it with as much pressure, simply to moisten the wound and help clean some of the debris that has accumulated on it. Once you have washed the wound several times the first day, then in the following days you will not have to wash it as much, so you can then apply the antiseptic. In this case, I always recommend, and it is important, I would appreciate it if you listen to me, that you apply the antiseptic diluted with a little serum. If you are going to apply, for example, the typical Betadine, you will have to dilute it by about 50% with serum so that it is not so aggressive and does not end up burning the wound. Your vet may use it, but we use it with knowledge and a level head, which is why I don't usually recommend it at home. Okay, now you've treated it and now you might think, well, I have to cover it. I have to put a band aid, a Plaster, a dressing, something. Well, in these cases, I never recommend that you put anything on the wound, on the skin. And in many parts of, well, the world in general, there are types of bacteria called anaerobes. This type of bacteria loves to grow in places with little oxygen. If you cover the wound, all that will do is complicate healing, and in the end, everything will be much slower and it may even become infected. So if you don't cover it, because I recommend that you don't, how can we prevent your dog from licking the wound? Well, in these cases, most of the time or on many occasions, you're going to have to be very careful. And if you can't avoid it in any way, or you spend a lot of time away from home, or even when you go to bed and your dog is hanging around your house, what you have to do is put the Elizabethan collar on, because that's the best way to prevent it from ever getting into that area. If you don't know how to put the Elizabethan collar on, don't worry. We've thought of everything. I've already explained how to secure it to the dog's body so that it can hold on to the dog for as long as it needs to. I'll leave the video where I talked about this topic here. For wounds on the paw pads, I do recommend that you put some kind of bandage on them at least when you go to the park, precisely because there's a lot of dirt and dust in the park and that can end up getting into the wound and becoming a problem. But only in those cases when you're back home, I usually recommend that you remove the bandage so that the wound is exposed to the air and heals little by little. And one last thing I don't want to forget. There are some wounds that may seem like they're not very serious, because right now I'm talking to you about wounds that don't seem to be very complicated. However, there are wounds such as those that dogs get when they prick themselves with something in the park, which are what we call incision wounds, meaning that they go inward and it seems like, well, that nothing is wrong because it doesn't bleed much, the wound doesn't have much of an opening, meaning that the outside part isn't very open, and, well, we don't pay much attention to them. These types of wounds are very dangerous, very deep, and the upper part is very, very closed. These wounds are perhaps the most dangerous, not because the wound itself is more or less serious, but because at home they are usually given very little importance. And in the end, after a few days, you come to the doctor's office and a huge infection has formed. Bacteria grows, a kind of bag of pus forms inside the skin, precisely because the wound has become infected from the inside. In any case, and although I am recommending that you give your dog initial care for any wounds he may get at home, you should always go to the vet if you have any questions, if you have treated him and you see that the wound is not going well, if it becomes cold or a strange color, just to be sure, because even if it is a small wound, you want your vet to see it. In these cases, please always go to the vet's office so that they can take a look at the wound. Because sometimes these wounds may seem like nothing to us. And when we vets see them at the vet's office, we may say, oh, my goodness, why didn't you bring him here sooner? Yes, I'm going to start talking about the pads. But then what happens if you live with a dog that is a bit rough, like Nika, who gets abrasions on her pads every now and then because, for example, Nika goes crazy when she is let out to play. How can you prevent which is the most important thing, any type of abrasion or injury to the pad? Well, we have a solution for these cases as well. Point number one, try to let them walk in areas that do less damage. For example, walking on the beach is a good idea if they already have a wound. In addition, this water can help them at times, because the iodine in the sea and other things can also help the wound heal faster. Sure. Well, they do let your dog do this. I can understand that there are some beaches where they can and where they can't, but there should at least be a little space where dogs can be calm. What do we do in places where we don't have a beach? Well, we can walk in the park, for example, in. In grassy areas, grass is not as aggressive as