¿Cómo ganarte la CONFIANZA de tu GATO? 😼 ¡Haz esto!

This is a YouTube video titled "¿Cómo ganarte la CONFIANZA de tu GATO? 😼 ¡Haz esto!" created in July 2018, featuring Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, and Rokio, a volunteer from an animal adoption association. The video provides detailed advice on how to build trust with newly adopted kittens, Jackie and Soba, including tips on handling their behavior, creating a cat-friendly environment, and integrating them with other pets. The content is educational and aimed at pet owners or potential adopters, emphasizing patience and positive reinforcement.
They are two siblings named Jackie and Soba, and I love them just like the dish. This way they will see you as much more approachable. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. When you adopt a kitten, everything is changing, both for you and for them. That's why it's very important that you establish a strong bond of trust between the two of you as soon as possible. As we've told you many times on the channel, cats have an unfair reputation for being unaffectionate and elusive with their families. But the truth is that although at first they may have a hard time letting you pet them or show them around their new home, over time you'll be able to establish a complete relationship of trust with them that will last you a lifetime. This week we're going to introduce you to Jackie and Soba, who are looking for a family with the Association Adoptamistes and who currently live in a foster home. This week we went to meet them and they are really cute because they are about two months old and are at the ideal age to find a home. They are two brothers called Jacky and Soba, and I love them. Jacky is a blonde male kitten, as you can see, and he is the most fearless of the two. And his sister Soba is this little gray tiger who has really won our hearts. Ruocchio is the volunteer from the association for Adopting Mixed Breeds who has taken them in and given them a temporary home so that these little ones can grow up until they find a permanent home. At first, the truth is that the one we had the hardest time getting close to was Jackie, because his sister Soga is a little more trusting, and she immediately came over to smell us and see that we were bringing her home again. But anyway, in the end, we also managed to win Jackie over. And now I'm going to explain how we did it. If you want to know more about them, remember that they are up for adoption by the Associacionadopta Mestizas de Sevilla. We have left all the information so that you can contact them below in the description box. After watching the video, you will surely fall in love with them and want them to live with you. But above all, what you do have to keep in mind is that if you have adopted an animal that comes from the street, a kitten that may have even suffered abuse, it is normal for them to be distrustful of humans. Therefore, you. You have to be very patient and not despair. I recommend that before you adopt the Cat. The first thing you should do is learn a little about its history, find out where it comes from, or ask the shelter about its normal habits, because that will help you get to know it better and empathize with it more. Well, once you get to know it, you know its history and you have even brought it to your home. It turns out that it is a little distrustful. What should you do to overcome this distrust? Always go slowly. You have to keep in mind that cats are not as trusting as dogs and that at first any type of change can be stressful for them. For this reason, you have to keep in mind that your little one may be somewhat evasive in the first few days, and that is why you have to give them places to hide. For example, when they arrive at your house on the first day with the carrier, leave the door open and let them gradually want to come out. If they take a little longer, do not worry because it is normal for them to want a place where they feel safer. And the carrier is an ideal place because it is covered and there is nothing that can come up from behind to attack them. As you can see, Yaqui was a little more reluctant than her sister Soba, although in the end she ended up coming out and apparently she found the back door very interesting to play with. Because of you, it is completely normal for a cat that has just arrived home or a cat that is very scared to look for a hiding place. As you can see, they already felt a little insecure and resorted to hiding behind an oven that was on the floor. Right now they are hiding because they are intimidated by our presence. If you notice that they do this when they first arrive at your home, you should not try to force them out of their hiding place because that will only increase their distrust of the new environment. When they feel a little more secure and confident, they will come out or go out to eat and will not hide again quickly. That is the moment when you have to see that they are starting to gain confidence in their surroundings and feel more secure in your home. If you notice, we have lowered our voices a little to prevent excessive noise from stressing them out. That is one of the first things you have to do in your home. Avoid too much noise and movement around them. That could make the environment uncomfortable for them ASMR style or right now, I am going to talk to you, kitty. At first, it is very likely that they may do things that you dislike, such as scratching your furniture or pooping outside their litter box. If this happens, the first thing you have to do is take a deep breath, take a little time, and remember that they have just arrived in a place that they are not familiar with and that they find strange. And if they are also very small animals, they have to learn how to behave. What you have to do is redirect them to another place or try to put into practice the advice that I have already given you on several occasions about these behaviors, such as, for example, in the case of scratching the furniture, try putting a scratching post nearby so that little by little, they associate the scratching post with the place where they have to mark with their nails. Or try changing the litter box or putting different litter boxes in the house to see if they like that area to poop more than the area you had set up. Well, in any case, make sure many things can happen that you dislike. What I never recommend you do, because it can also be counterproductive to helping the cat adapt, is that you resort to punishment or yelling at it, or giving it an order in a loud voice. This will only make your cat feel insecure in your presence, and when it sees you, it will associate you with something negative and will immediately hide. Instead of all this, what you have to do is always reinforce its positive behaviors. Therefore, repeat this mantra after practice. Assertiveness and never aggressiveness. Create the ideal environment for a cat to live in, or cat friendly, as we veterinarians usually call it. The days before your cat arrives home, what you have to do is dedicate yourself to arranging the house the way cats like it, which we have already explained on the channel. That is, on the one hand, the rest area, on the other hand the grooming and hygiene area, and on the other hand, the play area. If you also want to give yourself a little help, you can use synthetic feline facial pheromones, which we've talked about in a bunch of cat videos, because they make cats feel much more secure. These pheromones can be placed as a diffuser on the wall, or they also come in spray form like I'm showing you right now. You can apply a little to your hands just before touching them and let them smell it little by little so