The content features an animal expert named Sam explaining in Spanish how to train a puppy to use a toilet pad, covering routines, behavioral signs, positive reinforcement, and cleaning tips for effective puppy training.
In this video by an animal expert, we explain how to teach a puppy to use the toilet on the pad. Pay attention and take notes. Establish routines and observe their language. Maintaining stable daily routines will help your dog adapt more easily to the home as routines provide predictability to the environment. Establishing meal, play, or rest times can help you figure out when your puppy is going to need to relieve himself and anticipate this moment. Some signs that can help you predict when your puppy is going to feel the need to urinate or defecate are the following. He has just woken up from a long nap. It has been about 20 minutes since his last meal. He has just had an intense play session. He is restless and walks quickly around the house. He starts pacing around, sniffing the floor. When you observe any of these behaviors, it is time to redirect the puppy to the pad area and keep him close until he finally relieves himself. It does not matter if at first he makes a mistake and does it right outside the pad. The important thing is to teach him where to go. Little by little, we will refine the exercise and teach him not to leave the pad. Use positive reinforcement and avoid punishment. Once the puppy has associated the pads with the bathroom area, we must ensure that he always goes to this place to relieve himself and that he does so inside the pad and not just near it. Every time the puppy approaches the pad and relieves himself there, we will first wait until he is completely finished and then we will give him lots of social reinforcements such as praise, petting and games. If we want, we can also give him a small piece of food. We must reinforce him even if he does not get it right and goes to the pad because he has gone to the designated area correctly to do this. With patience, we can begin to reinforce more intensely only those occasions in which he relieves himself inside the pad without leaving. We should never punish, hit, or yell at a puppy for relieving himself outside the pad. A puppy will not learn anything good through punishment and intimidation, and the only thing we will achieve is that it gets scared, becomes afraid of us, takes longer to learn, or even starts to perform unwanted behaviors to avoid punishment. Discover other things that a puppy needs in addition to training. Pads in the video on the card. Eliminate odors in the rest of the house. When the dog defecates on the floor in one area of the house, it leaves an olfactory signal that invites it to return to that same place next time. To avoid this, we must clean the house very well. Every time the puppy does its business where it shouldn't using enzymatic products or products that contain active oxygen. Other products such as bleach or ammonia are not capable of completely eliminating these odors and encourage the dog urinate again even more. Sometimes the puppy may prefer to urinate on objects that smell the most like us. This is again a response to an olfactory stimulus and we should not punish our puppy for it as it is a natural behavior and we should train him to modify it and offer him alternatives instead of scolding him and causing confusion. The puppy can take from a few days to two or three weeks to relieve himself on the pad. Therefore, we must be patient, understanding and consistent. When should we remove the pad from a puppy? Once we have taught the puppy to relieve himself on the pad and he always goes to them, we can begin to remove some. This is usually done when the puppy starts going outside in order to begin a transition training from peeing and pooping on the pad to doing so outside. Here above is a video in which we explain how to teach a puppy to relieve himself outside for a while. The puppy will relieve himself outside, but he will continue to use the pad that we have left at home. When the tendency to do their business while walking is greater than doing it in the house, we will completely remove all the pads and only reinforce the behavior of urinating and defecating outside. If you want to continue learning about the care and training of a puppy, don't miss the playlist that we have left for you here on the side. Tell us, have you just adopted a puppy? Until next time, experts Sam.