dirt. Point number two, what do we do in the summer? Look, in the summer, I always recommend that your canine companion never walk on asphalt because they will burn their paws. What should you do in these cases? Because you're going to tell me, well, I'm not going to carry the dog to the park. Well, to prevent that from happening, try to choose routes that go through the shade so that your dog isn't constantly stepping on a very, very hot area. And point number three, protect his paws. We have several methods. There are some types of varnish that can be purchased in specialty pet supply stores, that can be sprayed on top of the pad. They have a little brush, and that little brush allows you to apply the varnish evenly so that the pad becomes more resistant after you apply it. You have to be a little careful, a little aware that your dog doesn't get into trouble. No, don't touch it. Okay? Okay. And now I'm here saying it and it comes to mind, all the comments are going to come to me, asking me to tell them the name of the product. I won't tell you the name of the product, not for any reason, but because in my country it may be one, in yours it may be completely different, or it may not even exist. I don't know. And also because you know that I don't like recommending medicines or products of this type on the Internet. Also because I can't because of the law. Anyway, for that, it's always better to go to the vet and ask them and have them show you how it's done. And the second part of the protection, there are also some photos that you can post to go to the park. It's very likely that your canine companion won't like them. Like Nika, who, when they put it on, the poor thing starts to shake. Not for any reason, but I don't know, I think it's because she associates it with the moment of the treatments. And since she's had such a bad time, that's why she feels a little respect for them. But it's possible that your dog does get along well with them. Try them, because those types of boots will protect your dog a lot. And there are dogs that can run around the park without any problems and that will protect their entire paw a little bit. Oh, poor thing. Yes, that's it for today's video.
If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone, with everyone who has dogs. Because that way, the more people watch dog videos, the more we'll be encouraged to make dog videos. And it doesn't have to be three months before the next one comes out. Subscribe to the channel using the button below and also click the bell. So YouTube will notify you every time we upload new content so you don't miss anything. We also have a secondary channel called Questions and Answers from a veterinarian where. Oh, surprise. The dog videos are also the least viewed. And thanks also to Rokio and Nika, because Nika is always so pretty and cute. Morelli says hello from Puerto Rico. Today she introduces Us to her three month old, Logan, who is the darling of the house. And Clara introduces us to her two loves, Luna and Slot. I don't know how to pronounce this. She says that they rescued them from the street and that they even gave Slot a bottle. Doris introduces us to Noobi. She says after going to the vet. Please, Noobi is not stressed at all after going to the vet. She probably loves her vet. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and I'll see you in the next video. Well, let's get to the point. We already know what this section is about. It looks really blurry. I couldn't see so blurry before.
Huh? Ma', am, put on your glasses. Oh, how cute. Look, Jose is my biggest hater and my biggest spoiler. Well, in the world in general, he's always in quotes. Well, not without quotes. Well, whatever. On the sidelines. Okay. And so Jose, don't get ahead of yourself because that's coming up later and I'm going to explain why. Jose, tell me. Here we are. Good for everything. The truth is that Rokio is an interesting person because she always has something good to say, something interesting to tell. You have earned heaven, for example, in grassy areas, in areas of sespi. Yes, but I can put it in now. Well, okay, I'll let you delete it. Forget about this point. Point number one. This the real one and. Okay. And right now you could be telling me, well, okay, that's for where you live, where there's a beach. No, there's no beach in Seville. 40gr in Seville, if you're lucky. And that's it. Don't tell me I haven't taught you how to teach him. Right? Because I mean prevention and that's it. Don't tell me I haven't taught you how to give him a foot care. We're almost done. If you support us a lot and a lot of people watch this video, which we highly doubt. If many of you watch these types of videos where we talk about specific dog problems, we will continue making more videos about dogs because we like them too. Okay? And that's it, right? Well, I don't know how many points that is. We have to get these messages out on the Internet that cats adore us, otherwise they won't come to visit us because paws are one of those things that works for us. Let's see if we can rescue the dog loving public a little bit because we've lost them.