that they gain confidence and approach M. Yocchi and Soba. Although the truth is that they ignore me a little for the first few moments. When your cat arrives home, you have to put everything they need in a small room. That way they won't feel overwhelmed by such a large space. Look how well Rokio has done here. She has put everything cats need in a small space in her house. Once your cat has mastered the small space, it will be the right time to start going out into the rest of the house. Always reinforce your presence with positive stimuli. The most important thing is that your new cat associates good things with your arrival. For this reason, you need to reinforce the moments you spend with him. At first, I recommend that you only use small treats that you throw at him from a distance so that he eats and wants to get closer to you. Don't force physical contact at this point. If the cat doesn't want to come near you or ask you to pet him. Once you get your little one to break down the spatial barrier between you and he comes to you to ask for food, for example, what you need to do is pet him a little or try to spend some time playing with him. Eventually you you'll get your cat to associate you with a good time and demand your attention as soon as you walk through the door. We won Jacky over with his stomach. I offered him the food he likes the most, and he ended up coming to me. What I never do is give her all the food all at once, because that will overwhelm her and she won't think that I'm the one giving it to her. With Soba, since she was more active at first, I decided to win her over with the game. So I got a toy that she really likes, which is this stick that has very colorful feathers on the end, and I started playing with her from a distance. Sticks allow you to play from a distance so you're not too intrusive, and you give them time to gain confidence. Always let them make the first move. You should never be defiant or intimidating in front of the cat. And the best advice I can give you about this is not to look them directly in the eyes, because cats interpret this as a sign of defiance. And if you want to make sure your little ones don't see you as a threat, you have to try to get down to their level and if necessary, get down on the ground like I did. This way they will see you as much more approachable, and it will encourage them to come closer to you. The first thing that caught their attention was my slippers. They went there to smell them and paw at them. At that point, you can give them a treat or play with them. At that point, I can tell you that we were already friends. Jackie, Soba and Carlos, best friends forever. Once you see that your cat has started to approach you, that's when you can start petting him. Don't pick him up at first. If he doesn't want to, because that could also lead to a fight where he could scratch you and make him understand that you're forcing him to do something he doesn't feel like doing at that moment. The areas where I recommend that you start petting your cat are around the head, behind the ears or under the chin, because that's where the glands that produce feline facial pheromones are located, which are like the synthetic ones I mentioned, which make them feel calm and with which they mark the different areas of their home. You give it to them here, let them nudge you little by little with their little heads, and those pheromones start to permeate your hands too. And above all, when you're petting them, you have to remember that sometimes cats react a bit violently when they're overwhelmed by these pettings and displays of affection. And they may even bite you. If that's the case. And if you remember what we told you in the video about why your cat bites you, what you have to do is stop petting them at that moment and remove your hands so that they stop biting you. But Yi Soba also arrived at Rosio's home, where two dogs, Nika and Ander, also live. We met Naa at the event, were no longer afraid of hunting dogs. She's a rescue dog that Rokio fell in love with and came to live with her. And if you remember that video, I didn't have any trouble gaining their trust with her. The other member of the family is Sander, a puppy that they also rescued and who was found with a broken leg less than a month ago. He had surgery to fix the problem and is currently recovering from the procedure. And for those who think that a cat can't get along with even if the cat has never seen a dog before or comes home very scared from the street, Jackie and Soga are examples. Rokio, who is a volunteer for an association, is an expert in integrating animals, has managed to get Jackie and Tsuba to get along very well with their canine companions. To do this, she has put a wooden fence on the door that connects the area where the cats are to the rest of the house so that the cats can fit through but the dogs cannot. In this way, the little kittens have a refuge area where they can feel comfortable without the presence of dogs and which allows them to have contact with Nika and Ander, who are their canine companions. But this contact is also limited in only as much as the cats want, although that does not mean that at certain times of the day they spend a lot of time together and may even sleep with them in the dogs beds. As you can see, the myth that a dog cannot get along with a cat is once again shown to be completely false. Well, it is impossible not to get along with Mika. Although cats may be skittish and sometimes evasive, this does not mean that they do not appreciate or love you. You just have to understand that a cat is not a small dog and that they have a different temperament. It is clear that they need a little patience and perseverance. But I'm sure that you will achieve it. Of course, because they are used to dogs. Sit down. Because dogs are like cats. The cat says sit down and the cat says okay, tell me about it tomorrow. I've never seen a cat that listens.
To Cats don't do tricks. They can come to understand that certain things aren't done here, or that things aren't done here, or that the cat shouldn't get on the couch or whatever. On the channel we have many videos where I talk to you about feline behavior and what you need to do with them so that everything goes well between you. But the most important thing is that a strong bond is created between you and that your cat trusts you so that everything will be much easier for you to live together. If you put into practice these tips that I just gave you, they will work for you as they have with Jackie and Soba and and you'll see how your cat adapts to your home much sooner than you think. Before finishing the video, I want to remind you that Jackie and Soba are looking for a permanent home. They are two very affectionate little ones who can adapt perfectly to living in any family and who will surely give you many good times. If they have stolen your heart and you want to adopt them, you can contact Adoptum Mestizas, which is the association where they are located. We leave all the information below in the description box. And if you cannot adopt them because you do not have space or time, can but you know someone who is interested send them this video so they know that these two little ones are looking for a family. Let's see if between all of us we can find them a family. And that's it for today's video. We want to thank Rokio for allowing us to meet Jackie Soba and for letting us share her story to see if they find a home. Remember to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. And hit the bell so that YouTube will notify you when we upload a new video. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And we'll see. See you in the next video. Hello.
