¿Cómo elegir un segundo gato en casa? | Educador de Gats

Jordi Faraze, a cat educator, explains how to choose a second cat for your home. Pick based on personality and play style, not looks. A compatible match prevents conflict and stress between cats.
Hi, I'm Jordi Faraze, also known as the cat educator. Today I'm going to tell you the best way to choose a good profile for the cat we already have in order to choose a good profile for the cat we already have. Just generally, and it doesn't mean that it's a rule, but generally they will be cats of the same sex. Males with males, females with females. Although we can perfectly have males and females, above all we have to find a cat that is very similar in personality to ours. And by character I mean above all, the desire to play and the ways of playing. The desire, the hours that our cat intends to play, which are sometimes more or less, and the way in which our cat expresses itself when playing. Generally, if I have a young male who is very rough, very brutal, and wants to bite and scratch, it would be best to bring him a very similar cat, another male who is just as rough as him. Males are usually very warlike, and females are more like princesses. Females are more into tag and hide and seek, while males are more into fighting and war. Fighting and war. This also comes from their nature, that cats, sooner or later are going to have to fight and struggle to impregnate females. These are street cats, not our cats. But it is intrinsic in our cats, especially males, to want to fight, although females also like to fight. Therefore, I am going to go to a place where there are cats, and instead of being the one who chooses the cat, what I will do is describe my cat, especially its way of playing to the shelter or to the place where it goes, so that they tell me profiles very similar to the ones I already have. And that is where I will choose, perhaps among the three or four options that they give me. From there I will get my cat. But above all it is important, especially with cats that are very rough when playing, that we bring them another very rough cat. If we have a much calmer cat, we will bring another, more relaxed cat as well. With cats that are three, four, five years old, we still have time to bring in a kitten. A kitten that is a little devil that never stops and needs other young cats that keep it going. Sometimes with a cat that is 8, 9, 10 and more years old, a kitten is more of a problem than a solution, since the little one is going to demand a lot of play at many times of the day, and that older cat may not feel like playing as much anymore. It is true that a kitten is very easy to introduce, but perhaps not with all cats, especially with older ones or very calm cats. Oh yes, it is good for a kitten to be introduced with a young male because that way too. Or with a female that is a bit rough, because that way they also grow up together. And that is how the story goes. Hem. If this is not possible, we may have a kitten that will ruin our life with another cat, not necessarily an old one, but one that is much gentler, much more relaxed, and whose ways of playing are not so much fighting, biting and chasing, but perhaps other ways of doing it. Therefore, calm and relaxed cats. With calm and relaxed cats it does not matter if they are male or female. And when we have very rough cats, a young male will usually be the ideal companion, although they will always explain to us at the shelter or protector where we go which characters will be more compatible. Remember, do not choose a cat based on its appearance, but rather based on the needs you have at home. Once again from catchuary for animal experts. See you next time.
